I had figured that you would be coming back so I wasn't going to replace you but I thought that getting you guys a leader character might not be a bad idea since you have no other roles now besides striker and defender. I actually feel like Aglaeca fits the bill for a tiefling and I wouldn't expect less of him. I have no intention to tell any of you to change your characters, after all this is your game just as much as it is mine. If you all feel comfortable without a healer then that is totally fine with me. I just wanted to see how you guys felt.
Aglaeca- Striker
Chorro- Striker
Dran- Defender
Karn- Striker
Sturdy- Defender
If you guys feel good going forward then we will, I'd rather not delay the game anymore unless you guys want to make some changes.

Chorro is a Leader, not a striker, and should be able to keep folks healed, unless I just suck at healing ;)

bmars3 |

Sturdy will take a multiclass feat to help out with healing as well.
Logos, I really like Aglaeca and everything we have going here. I think he's a hilarious character. You have done nothing wrong and I thought the roleplaying was great. I can't wait until it's my turn to mix it up with Aglaeca, even though I will get trounced in the intelligence department.
This wasn't the first time Jacob Lewis was upset with the group, maybe he was looking for a way out. Some people set out to fulfill their own worries. You and your character have to be flexible when playing by post because you're playing with 6 strangers who all have different amounts of time they can put into the game and differing reasons for playing. You have to be way more flexible and Jacob Lewis/Marcus didn't want that. He took his ball and went home. The good news is we have more balls! I wouldn't be surprised to see him pop back up in the forums saying how he tried 4e but it just didn't allow him to roleplay effectively, rubbish.
As for Cacaphonik/Chorro, not a problem, we can help Dm Nixon run Chorro when you are busy. You see how helpful we all can be if we're flexible? Game on...

Jacob Lewis |

Last night, I was feeling rather good about myself thinking I had handled this situation maturely and without causing any conflict. I intentionally did not give any specific reasons to avoid offending anybody or starting up any drama. There was no need for either since my mind was already made up.
I've resisted making a few comments since that time, but things have been changing quickly. I wanted to leave on good terms with everybody, but judging by the recent comments being made, the feeling does not appear to be mutual. I don't know why anybody thinks I wouldn't check back, but either they didn't think or they didn't care. Maybe it was foolish to believe that some of you might be capable of showing a little more class or maturity when I thanked everyone and left peacefully, but I might actually be an optimist at heart.
As far as I'm concerned, the only reason I don't continue to make any specific remarks to anyone, aside from it being a waste of time, is out of respect for DM Nixon. Unlike any of you who've had an opportunity to post since last night, he was the only one that bothered to say anything nice when I left. My reasons for leaving are my own, and there is no reason for any of you to continue speculating on the matter.
I can honestly say that this is the first time since joining the game that I am really disappointed by this group of players. I'm a little sad, and a little hurt to learn how you all must have really thought of me but never had the courage to say anything all this time. I apologize for bringing my standards to the group, but I do not apologize for having standards.
One more thing. If you're going to continue posting your opinions about me, expect me to be reading them. You can also expect that I will not allow any further comments to go ignored. Despite anything else I may be feeling, I've been getting more and more pissed off every time I read something new here. Consider yourself warned, gentlemen. Or the gloves will come off.

Cacophonik |

Consider yourself warned, gentlemen. Or the gloves will come off.
Or what? Gonna come to my house and rough me up with uber-RP? Rebuke me with scathing messageboard vituperation so vexing that I pee my pants? (assuming I wear pants when I sit down to post...)
You roleplayed Marcus extremely well, I thought. He was an interesting, well-fleshed out character with a strict code that made him fairly inflexible and hard to adventure with, since your last ultimatum struck me as being a "my way or the highway" sort of deal. <shrugs> Not sure how much of his attitude came from you and how much came from the character, nor do I really care at this point.
I figure your reason for leaving was because you're currently enrolled in the same adventure over at myth-weavers, and didn't want to spoil our fun by winning the adventure singlehandedly. I might be wrong though.
Mark me down as being as disappointed with your last post as you were with ours, and go ahead and drop those gloves. Let's see what you've got, mister.
PS: My answer was "I didn't care."

Jacob Lewis |

And why should I care what you think, Cacophonik? I apologized to you earlier even though I was never responsible for your feelings, but your only reaction was to disappear on everybody, not unlike a pouting little child might do. And now you're going to swoop in like the conquering hero and defend the group that you've been largely ignoring since June 9? My disappointment in you began several weeks ago. I no longer care about what you think, much less about your excuses. Much like the last month since you've been keeping silent, you will find yourself to be irrelevant in this conversation.
I already suspected my presence was keeping you away for some reason, but don't flatter yourself. I'm not buying your reasons of a "paradigm" as an excuse not to find two minutes in the last 23 days to let somebody know anything about what is going on with you. You have no right to sit here and judge anything I've done recently when you've been waiting for your moment, not breathing so much as a word to anyone who may have been counting on you to participate in the game in whatever limited capacity you are capable of mustering. Personally, I don't see why everyone seems so eager to take you back, but it really doesn't matter. They're probably going to see this as an opportunity to attack me again, but at least this time they will do it directly.
I didn't come here to issue threats. They're pointless if all anyone can do is post messages. But words can still hurt. They can also affect other emotions, and they can disrupt the focus and make people want to stay away from threads. I hope your friends appreciate your efforts in continuing to provoke me without even given them any consideration. But then again, that seems to be the preferred mentality of this group.

