Precisions about wildshape

Rules Questions

I have some questions regarding wildshape.

At level 8, a druid can shift into a huge animal. Can the druid shift into a huge tiger? or should we find an existing huge animal ( There is no yet in the previews, but I suppose there will be some in the bestiary)

My sense is that it would be much better if you had the original size as a huge creature shown in the Bestiary it would be much better (Remember Dire animals count), however as a DM I'd let you simply take the base creature and increase it's size to the new appropriate amount, which should change the damage dice, as stats are based off the spell, and the special abilities of the monster shouldn't change.

Good advice - best to take an existing creature, but it is simple enough to up the damage dice from another size (1d3 -> 1d4, 1d4 -> 1d6, etc.)

Not so sure about doing a Huge Rat or something, though the idea has some merit.

Make a dire version of this and there you go... Huge rat (Or close enough that I'd call it a rat).

So what is the ruling on this? Cuz id love to be able to shift into a huge Rabit.

F****** forum ate my post. I just wanted to say that the Q&A were interesting.

I wondered about this in the other direction because Dire Crocodile seemed to have changed size between SRD and Bestiary.

I'll post some Excel thing as soon as I solve my GoogleDocs issues.

An important point is that you do not need to calculate size changes for the base animal because the spell outlines what you get.

Therefore, since you will be more or less just adjusting your existing abilities and adding abilities of the base form, it is immaterial WHAT the size is. You can be a huge mouse, because you really only get the mouse abilities and the benefits as outlined in the spell. The form itself does not matter.

IMHO.

Quite true, and reasonable......but it doesn't sound very....Druid-y to me.....IMHO

The size gives a +size bonus to the Ability Score. The form gives you the abilities, such as the ones listed below:

If the form you assume has any of the following abilities, you gain the listed ability: burrow 30 feet, climb 90 feet, fly 90 feet (good maneuverability), swim 90 feet, blindsense 30 feet, darkvision 60 feet, low-light vision, scent, constrict, ferocity, grab, jet, poison, pounce, rake, trample, trip, and web.

I though the size increases where based on the HD of the animal, or it was in 3.5. My though would be if you have the HD(you can't shift to a animal w/ hd higher than your own) to get the large animal to Huge, then you can shift it to Huge.
