Pig Familiars

Pathfinder Society

Scarab Sages

In the Society game, may a Wizard or Arcane Sorcerer choose a pig familiar (available to the witch)?

A wizard or arcane sorcerer may only select companions that are legally available for them.

Sovereign Court

Now if only we could get official stats for pigs, goats and the other familiars that aren't in the bestiary, we'd be set.

Oh, and Lone Wolf could put them into HeroLab, which they won't do until Paizo releases "official" stats for them.

I think there are plans to stat out the goat, pig & fox in the Bestiary 2 per the APG Final Playtest document. And I'd love to see some stats for the chicken too :)

Sadly, they don't seem to have made it into the book

No, but the fox and hedgehog will be in Ultimate Magic. And only Paizo staff know what other familiars they will add.

The Morganites still need official stats for their Dire Chickens!

It's okay.

They are not smart.
They need Handle Animal to make things go.

Pigs and goats aren't valid witch familiars as per the APG. The fox is a dog with the Young template.

It's what gentlemen of Cheliax call your most noble of Andoran women.

Frankly I can't understand having a familiar that is an obvious target..ie any familiar you can't keep in a belt pouch or pack

Some might say the choice of familiar depends on where you land on the roll-play vs role-play spectrum.

Bacon for the party if you get shipwrecked by a railroad?

What's wrong with spending 3gp for a pig 'familiar'?

If the enemy elects to target your 'familiar' instead of you then you've bought a cheap shield!

In another organized play campaign, I had a weasel familiar. That weasel did her fair share of helping out. She spent a lot of time on reconnaissance missions, conversing with the local fauna, and, with speed and stealth on her side, as a decent touch spell deliverer. She never got killed, either, despite the wishes of a number of killer DMs.

The toad-carriers were mighty jealous.

I don't understand why you would bother with a familiar if you are going to keep it in your pouch. The arcane bond is a better bet than a pocket familiar.

Finally I can use that farmer with a pig mini as a PC.

I use him all the time... one of my favorite WotC minis!

Witches don't get an arcane bond..and losing your familiar is much worse for us than for a wizard sweetie.

And pigs are tastier than spellbooks too.
