I've entered. Whew! The pressure you feel just before you click "Submit"!
If you think there's pressure now, wait until you learn you've made the Top 32, you only have 3 days to turnaround your next submission after learning the next round's rules, and you take into account you're writing for the votes of the general public as well as the judges. That's when the pressure starts to really build...

Yea, I did a double-take the first time I really looked over the schedule. Those deadlines are brutal. I've been describing this as the "World's Top Chef of game design", but "Iron Chef" might honestly be a better comparison.
They want to see if we can perform under pressure and on deadline.
It will make it much more interesting, I'm afraid.

What you mean "we" Kemo Sabe? ;) I expect that I will truly enjoy watching the next several rounds. :) I entered for fun, and it's already had some good entertainment value.

Five minutes later and I still don't know what to say. Maybe John Fogerty can help me out here.
Well, beat the drum and hold the phone - the sun came out today! We're born again, there's new grass on the field.

Tonight's secret ingriedent... D12!
HooRAY for the D12! It's good to see the D12 get some love. It seems like the only times we see it rolled at our gaming table is when the barbarian rolls his HP or the newbie player accidentally rolls it instead of the D20 for his attack roll.
Reach for the stars, D12! This is your time in the sun!

I was in relatively early. I just held off saying so.
Periodically I re-read my entry. I still have faith that it's really innovative, well balanced, and well written, but second guessing yourself is natural.
If it doesn't make it, then I think with some voluntary feedback from the judges, I'll definitely know what it takes next time.
Happy Holidays and Good Luck everybody!

No entry from me as of yet, but Merry Christmas everyone.
And, off-topic, once again I remind you, you can now use your time productively, planning to got to PaizoCon (Seattle) in June 2010, PaizoCon UK (Birmingham) in July 2010, or to various other conventions which will be featuring PFS organised play... ;)
Okay, that's my shameless thread-bumpery done for now... :D

I like that word iron. Makes me feel like I have an edge.
My entry is awaiting review after Christmas and will be submitted in the next few days.

I was thinking Chopped is also an accurate analog.

I think I'll pass this year, my ideas so far have been sub-par to say the least, and unless a stroke of genius hits me this close to the deadline... I'll not waste the judges time :)
I hope you change your mind Stefan and inspiration strikes. You obviously have talent having previously made the top 32. At the very least, its good practice and more importantly - fun!

It's their time to waste! So long as it is a serious entry and not a joke.
Truthfully, of the 64 previous Round One items, not every one of them is the penultimate best there ever could be. All I can say is the first 32 were better than my first year entry. I'll never know if the second 32 were better than any idea I might have had, because I didn't enter the second year.
Likewise, you don't know until you try again.
Take the risk, and allow yourself the opportunity to be surprised by what you can do.

Ah. I have been in a similar situation. For a while I had an idea for an item which I felt was only 20% or 40% of what a Superstar item ought to be and it felt intellectually dishonest to me to enter an item into a Superstar contest which I was certain was so clearly not a Superstar item.
You have my sympathy Stefan and well, if genius hits then, too bad that that's just made life really awkward for the others who have to fight you for places in the top 32.The abyssal spurs were up in the better half of the items last time, I felt. :)

That's just it Charles. The only one that you're allowing to make that determination is you and you alone.
And maybe you won't hear this so well coming from me, because I know I've disagreed with you in the past (during chats), but I'm being sincere now.
Admittedly, I can be too blunt and coarse. :(
Getting back to you; you're only seeing your item through the filmy lens of your own perception. You're only evaluating your potential self-worth through your own personal estimation of yourself.
If your item really isn't Superstar caliber, then let somebody besides you make that determination. Safely and anonymously. No one, and I mean no one, is the best judge of their own work. Nobody has to know how your item is/was rated. You don't have to ask for public feedback.
We are our own worst critics; and we're hardly fit to be considered objective.
I wish you'd give it a try. You're good at editing and that's a start.
As for intellectual dishonesty, if we limited ourselves to only those things that we knew were good at, we'd never innovate. We'd never discover our potential. We'd stagnate.

+1. Come on, I've entered so at least you won't come in last place. ;-)
