So, they recruit a bunch of civilians to examine some offworld site, With a Gate to they dont know where, and their facility comes under attack so they decide to save as many as they can by jumping through the gate, and they cant go back because the gate is buried...and now they are on a very old ship on the far side of the Universe (as opposed to Galaxy) with failing life support.

I can instantly see how this ends.

No i dont mean badly. I mean with a massive black hole hyperspatial engine constructed in earth orbit, fueled with exotic matter from seven black holes from seven galaxies to replicate the original gate experiment that put the ship out there in the darkness beyond the light.

Doesn't look as bad as I originally thought, but it does have the "teen" influence I was worried about. My biggest beef will be if they kill off the authority figures early, like they did with Atlantis.

I was hoping they would kill off all the military guys so that all that was left was the Psychotic Doctor and a bunch of Civilians not all that keen on taking orders.

My concern is that they have gone Startrek on us.

THink about it.

Next Generation Flagship = SG1,
Deep Space Nine = Stargate Atlantis,
USS Voyager on the far side of the Universe = Stargate Universe.

What is the trend. After Voyager - Enterprise = a Prequel series where NAZIs have control over the original Stargate and establish an alternate reality on Abbydos.

Sounds like ST Voyager...

Actually, that sounds pretty cool.

Perhaps I should be more clear, Robert Carlyle should be the focus. His character actually seems interesting. I don't want him to end up like Robert Patrick and killed off in the first episode.

Actually, that's covered in AEG's Stargate supliment :-)

Stargate Doom: Abbydos on Earth

spin-off series...

Stargate: Wolfenstein

I await this and hope it does not suck

This starts soon doesnt it? I need to set my recorder...

hehe stargate wolfenstein; lol

I have this feeling...Robert Carlyle may have 'betrayed them all' and arranged the attack on the offworld stargate site so as to force the hand of his leaders.

Now that would be a far more interesting series.

The ship itself seems to be so far into hyperspace that it is on the edge of the expanding (or contracting-explaining the bow wake) Universe.

I love the beginning scene with Gen. O'Neil and Eli. To bad Jack won't have a bigger presence on the show, He was always my favorite character. And the show can't be Voyager if Robert Picardo doesn't appear. Also I wonder who attacked them, it did not look like Gou'ald or Jaffa attack craft from what I saw.

Has it allready aired?

October if I recall. As I dont get sci-fi I am hoping hulu or someone will have it

Oct. cool, David's post made it sound like it had aired.

Nope just commenting on what I saw on the video.

Apparently the pilot for this series was aired on Friday, over here in the UK however...I did stress over here in the UK didn't I?

Sorry just to make that clear its being shown this Wednesday at 9pm on I believe Sky One, please correct me here I don't want anyone missing this as from what I've seen this is very interesting!

By the way do I need spoilers at this point?

Spoiler#1

Spoiler:
Carlyle is obsessed with solving the secret of the ninth chevron, turns out it was a safety code but because it can only be accessed from another world that is about go kaboom well you know mad scientists... they just can't pass up the chance to confirm that theory!

Spoiler#2

Spoiler:
Everett should be dead if that head injury is anything to go by!

Spoiler#3

Spoiler:
Those are Goauld motherships?! Looks like an entirely different race is involved, but they are using deathgliders though!

Spoiler:
It was the Lucien Alliance. They were recurring villians during the last few seasons of SG-1. They seized contral of a large amount of Gou'ald equiptment after the Gou'ald collapsed. I was sort of hoping it was Ba'al when I first saw the motherships

I can see one reason why this won't be Voyager. In ST: Voyager the crew was a well trained crew of explorers who was well prepared for the rigors of life in deep space. They had the skills needed to survive, and they knew everything about the ship they were on. Also, after Caretaker there was a clear chain of command which most everyone followed, even if they didn't like it. However with SGU, we have already seen the group begin to develop factions and the chances are, with as many egos as we have in play on the ship, it will likely only continue. The only force that is likely to remain stable is the military, and even that is not garunteed at this point.

I allready like SG:U better than ST:V except that Dr. Rush = Dr. Smith.

Yes, but who is Robbie?

Yes, but who is Robbie?

That would be the psycho marine that was locked up at the begining and before you ask Eloy would be Will.

Dark Archive

Yeah, I figured that Eli was Will. But at least he's not Wesley. Eli is actually a great character, because he thinks he can do every thing, but he can't.

