I am enjoying the show so far, despite the direction HBO is taking things with regards to the "Hey look, we're HBO, we can throw in even MORE T and A!" In the books, G.R.R.M. nailed the perfect amount of sexual content and depravity in order to give the story the requisite gritty, adult feel.

I didn't see Ned and Cat getting it on before they got the message. In the book, they did.

And while I might not be sure, I think the people Bran saw doing it were naked.

So if anything, they're being too tame.

I know its late in the game for this but I can't resist.

He won't beheading it for long.

Kaeyoss: I suspect that the reason we aren't seeing any of the major actors (Ned, Catelyn, Jaime and Cersei) naked is because they have nudity clauses in their contracts. Maybe the producers feel like they have to compensate for that.

Oh, and regarding Ned and Catelyn, in the book the scene takes place after they finished. There was just a nude scene when Cat gets out of bed later that they didn't keep. Again, probably because the actress has got it in her contract.

I haven't been able to watch the show, but I'm glad to hear they captured that essence of his utter creepitude.

Him and Joffrey should totally have a creep-off. I guess Joffrey would win, by virtue of having outlived him, but I think Viserys could still make it a contest.

I read the wiki article on the story.
Lots of spoilers, but i don't care.
The "crowning" sounds very well deserved.

Joffrey is definitely spot-on. Vis I don't quite know. Something seems to be missing. But I could be wrong, and if something is missing, it's not anything very big.

I actually feel the same way about Vis (amd Joffrey for that matter). Currently I attribute it to having seen him for only a small amount of screen time. (He didn't have much of a presence last episode honestly. I only remember the single scene, though I could have missed more I suppose.)

Lena Headey was actually pretty naked in that scene in the tower.

Body double.

Also, the Patriot Games spoiler isn't very effective since we're going in expect GoT spoilers and so would read it and have Patriot Games spoiled. Not that I care personally, but just mentioning.

On Topic: GoT is turning out brilliant and I suggest to anyone who hasn't read the books, that you should stop looking stuff up about it if it isn't too late already. Spoilers would rape the enjoyment of this series. It's like watching a mystery where you know who did it. The twists are some of the best I've ever read/seen.

Just sayin'.

Body double.

Given her long track record of not exactly shying away from nude scenes in the past, I am doubting that.

Edit: I think it may be a moot point. I may be mistaken, but I don't recall her being in any state of undress in that scene.

Moro wrote:

You are correct, she was fully clothed in that scene. I understand that she was pregnant when they were filming.

But considering Cersei's many 'action' scenes later on in the books she will have ample opportunity to take it off if she wants.

I actually thought the TV show overdid the nudity. There's a fair amount of sex and nudity in the books but there's already been a hell of a lot more exposed boobies in the show than in the first several chapters of the book. Just look at Tyrion's first scene (which didn't happen in the book)! Not to mention the lingering examination of Dany's butt and nipple.
I'm glad someone else pointed that out.

I'm fairly sure GRRM wrote a small thing somewhere with the scene that you refer to here. I think it might be up at his site, or perhaps on one of the fan sites with heraldry for some of the little known houses on it. I'm loving the extra boobs, and let's be frank- this series is VERY carnal, if you're offended by the occasional extra boob here and there then how did you handle the book?

Wander Weir wrote:

I'm as fond of the female form as the next guy but it still struck me as gratuitously overdone particularly since it was not at all the same as the book.

Just can't be done- they dont' have enough time to do a 1 to 1. There's going to be a lot changed, I'm looking forward to keeping track instead of bemoaning the changes, which is a welcome change for me. I think they've got a new director for this next set of episodes, so let's see what happens.

KnightErrantJR wrote:

I think there is also a subtle difference between how Tyrion "whores" in the books. Tyrion "plays house" in the book, i.e. he has his woman treat him like he's her one true love and treats her the same, for a while. And he does so because he's sure he will never actually find a woman that loves him for himself.

A lot of Tyrion's development as a character is that he's actually one of the better Lannisters around, but no one sees it because of their assumptions of him being a monster. Even his scene with Jon was less "sympathetic outsider comforting another outsider" and more adversarial and snarky.

It also felt a little wrong to me to have Jaime procure more women for him, given the chip Tyrion still has on his shoulder over past events.

Good points, here. Interesting changes all around. I wonder if this will bite them in the rear in later episodes.

Absolutely.. Peter Dinklage has done an awesome job so far.. I've always admired his ability to, despite his smaller physical stature, command a scene and even intimidate when it's called for. Gotta love this classic scene from Elf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02572EyOIzQ

Hm. I could be wrong, but I thought someone's dress was way up over her hips (if not at an angle to reveal too much).

Maybe Tayleron is right, and it was a body double, unless her co-star is talking about a different scene?

quote at bottom of page

I don't have a link right now, but I've read/heard in a couple interviews by her herself that she used a body double. She was on Craig Ferguson for one, she made a big deal there because Craig was so excited to see her bum. I'll find the other interview I remember in a bit.

EDIT: link to Ferguson interview on Youtube

EDIT2: Can't find other interview. Giving up on that one.

Headey was pregnant during the filming of the pilot, but gave birth a couple of months before Season 1 itself was filmed. A lot of the pilot material was reshot, but that scene (where she and Jaime are discovered by Bran) was one of only three that made it through intact, and she'd decided to have a body double in that scene.

The other two are the scene with Ned and Robert in the crypts under Winterfell and when Robert thanks Ned and they go out hunting. You can see that the Hound has slightly different make-up in the latter scene, whilst Theon's hair is more blonde (he had it darkened for the series itself). Sean Bean's got a slightly different hairstyle as well. Nothing too blatant.

Another interesting factoid is that Episode 2 and the reshot Episode 1 were filmed in the second block of filming. Episodes 3-5 were filmed in the first block. Interesting to see if that has any bearing on performances.

Yeah, episode 4 finally had Ghost in it. People were asking for him quite often - and given the role he's going to play, that's not out of line.

Plus, for those who were concerned: Dany stopped being - how was that term I read? Ah yes - F*ck Cattle. Though she wasn't too cattlish in the third episode, she's officially started the kicking of arse now.

Can't wait to see her have a real go at it.

I agree to an extent with your assessment.

spoiler:
No, that scene didn't occur in the book, nor did the scene with Robert and Cersie, or Joffery and Cersie, from an earlier episode, or the scene with King Robert and Jamie. In the books you only saw things that the POV characters could see, and there was never a moment where a POV character was alone with Ser Lorass and Renly (and where they were being intimate). Most of the scenes that are not in the books are either trying to give the viewer exposition or set up the characters for later. Neither of which the viewer would otherwise see because a lot of this stuff, while apparent in the books, you never actually see in the books it's only mentioned or insinuated by other characters. There's also a bit of character development, primarily trying to give the characters some depth that they otherwise wouldn't have. There's a lot of material in the books that is only given a sentence or two initially, but proves to be very important later on down the line. The series doesn't have that luxury and needs to establish much of this stuff right out of the gate by showing us. It should be interesting, I'm becoming very excited for the next several episodes.

Yeah, having just finished reading the first book, I had realized the same thing about several scenes. They seem to be doing a good job with these scenes of adding to the overall storyline. My one question, however, is this...

Yes, they were gay in the books as well. However, it wasn't as 'in your face' (so to speak) and was handled a lot more subtly through characters making 'certain comments' to or about Renly or Loras.

Not to mention the way Renly never got around to taking Margary's virginity. Their relationship was never openly discussed but it was pretty obvious to me and a lot others I've talked to about the book. On the other hand, I suspect a lot of people never thought to look for it.
