Round 2 starts on the 30th. We get about two weeks on each pair of classes.

I am such a doofus, I doublechecked that AFTER I posted and realized that they were staggered like that.

Mea culpa.

Are we going to get multiple stabs at play tests? i.e. Are they going to be taking our feedback from the play test, re-drafting the classes with changes to address our concerns, and then allowing us to play test the resulting class again before making a final version?

My bet, no. Not at all.

I would like to release a few revisions, but it will depend heavily on my available time.

Awesome! I wish you could spam time stop!

Are the first released classes most likely to have revisions released? Or are the ones you feel need the most work more likely?

My vote goes to charismatic oracles, too.

+1 to Charisma for Oracles.

Picture Robert the Bruce the Elder in Braveheart. Not too charismatic, in my humble opinion.

Really? That's exactly the example I thought of to illustrate a hideous, rotting, high-Charisma character.

King Baldwin (Edward Norton) in Kingdom of Heaven is a good second place.

Remember the big beef about quotes in the early dnd days? some people were complaining that the books mentioned hitler as a charismatic (and in their minds, therefore, admirable) figure. I would agree that Hitler was extremely charismatic, but he was most assuredly not a looker. So, good point.

I picture the oracle the same way. I think the oracle fits the kind of thing like paul muad'dib was. u know? the sort of person with mystic, god-given abilities, but not extremely reverent, yet extremely charismatic. and he was blind by the end of Dune Messiah. hmm? sounds kinda like an oracle to me..... And that does sound like an a-maze-ing character concept anyways: divine, irreverent mystic demagogue....

Perfect analogy.

I have done my best to generate some enthusiasm for the four new classes but I just can't. They play test well but I would rather play a paladin then a cavalier, a cleric instead of a oracle, a bard rather than a summoner and a wizard instead of a witch. Of the group I might play a cavalier in an Iron Heroes campaign, looks like a fairly good fit. All of them are well written but just don't grab me.

So far the only reason for me to consider purchasing the APG is James' comment of more options for bards.

Sorry,
Doug

Heh as opposed to me who so far has loved the cavalier and the summoner. I can't wait to play those classes, granted I also can't wait to play most of the base classes anyways since I am pretty much a career DM.

And go watch the movie 300 again for when they visit the Oracle. That's a perfect illustration of what we're talking about here, accept that this class is souped up to travel.

To tear away form the new classes discussion a bit...

What other things can we expect to see in the APG? New prestige classes? More spells and magic items? Any new races? Would LOVE to see an update on catfolk and dragonmen, ESPECIALLY dragonmen (currently have a player running a WotC dragonborn paladin, and would rather have a race that's not always good-oriented, and not "you were this race, but now you're this race AND still your old race" either). Will there be a traps section with a broader selection? New weapons, perhaps (again, currently have another player wielding a maul, using 3.5 stats)?

Although I'm pretty sure we'll see more "playable as PCs" races in future bestiaries, I for one would rather have them laid out in a manner as the base races in the PFPG are.

I love the new characters from the Advanced Character Guide. All of the new characters are useful and not overpowered or overpowering. It is so cool that Paizo has taken the time to ask the general players to try new character types before they approve them for print and accept the testing done by the average players; something that Wizards or TSR before them did not do. I have read through the new character types listed and will attempt to play a game with several of the new types in it. It is hard to really do it because there are few players that are in my area and I do not not have transportation to go where a lot of them congregate. We used to have a group but we all got older and it broke up. I especially like the Pracle, Summoner, and Inquisitor. the three have very interesting abilities and I would love to see how they would relate to game terms and whether they would be useful. I have been playing roll-playing games since 1979. I have been thru 5 versions of D& D and 2 versions of Pathfinder. I just think that Pathfinder is 1000 times better because they care for the players and try to give the players what they want. I love the game. Pathfinder has so improved over 3.5 D & D that it should not be even compared anymore to that.
