How do I install this?
There are many people on this board who I never want to read another post from. And at the same time, many from whom I do.

I am hoping I am one of those you wish to ignore, just for the simple irony of this.
Anyway, first you need to be using Firefox.
Then you need to install the Greasemonkey add-on.
Then you install the Ignore Greasemonkey script.

Hey PMG, this thing is great. I just don't get why you guys don't integrate this feature. Anyway... don't bother replying because I can't see your posts. Well... of course I can't see any but my own.
LOVE IT!

I don't suppose anyone ever made a version for Chrome, did they?

Dang. It's glitchy. When someone on my ignore list totally spams the thread it sometimes breaks the script and I lose everything on the page.
Since it works independently of the boards, I think it just hides the posts, but the boards still position you screen as if they were visible. You have to scroll up to catch the remaining posts. Sometimes, you have to scroll up alot...

No. Sadly, Chrome does not support some essential Greasemonkey functions.
GM_getValue is not supported.
GM_setValue is not supported.
These are the functions the script uses to store the ignore list on your computer. Chrome does not allow these functions; probably for security reasons.
Since Paizo will store and display text provided by the user, it's possible to turn that into a storage space for the ignore list.
Likely it would take the form of a spoiler tag in your profile. That, of course, brings it's own concerns:
- Would you want your ignore list made public?
- Would Paizo be comfortable with public ignore lists?
- What if the script goes haywire and wipes out the profile you spent hours writing?
- Private ignore lists might be possible with encryption; but then would you want to go through the hassle of typing a password on every single page load? (Personally, I'd never put up with an extension that annoying.)
I haven't found good answers to these questions yet, so I've been reluctant to foist a sub-standard Chrome script on the community.
There is a better solution. I just haven't had time to find it yet.

Although I wrote and do run the script, my ignore list is empty. I have had some people on it for testing purposes, but never for keeps.
For my taste, the good folks at Paizo have struck an excellent balance between more-or-less free (but responsible) expression and removal of blatantly anti-social content.
Some people have higher standards than I do. So I'm glad to have helped them shape their online experience to suit their own tastes.

Kruelaid, I've updated the script to try to fix the issue you are experiencing.
Can you uninstall the script and then reinstall from the same link you used before, and let me know if it works better for you?

Yes, something to make the atoms in the interwebz spontaneously configure by themselves...

I made a version for Chrome this morning.
paizo_ignore Extension for Chrome
When one initially clicks Ignore, the ignored posts do not collapse. They merely blank out, leaving a kind of ugly empty block. On future page loads, they are properly collapsed and removed.

I tried it, but it doesn't seem to save my Ignore list properly. It keeps reverting to a single poster not of my choosing.

That's because the Fate's are trying to warn you. This single poster is your arch-enemy at some point in the not-to-distant future. In that nearly post-apocalyptic time, you and he will lead armies against each other. You will be trying to protect Earth's only hope - the last mated pair of penguins - from distruction at this Future Evil Warlord's hands.

hogarth, how do you have your Cookies set in Chrome?
[Wrench Icon] -> Preferences (menu item) -> Under the Hood (sidebar) -> Privacy (section) -> Content Settings (button) -> Cookies (section)
This setting also covers "Local Storage", which is what the paizo_ignore extension uses in order to store your ignore list. If you've got it set to "current session only" or "block", then it will not be able to save your list.
You can set an exception just for Paizo with the "Manage Exceptions..." button.
As for a single poster, that is very odd behavior? Let me review the source and get back to you.

You're welcome. :-)
Did you also see my topic auto-link script?
Laithoron posted links to the Chrome and Firefox versions.
I have the ignore script installed, but my list is always empty.
However, I can't live without the topic autolink.

Ahhh yes, you are correct. What a stupid mistake; the comment said "// create an empty ignore list", but that's not what the code was doing.
Thank you for the bug report. :-)

Will do. Thanks a_m. I am moving computers around here.... (and moving across the planet) so when I get the new system up back home in Canada i'll try it out).

Knowing nothing about these scripts/extensions, how hard would it be to create one that filters all instances of a particular word (in this case, one that triggers an avatar change here on the forum), replacing the word with text of one's choosing, and replacing the newly-replaced avatar icon with an icon of one's choosing?

I could make one that replaced it with a specific word and specific icon without too much trouble. Being able to choose the word and choose the icon is a little more complicated though.

Oh, just a pre-defined specific word and icon would be fine.
Unless you're saying choosing the word and icon that would be replaced would be complicated?

In case it matters, I'd also like to see an ignore feature, though I'm sure its been addressed by admin in the 300+ posts why that would or wouldn't work for the board. I expect the negative side of an ignore button would be that posts that annoy to the point of madness are often situational, but there is at least one longtime poster who never fails to drive me to burbling rage with every arrogant, condescending post, regardless of the topic. I'm sure everyone has at least one person like that on this board or some other.
One point in favor of an ignore feature is that it's more democratic than flagging and censoring posts, though thats only a minor point in the case of these boards, where no one plays whack-a-mole with the auto-ban hammer and the majority are very friendly to one another.
