Gods & Magic

Product Discussion

Is this worth buying even if it's not using the PFRPG rules?

Is this mostly a fluff book or is there a lot of things I would need to adjust to the PFRPG rules?

Any PFRPG Gods & Magic revised edition planned?

Thanks

We don't have plans at this time to do a revision/reprint of this book. That said... it's pretty compatible with the current rules. The crunch is limited to spells and magic items and those transfer over quite well. There's also a LOT of flavor in the book too, especially for GMs or players who are interested in adding a lot of religion details to games or characters.

WOW, that was fast!

Thanks

ZOOOM!

The Gods are beyond mortal reach anyway. You can't fight them and they have no stats, so there is nothing specifically about them in that way that needs updating.

The book is very worth buying even if it was written pre-PFRPG.

While there are a few crunchy bits, such as new domains, new spells, and new items, the vast majority of the book is information on the deities and those who serve them.

Shadow Lodge

In my opinion, really the only things with the Pathfinder label on it that aren't worth buying are the Campaign Setting book and the Gazetteer, as the World Guide: Inner Sea Region will soon cover the majority of the same information.

Most of the Pathfinder books prior to PFRPG were relatively rules-light, as the good people at Paizo were either deciding what to do about WotC switching from 3.5e to 4e, or the PFRPG was already in development.

And really, 3.5e crunch is VERY transferable to PFRPG. You can use the Conversion Guide and common sense. Hell, you can just play it as-is and it will still work fine.

O.K maybe I am just missing it but I can not find Holy Symbols listed for the gods in the book, please advise.

The holy symbols are illustrated for each god on the even-numbered page of its writeup.

The holy symbols for the 20 major gods are illustrated in each god's writeup. Abadar's is a key, Asmodeus' is an inverted pentacle, and so on.

In general, for the minor deities, you see the holy symbols illustrated in that chapter, mentioned in the god's writeup, or can be inferred from the god's writeup (such as Alseta's smiling mask).

Or you can just go to the community use section and download this nifty package and have the symbols on your computer too.

Thank you for that link; those community use packages are awesome!

Agreed.

Personally I can't recommend Gods and Magic strong enough...this is one of my favorite rpg books of ALL TIME. All the gods explained, beautifully illustrated, and the spells and items put forth are genuinely fun and enjoyable. Do yourself a favor, buy it, use it, love it.

I really liked Gods and Magic. Its fun, informative and I feel as a GM that it is valuable. It brings you a little closer to Golarion :)

If there is any revision or update, can someone fix the entry for "Cayden Cailean" under "Areas of Concern"? One of the values is "treedom", but I think it's supposed to be "freedom".

That's not a misprint. Cayden is soon to be revealed as the new power behind the druids!
