![]() mangalore, rogue with a splash of divine capability sounds great, and would make the party pretty well balanced it seems. I have no problem with a tiefling PC, if you'd like to go that route. Larry, I'm presuming your cleric would be able to play nice with others (probably moreso than the typical Groetus-worshipper) so long as he saw their presence as helping to further his agenda. Am I close? All, do keep in mind that there is a teensy chance that things may veer in a somewhat unexpected direction once you arrive in Carrion Hill, so don't overthink the motives for going there too much! :D That said, mangalore's ideas are pretty cool, in my opinion. ![]()
![]() mangalore wrote: Was thinking, maybe we're mates of Me'mori's character, here in Carrion Hill looking for a way for him to avert his doom? I like that idea. It may also be beneficial to have everyone native to Ustalav, just from some part other than the county of Versex. For some more info/background on Ustalav, consider this article on the Pathfinder Wiki. It may be inspirational. Another possible background hook suggested by the module's author is that one or more of the PCs may have been sent to Carrion Hill seeking a sample of an unusual building material called Middenstone. Keep the ideas flowing, all! :) ![]()
![]() Looks like the gang's all here, great! @Joana: If there are any non-eccentric gnomes in Golarion, I haven't seen them. :) @Mangalore: In general, I'm amenable to material from the Campaign Guide, but not so much on the firearms. I think they might seem a bit out of place in this adventure, is all. @Luke: You can go ahead with your cleric of Groetus if you like. How do you think he would interact with the other party members? Magic items from Gods and Magic are likely fine. I don't own 'Seekers' so my familiarity with the ioun stone rules is limited (based mostly on memories of prior editions of the game). Can you provide more info on what you're looking at? @Me'mori: I like the concept for your Summoner a lot. We may be able to find a template to apply to his summoned creatures, but even if nothing seems suitable there, I'd have no problem with merely describing them as a bit more disturbing than the norm. @Vanulf: Keep in mind that Luke's cleric idea appears to be more of a melee character than a traditional healer type, so I'm not sure how well the divine caster is covered by that concept. That said, more fighting prowess is never a bad thing. Keep the thoughts coming, all! ![]()
![]() Hi all, Apologies for the delay, connectivity issues prevented me from using the internet last night. But, with no further ado, here are the players I've selected. Would the five of you be so kind as to check in at the OOC thread, to confirm your spot in the game? Vanulf Wolfson
Thanks to all of you for your interest, I'm sorry I had to turn down so many good players. I truly do think five players is about my limit though. If anyone of the above should bow out, I'll return here and ask for an alternate. Thanks again! Good Gaming,

![]() Welcome players! Let's get down to business shall we? We'll begin by discussing character concepts and backgrounds. I hope to make this a cohesive, cooperative process in which everyone participates, offering feedback and ideas, etc. If you want to begin work on statting up your PC, that's fine, but I won't even look at the numbers until description and background are complete. Some thoughts to keep in mind: The module's setup will work best if the party is newly arrived at Carrion Hill (in Ustalav) as an established group. They could be an adventuring company with a history, if you like, or simply a group of freelancers hired for a job (maybe the Pathfinder Society is investigating the suitability of the town for a new PF Lodge?). Your ideas are needed and welcome in this matter. For those who wish to work on statting up a sheet now, consider the following guidelines: -5th Level PCs
Time to head out for now. Looking forward to our discussion and the character creation process. Let's make it a great game! ![]()
![]() Announcement: The window of opportunity to be considered as a player in this game will be closing sooner rather than later! When I get home from work tonight (about 7PM EST), I'll begin to dig in and make the tough calls. Welcome and thanks to all of those who have chimed in so far. For my own ease of reference, here's a list in order of appearance: 1. Vanulf Wolfson
@thegreenteagamer: As for materials available, I'd prefer to stick mostly to core Pathfinder rules. That said, if there are some options from a third party source that you're just dying to use, I'd consider such (within reason...a feat here, a spell there). The classes from the Advanced Player's Guide are on the table too, but I'm not likely to want more than about two characters using classes from said book (just to lessen the learning curve). ![]()
![]() More hats in the ring, welcome Deepdweller and mangalore! @mangalore, my Dad had an old blue box basic rules set that first caught my eye, and I actually rolled up a few characters out of that book and had fun populating the rooms of the dungeon from 'In Search of the Unknown'. The first module I DM'd was Keep on the Borderlands, for some friends. Never looked back. :) ![]()
![]() Walk, if you will, the claustrophobic alleys of the Tangle, the middenstone vats of the Filth, and the cobbled white roads at the summit of an ancient hill. Know that this is but the latest of cities to crown this summit, a monument to the filth and grime and waste of civilization. The city was built upon the battlefields of history past, for many have sought to control this key feature, this lonely hill in a sea of mud and mire. Only its name has remained constant through the ages — Carrion Hill. Greetings all! I'm looking for five mature, dedicated players to have a go at the Pathfinder module Carrion Hill. I'm a 36 year old gamer who has been hooked on RPGs since the early 1980s, and I'm hoping to connect with some like-minded gamers in an engaging play by post adventure. Potential players should be able to post on something resembling a daily basis (excepting illness, emergency, vacation, and so forth). I'd like to be able to find players who will work at breathing life and personality into their PCs, taking full advantage of the written word as afforded by the pace of a message board game. Combats will be visualized by hosted map images (or maybe even a Google docs spreadsheet) with the intent to keep them fast-paced and exciting. Die rolls will be handled using the built-in message board roller, again, to help keep things moving along. I'll not likely simply accept the quickest five folks who chime in with interest. Instead, I'll have a look at some of your other posts 'round these parts to get a sense of your writing style and demeanor. Any other PBP experience you have will be particularly useful in this regard, but if you're a first timer, that's okay too. Just tell me a little something about yourself when you post. I'll hold off at least until tomorrow, just to let the Monday crowd have a look, and then I'll get around to the serious business of picking my players. It may go rather quickly, depending on the number of responses, so don't delay too long. PCs will be created at 5th level, but I'd prefer we not get too far into the creation process at this point. After player selection, we'll make it a cooperative effort between players and DM, to ensure party balance and cohesion. Still, if you have thoughts or questions about the matter, don't hesitate to ask. Finally, be aware that this module is really quite dark in tone, and is strongly inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Consider whether this type of module is your cup of tea before jumping in with both feet. Prospective players, I look forward to hearing from you! Good Gaming,
