Mounting your Druid

Rules Questions

Does the Druid player need any special training like how a horse needs to be war-trained?

Do all the mount feats work?

Well in order to mount your typical druid you're going to need bait. This can be tricky since they have such widely devergent tastes. Some might actually like "natural" smelling perfumes, musky scents or flowery ones might serve you well to attract their attention. Now you shouldn't try to out "wild" a druid -- this will generally end poorly for you, however a firm appreciation of the natural world can easily help you get a little closer to seeing the druid "al natural" so to speak...

Oh wait... I think I misunderstood your question.

Thanks, Jim!

Well, that's all the time we have this week. I'm Merlin Porkins. Thanks for watching Mutual of Paizo's "Wildshape Kingdom."

"Now children, you can't just put an ape and a bear in a room and expect them to make sweet, sweet love. You have to set the mood!"

Seriously, 'though, the horse isn't the one who has to buy the Mounted Combat, Ride-by-Attack, Mounted Archery, etc. feats, it's the rider. The 'mount' doesn't even really need specialized training, per the wording of the feats. Any old mount will do. As written, if the rider has the feats, the Druid should be able to perform the tricks.

Jaheira is a romance option in the second game, IIRC. You'll just have to wait until then.

Get an ape companion, use its first stat increase to up the int to 3, put all its ranks in ride, have it take mounted combat, ride-by attack, spirited charge, weapon prof. in lance, and maybe some armor prof. and poof, insta non-standard cavalier. plus enemies will probably think you're the ape, not the mount, which leads to some fun surprises

Who needs to make the fly check if you're on the back of a Druid as a Dire Bat (sized large)?

Glad I'm not the only one that saw the headline and giggled a little...

Giggled a little? Please, I burst out in full blown gleeful cackling at the person that unintentionally lined up such a perfect thread like this. It absolutely made my day.

See, I went the other direction and thought about how you taxidermy a wildshaped druid and mount it on your wall as a trophy...

but if the druid is wildshaped into any kin of feline and you mess up and mount the back end, well, that would be a catastrophe.

But it is so much funnier this direction.

That depends on the mount. For instance, a griffon is an intelligent creature, but it still needs to be trained before it can act as a mount. Likewise, pegasus need training too (otherwise the sentence "Trained pegasi are not afraid of combat" doesn't make much sense).

My two bits: I'd say that a druid wild shaped into an animal makes an "ill suited" mount unless a certain amount of time and money is spent in training (something along the lines of what a griffon or pegasus would need).
