Calling all first time PBP players

I currently run two games on this forum, and once one of them finishes I plan on starting a new Pathfinder RPG game just for those who have never participated on a PBP before. If you're a PBP newbie, or have played a PBP but never a Pathfinder/Golarion PBP, you can sign up here in advance.

I'm looking to keep the party small, up to five players. We'll be going through a short Pathfinder Society module. Once that finishes, I'll start up a new adventure for a different group of newbies.

If you sign up here and while waiting manage to get into another PBP game, then I would appreciate it if you rescind your application (by notifying me on this thread.)

I'm still trying to get into my first pbp. I was selected for one but the GM had RL intervene and pushed the start off sometime in to the future. In an attempt to start PBP, I started developing my own homebrew campaign and I'm just waiting for the campaign setting to arrive so that I can add that flavor.

In the mean time, I'd love to get at least a little PBP experience under my belt before starting my campaign.

I'd really enjoy joining your campaign. Thanks for helping newbies their start.

I haven't played a Pathfinder PBP and no Golarion at all, so I'd really like the opportunity.

No problem at all.

Also: please do not create a character until I ask you to. Reason being, player selection will be based on first-come, first serve. So you'll have to pick a class based on party balance, which we won't be sure about until later.

I am currently in one of JZ's new player campaigns and it is a great way to get started. He is very patient and tells a great story. I would highly recommend him as a GM, first time or not.

I'd like to join up. I've never played a PBP.

Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for! Count me in!

1000 xp for you!

;)

I'm putting my name in the hat as well. I have never participated in a pbp game before and I've been itching to join one.

My experience with Golarion is zero though. But I have played Pathfinder in a homebrew setting with some of my RL friends which ended 3 months ago. Hence why I'm looking for another outlet for some good RP'ing :)

Should I keep an eye on this thread for when your ready to accept characters? Or will there be E-mails sent?

Please keep an eye out for this thread.

Count me in.

Liberty's Edge

I've never played a pbp before and have a very limited knowledge of the pathfinder setting, but would be interested in joining if you get down the list to me.

It looks like you've got more than five here already, but just in case I am interested. I haven't done any PBP in something like 10 years and not with Pathfinder/Golarion obviously.

I have done PbP before but never a PFRPG one and never in the Paizo forums.

Technically, I am in two games. In one, the DM said he was putting it one hold for a couple weeks after everyone made their characters but before starting. That was about two months ago. :( In the other, the DM chose a group but has decided to write a some homebrew rules and setting material while simultaneously restarting another similar game. There is no timetable for starting, I haven't seen the rules to make a character, and I am not certain if it will eventually make it off the ground. So, am I good to be on the list? :)

I've never played a pbp before, and I really don't know everything that I should about the rules system for Pathfinder. I've DM for my friends before since they know less then me, but I don't have any gaming experience beyond that and I've done nothing with Golarion before.

Please count me in! This would be my first PbP forum. I have read most of the Adventure Path player guides and am familiar with Golarion as a setting. I have been drawing up several character concepts, so I am ready to play whatever kind of role the party needs. I am currently working around the concept of a sling-staff wielding halfling.

Yup.

I think that I'm joining another pbp, so I can't join this one, sorry. But there's plenty of people who can, it looks like.

Thanks for letting us know. I hope you have a great game.

Brand new to PbP Role playing just stumbled upon this a few hours ago and spent them reading 42 pages of a campaign lol. I would love to have a chance at joining this adventure.

I do not have much experience with Golarion but i do have the pathfinders rpg book and the campaign setting book both of which i read whenever i have the chance.

I was wondering what the character creation guidelines will be. Should the fact you said it will be a Pathfinder Society module let me know?

Just looking to pass the time while waiting...

I haven't finalized that yet. I might not use Pathfinder Society modules, but full "Gamemastery" modules instead.

I would love the chance to try some play by post. I'll keep my eyes on this thread for details. Thanks.

Hi DM JZ,

I would be really interested. I have never done a PBP and would love to learn the process. I have most things Pathfinder but have not yet had a chance to play it in real life or online.

