His attention focused on the suspicious spriggans, it is not until he approaches the party's weapons does he notice what has been done. Where Thediar's trident is supposed to be is a rusted pitchfork. Janus' bow has been replaced by a cracked and unstrung shortbow. Sarek's falchion by a broom, and so on. The spriganns laugh uproariously.

Thediar laughs, because it is funny. He glances into the bag that allegedly holds Tenzekil's corpse.

He announces to the spriggans assembled: "It is a merry jest, indeed. But I have a tale of a finer jest still:..."

He tells a short story of a gnome who tried to use clever illusions to fool a giant whom he had taken in as a guest, and how the tables got turned and taught the gnome a thing or two.

Untrained Perform: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

"And that's the thing about hospitality. Jokes or no, the bond of a guest and host are sacred. Your Queen has invited us to come as guests, and held our wares in safe keeping. This jest reflects on Her Majesty, and makes Her look the fool, for making promises she cannot keep, and for abusing the sacred trusts. Lives there any here who did not see what befalls a Fellnight servant who decides on his own initiative to act contrary to the Her Dread Majesty's will?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

"We'll be walking out, on that trail over there. We expect to find our gear waiting for us."

(EDIT: I'm hoping someone can help boost one or the other roll, either the story up to a 15, or the Diplomacy up to a 30.)

Sarek steps up beside Thediar.

"We complied with the Queen's wishes regarding our arms...we did not even interfere with the squabble with the gnome. We are honor bound to bear the Queen's tidings outside the Fellnight. Please return our belongings, so we may be on our way. Your Queen is a woman of honor...do not besmirch her."

Diplomacy (aid Thediar) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

The denizens of the Fellnight merely laugh mockingly.

"You stole from the Queen, so it's only fitting you get stolen from too! Besides, you can't prove who among us took it!"

You have to consider what alignment these guys possibly are. The Queen as well.

"Does Her word mean so little to you that you would cast it aside like garbage? You would trade the honor of the Fellnight Queen for a jape?"

Thediar makes out the spriggan who approached earlier and demanded that we surrender our weapons. "II had understood the word of the fae was a serious matter. You refused to be in my debt a few minutes ago; would you turn about and owe us this much so soon?"

Thediar pulls the rude pitchfork out of the ground and looks at his fellows. "Guys, they stole from my surplus, but from your main store. What's your call here? Also, given the press of the crowd, I'd recommend a good double-check of all your loose properties."

Sense Motive, JZ. What do we need to do here? Would the spriggans respect us more if we cracked some heads? Sense Motive: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

"I advise you to give back my friend's weapons, or I will burn every last one of you, spriggans," Lilia says with true malice in her voice. She was growing very weary of dealing with this Queen and her minions.

Intimidate 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

How many spriggans and other bad guys are there?

Can I see who has our weapons? Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

OOC:

Guys, I'm calling it quits here. The Fellnight fey hold all the cards now. They're going to do everything to delay you while they take over the forest. They'll start with having you run around in circles trying to get your weapons back. Then they'll take you in the forest and ditch you. If you survive the forest shadow creatures and make it out, you'll have to deal with what they gave you in place of Tenzekil's corpse. And there's no way Maligorn is going to share the forest with Rhoswen, just as Rhoswen admitted that she has no intention of sharing it with Maligorn. As far as I'm concerned, the party is too far down in the hole to pull off a victory here. So I'm not going to let you waste my time here. Bye.

Before you toss everything in the can, perhaps a bit of post-mortem as to how we wound up in a no-win scenario, or what clue we missed?

I'll admit I was expecting a battle when we met up with the spriggan forces, so I assume that's where we made our fatal turn.

I'm thinking that our last chance was the dagger Janus palmed as we met the queen. Dimplomacy was probably never an option.

Dark Archive

He had a couple of other PbP's waiting in the wings. He started them right after he ended ours. Perhaps this one went longer than he anticipated.