Don't even mention the name Wesley, it might bring a curse on the show.

I thought it was Eloy not Eli, oh well I'll have to watch it again.

Xabulba wrote:

See I thought it was Eli. It could have been Ellie though. :)

That's Eli (Wallace).

Aah the Hoth sequence from the trailer, yes he certainly seems to have the comic relief down pat.

Makes me hope this will only get better!

It's on syfy right now. Seems like a badly written LOST meets SG-1

Lol; ok; I just watched it last night and the only thing interesting about this show is that this Ancients ship their on...is EXACTLY like a warhammer gothic fleet battles Necron Tombship; right down to the pyramid and the cresent shaped wings; I put it on pause; got out my miniature of the tombship; and it is nearly perfect match.

Other than that; seems a bit cattlecar galactica to me; the soldiers are bunk, very poor; what can you expect from the Air Force I guess; guess having been a real soldier and watching them is to much for my suspension of disbelief to work. The ranks and experience of these guys is pathedic; poorly written; no real military force would work that way; sci fi channel should have hired some professional advisors.

Aren't these guy by their very involvement in the stargate project and being on another world supposed to be the best there is at what they do? that was my impression; that medic sucks; real military medics rock; I trust them to the core, more than most doctors; no questions asked; this chick is a nightmare.

My girlfriend and I were watching it, and that is exactly what i thought, minus the badly written part. You want to see badly written, you should watch some of the made for syfy movies.

I watched it on hulu and kinda liked it myself.

I think that most of the good upper rank military personel were outside maning the guns closer to the front line and were beamed up to the Hammond, the ones that went throught the stargate were on thier first mission babysitting Eli and the senator, or cooks.

That's kind of the feeling I got. In fact, Sam makes a comment about how the majority of the personel at Iccarus Base did not go through the gate.

They've worked with the Air Force since SG-1 started. Just wonder with the launch of a new series they didn't squeeze it in with all the other logistics for the pilot.

Watched the premiere on Syfy and I thought it sucked. It was slow, I couldn't get into any of the characters, and it's basically a rip off of Voyager, but set in the Stargate universe. Was lame.

Voyager was a rip off of Lost in Space which was a rip off of the Odyssey.

Yes the background situation has been done before but focus on the emerging story and future character development before you condemn it as a knock off.
One episode is not enough to call it crap, if it was then the first episode of ST:NG would have doomed the franchise.

hey I actually liked Lost in space and as for the movie remake, well I did like the single and who other than Gary Oldman could play Dr Smith well okay a truly scary Dr Smith!

True, Gary Oldman made a better Doctor Smith then the original. [i[Ducks to avoid fireballs lobbed in his direction.[/i]

I'll watch a few more episodes to see if it has any real legs to stand on, but the first episode was a snoozefest.

Don't worry, no one can typo and misspell like you.

WEll, even with them in a Necron ship; I am looking forward to at least the next couple shows; sometimes takes a bit for a show to find its identity; took STNG aboutr 2 years by my reckoning.

I enjoyed it, and my opinion is the only one that matters.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

Finally watchend it last night.

I like it. Dr Rush is shaping up to be if not directly evil, like the Wraith or the Go'uld at least obsessive, manipulative, and evil.

The ancient communication MacGuffin is a nice way to keep them connected while keeping them isolated (if that makes sense).

The geeky kid is supposed to be 'our' (civilians) link to the show, I think. I want him to win the girl though.

Liberty's Edge

Three episodes in, and I like it. Whether it's been done before or not doesn't matter to me, since this iteration is the best I've seen.

I myself am liking it. I do wonder what races or bad guys they will run into.

Spoiler:

we saw a ship leave the main ship, and aliens could have had contact with the drone ships that came before

Spoiler:
I think they have a guardian ancient on board. It could have reanimated the senator’s body and has taken a trip to retrieve the three idiots that whent to another planet, just speculation.

I was not sure if I liked the show after the first one. The second one was much better, I think I will stick with it for now.

Dark Archive

I liked that they are still going to be having trouble with the ship. It would have been really lame if they had fixxed the ship ad then had it turned into the usual sci-fi explore the universe fare. Also loved th dust devil alien that Lt. Scott encountered. Notice that there was nothing said b Col. Young or Gen. O'Neil that contradicts the commnt last week abiout Dr. Rush being in charge, so I presume that he was telling the truth. Looking forward to more episodes andthe promised appeance by Morgan La Fey. She always has the most interesting apperances.