I am trying to start up a game in real life as a DM (still waiting for others to be available) and would love the experience of playing pathfinder to be more familiar with it

Cheers

I'm also interested and I don't mind being on a waiting list, never done PBP but interested in learning. thanks

Thanks. I will just have to tinker with some varied ideas then.

I'd be interested in taking part in one of your games. I'm a newbie in both PBP and Golarion.

I'd like to add my name to the list (waiting?) as well. Have never never been able to quite balance timing and commit to a PbP game, and I'd really like to get some Pathfinder gaming in.

Regards.

AJC

Yup, it's a waiting list.

I would also like to be put on the waiting list. I would like to try PbP gaming.

Tordek, LB, Jocund, Snake, and Charlie, can you start thinking about what roles (classes) in the party you want to take? All of you will be level 3.

It will still be a while, maybe two to three weeks before we start.

Thank you JZ.

I want to try a sorcerer with the draconic (copper) bloodline.

I'm thinking a rogue, perhaps a dwarf. I'm thinking more of a gearhead rogue than a stealthy rogue. Would that be an appropriate concept for this adventure?

Stealthy is good.

Ok, I'm thinking about playing a 'bad-ass' Cleric. More a warrior priest than a healer. Spreading the name of his/her deity whether the recipient likes it or not.

I've been looking at the domains and two combinations look nice: either Fire/Madness or Fire/War. The former would be more a character with a deeply troubled past (a kind of 'firestarter') and the latter more a real combat priest, wielding a mace in one hand and lobbing holy fire with the other.

If you want to stick to the gods of Golarion, I think Sarenrae comes closest, and maybe then using the Fire/Glory combo would work, with the character being more of an undead-killer.

How does that sound?

I'm thinking of a Human Paladin of Iomedae, who seeks to live up to the ideals of Valor, Honor, and Justice. He believes that it is the obligation of all good beings to actively oppose evil in all its forms. He's a true crusader from Mendev who is growing disgusted with the darker side of the crusaders though he still believes in the cause itself.

Sounds good to me. How does everyone else feel about having a combat priest?

I was thinking about a Lastwall cavalier, but if LB's going to be a paladin, I might go with a support character of some kind instead. Maybe an inquisitor or alchemist.

@SnakeNuts: that sounds a lot like the Shoanti cleric of Sarenrae I played in RotRL. He had been captured and sold into slavery in his early teens and sold to a devout Sarenrae-worshipping Keleshite in Absalom. After he converted, his master freed him and he went to Sandpoint to start a mission to the Shoanti. He had more Str than Wis and he really brought the pain to the badguys.

Fine with me. I don't always expect the cleric to be the party band aid. A few wands of healing and we will be just fine. I plan to focus my spells on battlefield management, buffing and debuffing.

Have you decided which module you are thinking of playing? A sneak preview will help me develop my back story.

I'm not sure yet.

Actually, I'd like to ask : any special requests?

These are the modules I own and haven't run yet:

Hangman's Noose
River Into Darkness

These are adventures I am now running and don't want to repeat:

Queen of the Fellnight Realm
Carrion Hill

I can comfortably afford any module that Paizo sells. I'm going to buy another Pathfinder module anyways. Any suggestions?

I can't however run any adventures from the Falcon's Hollow trilogy, because I'm a currently a player in that.

I would prefer not to run an Adventure Path, as those are too involved.

Also, I cannot do Crypt of the Everflame.

DM JZ wrote:

Nope, I haven't played any PathFinder stuff at all yet and the only modules I've played recently are the WotC 4th edition stuff.

At some point I'd like to play or DM the Kingmaker AP as that looks like good fun to me, but seeing that you don't want to do an AP that's no problem with me.

OK, a stealthy rogue, then.

Since I don't know any of the modules, I'm just fine with any of them.

Of the two that you have, River Into Darkness looks interesting.

I would be quite interested in playing (no PbP exp here). If you have a list of future players, I would be excited to be added to it.

You're on the list.

I am going to bow out (of the waiting list) because it looks like I have gotten in another game. However, I would like to say thanks for the consideration.
