1) Yes. If you trip them while they're adjacent to you you'll provoke attacks of opportunity tho, as the whip is a ranged touch attack. What you can do tho is trip someone 10' away, then 5' step next to them and stabby at +4 cuz they're prone.
2) Yes. Normal two weapon fighting penalties apply.
I'd give the net and trident a go, personally.

ok cool. do i need to wait untill level 6 where i get 2 attacks? or can i do it at level 1? also if i take the improved trip / disarm feat presumably they dont get an attack of opertunity

You can do it at lvl 1 with two weapon fighting. If you take the imp. trip/disarm feats you don't provoke. Except when attacking adjacent enemies with your whip for the reasons above.
So, lvl 1 human = 3 feats.
TWF
Imp. Trip
Exotic Weapon Prof - Whip.
You could do that, i recommend not going with the whip tho, unless you're set on that RPing wise. You don't threaten (that's not that bad cuz you still threaten with short sword), it deals no damage to pretty much anyone - you're just tripping with it. if you're cool with that then that's fine, but i'd be more inclined to go with the net. Or just two kukri, or sword and board, or whatever.

You take the -2 on cmb, since it qualifies as a special version of an attack (the same as a bardic performance would improve it). But to take Imp. Trip you will also need Combat Expertise.

ok thanks. i just re-read the rules and was wondering do i get my attack bonus as well? if i have a fighter with BAB +1 and STR +2 i will have a cmb of +3 and a attack bonus of +3. so when i roll to do a disarm do it get +3 or +6?
secondly if i get things like weapon focus so i get +1 to hit dose this help my cmb with weapon based attacks?
also can i provoke 2 attacks of opertunity? because if my whip is going to provoke attacks every time i use it when threatened there is no point taking the feat to get rid of the attacks i provoke unless that way they get 2 attacks.
lastly could you explain why i can disarm and attack in one go? just in case i need to justify it to the dm because im not sure why. it says i can do a cmb instead of an attack, but i only get one attack per turn untill level 6. the two weapon fighting (i think) dosnt give me more attacks, it just makes my 1 attack do two lots of damage. dose the twf acturaly give me another attack? and dose that extra attack come in my attack round or do i have to use my second movement? i.e. dose one attack happen in my standard action and the other in my movement? or both in my standard action? thanks

When performing a combat maneuver, you only use your CMB, plus modifiers that add to the weapon.
For example, I'm currently building a 3rd level bard that uses a whip to trip folks. He has:
Str 16
BAB +2
Weapon Focus: Whip
and uses a masterwork scorpion whip
His total bonus for tripping folks is +7. 3 Strength mod + 2 BAB + 1 weapon focus + 1 masterwork = +7.
If he lost his whip and bought a new non-masterwork one, his bonus would drop to +6. If he started using a non-masterwork halberd instead of a whip, it'd drop to +5.
He's also a bard, so if he's currently using Inspire Courage, it goes up to +8.
Anything that modifies your attack roll modifies your CMB roll, for good or ill. Similarly, anything that affects your AC also affects your CMD.

dose using two weapons give me another attack action during my round or are the attacks with each weapon lumped together into one attack when you work out what you can do in your turn. because disarming acts as a combat action so if i only get one then i cant attack after. if it gives me an extra attack action however i can disarm then attack.

Doctore is one bad dude.
One of my players picked up the Spiked Chain after seeing the one where Sparty fought that one dude in the pits of the underworld.
It's a decent show that follows the core rules of AC if i ever saw one.
If you can get past the Premium Channel habit of killing everyone every other episode (Rome or Deadwood anyone?) formula, you could really get into the show.

Funny that.
In an interview, she mentioned that the director made her a bunch of merkins (google it if you don't know) that matched all her different hair colors. And yet, they never got used in the show. Tragic.
Maybe she was just teasing her fans bringing that up in the interview...

TWF gives you two separate attacks, each at -2. Either or both of these can be Combat Maneuvers. So, yes, you can disarm, then attack or trip, then attack.
And you'll need another feat (4 total) to make it all work, as you'll need the Combat Expertise feat before you can take Imp. Trip.

She had to be, because when i saw the finale my actual first thought was "HEY WAIT!!! No MERKINED XENA!?!?!?!" and my second thought was "Holy !@#$% !@$%, BATMAN! That was awesome!'
too bad Spartacus got non-hodgkins lymphoma, though. Season 2 had to be delayed, but rumor has it we're gonna get a 6 episode mini series as a prequel. Maybe that's where we'll get to the Merkined Xena?
As an aside, we also follow the Seeker, an I am constantly making jokes about Rahl having to leave to get to Rome to change his clothes to make it to Capua on time for his appointments. And Spartacus is gonna be pissed to find out his new GF is a Mord'Sith, and sleeping with Rahl/Glaber! ;)

Also worth point out, you only get the extra attack(s) for two weapon fighting when making a full attack action. So you can't have moved any more than a 5 foot step that turn.
