199. Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again. Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the universe than we do now.

200. Sam Beckett (Quantum Leap) "Oh boy."

201. Buckaroo Banzai. All of it.

Y'know what? I don't think I've seen the SINGLE greatest moment EVER in SciFi yet on this list:

Darth Vader: There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you.
[pauses]
Darth Vader: Luke, you do not yet realize your importance. You have only begun to discover your power. Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy.
Luke: I'll never join you!
Darth Vader: If you only knew the power of the Dark Side. Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
Luke: He told me enough! He told me *you* killed him!
Darth Vader: No. *I* am your father.
Luke: No. No. That's not true. That's impossible!
Darth Vader: Search your feelings, you *know* it to be true!
Luke: [anguished] No! No!

Spoiler Omitted!

You know, there really should be a spoiler warning on that. ;)

Really? Even with the Prequels out there where it shows Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader?

;)

And here's a good quote from Cheers:

Woody: How can Darth Vader be Luke Skywalker's father? They don't even have the same last name.

True this needs more Heinlein.

217. The Long Watch: Space suited crew opens a hatch to a nuclear missile warhead storage facility, inside is a corpse surrounded by smoked cigarettes, a hammer, and smashed warheads. Someone says, "We're going to need a lead casket."

218. The Starbeast: The scene of John Thomas riding off to save his pet. Also Lummox demanding that John Thomas and Betty return with her so she keep up her hobby of raising John Thomas'.

219. Starship Troopers: Where Rico has to prove that Men are not equal to potatoes.

220. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress: The Heinlein Maneuver or dropping rocks from the moon onto the earth.

221. Lifeline: The inventor has just determined when the young will die, but won't tell them and tries to keep them in his office. After they leave he looks out the window and watches as a sign falls killing them.

222. "Johnny Mnemonic"
"You see, Molly's been Chiba, too..." snick

+ a million.

And although Heathansson and pres man mentioned "Ringworld" by Larry Niven, no one mentioned the real best idea in it, in my opinion:

223. Ringworld itself. The three-page explanation of the ring around the star provides a perfect example of what makes sci-fi so great.

Is that supposed to be "Page 223." ?

.

And two more ideas from Star Wars:

224. The droids, especially R2-D2. He doesn't look, talk, or act remotely like a human being. He is truly an alien machine.

225. The force, and the Jedi knights' use of the force. I'm thinking especially of Obi-Wan, as he appeared in Episode IV: A New Hope. That was CLASSY.

226: Ghostbusters: You told us never to cross the streams!

227: Lensman, final book: Where you find out the entire aim of setting up the Lensmen was to make a psychic weapon out of all of them that was powerful enough to actually kill the whole race of BBEG's in the series...and they succeed in doing so!

228: Concentrate all firepower on the Super Star Destroyer! - wise tactical advice still used today.

229: Heinlein's Battlefield Earth: When the humans manage to trick the enemy into teleporting a nuclear bomb to their homeworld, and it gets set off...and because radioactivity detonates breath-gas, and teleportation swaps breath gas between locations, the chain reaction wipes out the entire alien empire as all the distant worlds doing regular teleport exchanges destroy themselves by literally bringing a radioactive explosion back to themselves.

230: Data: I was tempted, sir.
Picard: For how long?
Data: .01 seconds, sir.
Picard (raises eyebrow).
Data: That's an eternity to an android, sir.

231: The moment in Firefly when they are threatened with destruction by the Federation fleet, and then the whole mass of Ravers comes out of the nebulae behind them...

232: The Millennium Falcon negotiating the superstructure of the second Death Star, exploding the core and then racing the explosion out. Truly epic.

233: The entire episode of the Clone Wars where Mace Windu takes on a robot army basically single handed. I especially love it where he's running on top of the shockwave from the mass driver's impact.

Cop: "Sir, are you classified as 'Human'"?

Corbin Dallas: "Uhhh, nagative, I am a meat popsicle"

Also, this (from Event Horizon):

D.J.: I wasn't going to tell you this. I've been listening to the distress signal, and I, um, think I made a mistake in the translation.

[Plays the distress signal]

Miller: Go on.

D.J.: I thought it said "liberate me" - "save me." But it's not "me." It's "liberate tutame" - "save yourself." And it gets worse.

[Plays the distress signal again]

D.J.: There - I think that says "ex inferis." "Save yourself... from hell." Look, if what Doctor Weir tells us is true, this ship has been beyond the boundaries of our universe, of known scientific reality. Who knows where it's been, what it's seen. Or what it's brought back with it.

Miller: From hell.

234. In "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" we see a busy city, with the streets full of cars... in the SKY!!! And the movie gives us a chase scene in it!

235. Arthur C. Clarke's "Rendezvous With Rama" describes the most awe-inspiring alien spacecraft I've ever "seen".

WE ARE GROOT

237 "Childhood's End" - by Arthur C. Clarke, when humans finally learn why they fear the Devil

238 Babylon 5 - Sheridan goes to Zha'hadum

239 Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - the death of Spock

(And another vote for the death of Roy Batty. I don't think I'll ever be over that moment.)

I'm probably going to get skewered for this (since so many hate this movie), but...

240. Star Trek V. Best line in the entire movie

Bones: God, I liked him better before he died!

241 - Count Zero by William Gibson: “And, for an instant, she stared directly into those soft blue eyes and knew, with an instinctive mammalian certainty, that the exceedingly rich were no longer even remotely human.”

Hey, I just cited a Star Wars prequel movie (after much hesitation and nervousness, believe me!)

242 - I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

243 (Because I am Muad'Dib) - I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone I will turn and face fear's path, and only I will remain.

Whoops, Hubbard/Serenity/Alliance, and hey it was multiple nebulas! Right?- is correct. I count myself lucky just remembering the Titles sometimes, actually!

Cetaganda: When Lord X curses Lord Vorpatril for outmaneuvering him at every turn.

Memory: Fishing by detonating ammo in a fuzzy state of mind.

Komarr: "When are we going to use my plan B for solving the crisis, Lord Vorkosigan?"

The Vor Game: "You got ONE job to handle, Miles. What was it?"

Cetaganda: "I don't think the kitten was ripe yet, Ivan."

Barrayar: "No. Come to think of it, I don't think I have any use for you at all, Count Vordarian."

Excuse my paraphrasing them.
