How is that for a cool idea? Give the top thirty-two Paizocon tickets! Paizo could print out a few extra tickets! Granted you'd still have to find your way to the CON and find a couch to sleep on/under/behind...but still!
I think it would be cool to (a) be in the top 32 (Most important!) and (b) be able to meet who my competition was (obviously after the fact). You could even have some panels, et cetera.
You know, I have such good ideas Paizo should just give me tickets...and a bunch of writing work...I need something to distract me from my doctoral dissertation that keeps staring at me from across the room while I try to sleep at night.

There were quite a few Superstars at last year's PaizoCon, but given the cost of getting to Seattle and getting a hotel room, a free badge isn't really that big a prize. It seems like a lame prize to give to someone who may or may not be able to afford the (much more costly) associated expenses. If a Top 32 contestant can afford the trip there and the hotel, then what's another few bucks?

My guess is it's more a mental thing than anything. "I made it in the Top 32, I got a free ticket to Paizocon! OH YEAH!!" ya get what I'm saying?
I agree it's no big deal really, but I could see it being meaningful to those who won it.
As an aside.... I live in Pierce County Western Washington :P

Speaking as a resident Texan, Such a thing would be symbolic indeed. However I would appreciate the gesture. I'm truly satisfied with the Pathfinder PDF that the 32 receive. If I would like to see anything more it would be a PDF of Mr. Spicer's module so we could see what a winning final product looks like. Otherwise I have to wait until I can scrape the cash together to buy it. Cheers!

You can pretty much see what a winning final product looks like by checking out Christine Schneider's Clash of the Kingslayers. You don't have to wait on Realm of the Fellnight Queen. And, in truth, you should already be checking out the format, style, structure, and creativity in all of Paizo's Pathfinder modules. They'll give you the sense of what such an adventure should entail from a design perspective.

Go to agree, living in Denmark, a free ticket would be awesome sure, if it wasn't for the fact I would need something like $400+ extra to get near the thing it would hardly be relevant. Of course already having the PDF does make the perspective of getting it severely less thrilling, but for serious people, as far as I understand there's several good reason to use it:
1. It's relatively cost minimal to Paizo, and look at it they can't go give 32 people something major.
2. It's been faintly hinted that the later rounds will require at least some minimal Knowledge (Golarion), which makes giving all contestants that will go on to those rounds a pdf so they have at LEAST the minimal acces to knowledge, without needing to spend money on it.
3. Quite seriously, who really wants a reward for making the 32? It should be a reward in itself - if the fact that the Superstar contest in itself isn't enough.
4. If they start giving thing like tickets to the 32, then what about top 16, top 8 etc? they got so far, but still no more reward to it except to the winner. Guess I go to admit I would be feeling a bit let down if there wasn't a seriously good reason to have a reward to all of the first (2.)
4. And for serious, a contest-related PDF is a lot better and more constructive and creative than say beer money. Or a ticket that any foreign user will have a hard time putting to use.
5. I for one don't think getting a reward at all compares any bit to the fact of actually being among the top 32. Seriously. I would be plenty thrilled there and far too busy with the next round to think about other rewards.
I know I might sound highly critical, but honestly I'm trying for being objectively reasonable, while giving my point of view here.
I consider the entire fact that the contest is there, and free, relatively unquestionably awesome, and honestly have a hard time seeing why Paizo should offer people additional reward that's not contest-related, when they're already offering something far more awesome. A chance to get your creative work into consideration for publishing, tested by professionals etc.
This isn't a fun, win something contest. It's more like a search for future talents.

All good points.
I certainly didn't mean to suggest that it should be viewed as a "prize" for winning but more like a nice gesture by Paizo. If I make the 32 cut the last thing I'd do is worry about Paizocon...in fact I am 98% sure I won't attend as I live in New England...with or without free admission. Mind you IF I do win the entire contest, well...then I would probably come.
Just generating some conversation.
Cheers

You know, in regard to prizey-things, I wonder... Which cons will Paizo be attending in addition to Paizocon? Paizocon, GenCon, Dragon*Con, maybe a few others?
I see a speaker panel with a finalist or two and the delegation from Paizo, maybe, or something similar? A chance for Paizo to use their (free) talent pool as PR faces? I think that would be brilliant.
