Christmas Music

Off-Topic Discussions

I like Christmas music. The classics yes, but not so much 'grandma got hit by a deer'.

What is your favorite Christmas Song?

Here is one of mine: >Carol of the Old Ones<

Liberty's Edge

Well I'm listening to Bob Dylan's Christmas in the Heart and it's very good in a kooky sort of way.

This is the Christmas music I'm listening to right now. :)

Carol of the Bells

I prefer old school myself. The Rat Pack, Bobbie Helms, Andy Williams, Brenda Lee.

O Holy Night

This.

I'm fairly sure that Christmas Music is the root of all evil. The fountainhead or source if you will.

Me too although I'm starting to like some of the stuff my wife listens to like the John Denver/Muppets CD and the Charlie Brown instrumental stuff.

Working in retail, I get to listen to Christmas/holiday music all day, every day.

Starting before Halloween this year.

As you may guess, I have built up huge stockpiles of hatred for almost all holiday tunes, although some garner special levels of disdain.

Bob Dylan singing like a Muppet and Andrea Bocelli's overly bombastic delivery are the special tortures so far this year.

Scarab Sages

What do you get a wookie for Christmas?

Seriously though -- Christmas Eve in Sarajevo by the TransSiberian Orchestra.

Carol of the Bells here. Also, Handel's Messiah, particularly the Hallelujah chorus. But surprisingly, Air Supply's Xmas album used to be a favorite for me. I enjoyed 'Eyes of a Child' and 'Love is All' the most.

"The Little Drummer Boy" and "Do You Hear What I Hear?"

:-)

And yes, the Transiberian Orchestra is awesome.

Ha-ha! Thanks, Cosmo.

I always sing "Fee Fie Foe Fum" to the tune of "O Tannenbaum."

Liberty's Edge

A Charlie Brown Christmas

That CD goes in the car every December 1st and doesn't come out 'til the New Year.

I like the old ones, like 'Adeste Fideles.' Apparently the familiar version is a slightly sanitized translation from the 19th century. Imagine my surprise upon reading the original:

Gestant puellae viscera.

which means

The guts of a girl carry him.

but which could also mean, and which I originally thought meant

The girls bear the entrails.

I was picturing festive Yule maidens carrying around intestines.

My favorite Christmas album is Garth Brooks: Beyond the Season.

I like them all, but "O Holy Night" definitely tops the list. Can never listen to it without a tear or two. :)

Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas, courtesy of John Denver and the Muppets.

My fav x-mas songs;

Sting - Gabriel's Message

ELP - Father Christmas

OK I am NOT a fan of christmas music in any way BUT I cant get away from it I like grandma got run over by a raindeer,The 12 REDNECK days of christmas and the tune jingle bells "sung" by the barking dogs.
As sad as it may be I actually like those songs oh and I almost forgot the one about leroy the redneck raindeer.

Yes I realize I have strange tastes but hey ya like what you like.

Yes, I like "Jingle Barks" myself. It's not my absolute favorite (see "O Holy Night"), but it's a lot of fun and I like to listen to it along with the other songs at Christmas time. :)

Silent Monks - Hallelujah Chorus

Awesome and Hilarious. Worth the watch even if you're non-religious or (like me) don't celebrate Xmas as a religious holiday.