You're right. I have been deliberately lurking in the shadows of the archived posts, waiting for this one golden opportunity to leap upon your words like an avenging angel... lol. I'll send that "don't flatter yourself" right back atcha, sirrah.
I've severely curtailed my posting in two other games I play in, and the one I DM for the last month - I'm surprised you failed to mention that, since you did such thorough research on my recent whereabouts...
Anyways, you've left; have fun. I'm pleased, and shall attempt the same.

I hope your friends appreciate your efforts in continuing to provoke me without even given them any consideration.
Hey Jacobs, last time I looked it took two to tango. Its great to say that your gonna keep lurking if we keep talking about you, but really
Why are you still posting?

bmars3 |

I'll back Cacaphonik because I know this isn't his first pbp game. I'm fairly new at this but I also have a life that sometimes doesn't allow me post daily or even for a whole week. If Chorro left and never returned I wouldn't care, it's a pbp, it's a game, who cares? We would've just found someone else to fill in.
Playing DnD is about characters cooperating as well as people, and by cooperation I don't mean characters getting along. Conflict between PC's isn't a reason to leave, it's a great part of a fantasy game. Friends gathered around the gaming table pretending to dislike each other but working together to kill Dragons, it's the classic elf/dwarf conflict. It's a theme in tons of movies, good cop/bad cop. What fun would LotR be if Gimley took his axe and went home because he thinks elves smell like goat cheese?
I really think you(Jacob Lewis) got involved in this knowing you would throw a fit and write big diatribes about RPing and gaming, creating a self fulfilling prophecy. People love to do this and feel self-important.
I wrote this for you(Jacob Lewis) to read, that's the sole purpose of forums.

bmars3 |

For Example, this pbp game linked below hasn't even made it past the first page and the PC's are already about to throw down with each other...well I'm sure they are fuming and arguing with each other about how their characters can't fulfill their predetermined roles in the discussion thread and at least one is going to quit the game...What? They are laughing and having fun with it? They obviously don't know how to play DnD let alone play a social game. They must stick with predetermined RP guidelines for their characters and never waiver because we all know people in the real world are never fickle. Also when my PC loses HP, I run myself through with kitchen knives or headbutt brick walls depending on the weapon type.

Jacob Lewis |

Why are you still posting?
Why am I not allowed to expect the same courtesies I've been extending everyone else? Why am I the only one who feels like he's been struggling to keep everyone happy? Why am I being treated like the bad guy in all of this? Why should I be the only one to ignore anything negative that people want to say about me? Why do I need to explain why I left the game? Why does everybody think they know me so well because they've seen other people post in games before? Why am I still expecting that one of you is actually going to make an apology or even just a nice comment to send me on my way?
And why are you asking me why am I still posting? Answer the first few questions and you might understand why.

Jacob Lewis |

bmars, just shut up already. I don't like people telling me what my own motives are before I've decided to tell them myself. You don't know because I haven't said anything about it, and quite frankly, I feel less inclined to do so the more you continue to speak about it as if you actually had a clue.
Thanks for nothing, by the way.

Cacophonik |

I believe that most of us have complimented you on your roleplaying ability. The way I read your last post made me think that you were waiting for us to start bemoaning our fate now that we are one Jacob Lewis short of a handful.
Sorry. No fawning, no apologies. You figured you had had enough, you left. If you came back hoping to see us begging you to return, I can understand why you were disappointed.
I'm not sure that any of us really care to have your motives explained, even should you deign to offer such tidbits to the humble, pathetic rabble that we are.
Just GTFO already.

bmars3 |

I have made my 2nd level feat selection to multiclass Warlord. So, I can use Inspiring Word once per day and I'm trained in the Heal skill now. I just read up on using the Heal skill First Aid to kick off an adjacent ally's Second Wind with a DC 10 Heal check, never saw this before. I also chose my Utility Power to gain Daily healing on myself.
I think we can go without a controller with all the strikers and defenders marking abilities.

Logos |
Why am I not allowed to expect the same courtesies I've been extending everyone else?
because your not playing anymore and this is a thread for players
Why am I the only one who feels like he's been struggling to keep everyone happy?
I dont know, and your not to kind to attempts to acertain why you feel a certain way.
Why am I being treated like the bad guy in all of this?
Your the guy who huffed and puffed and left rather than talk it out before hand.
Why should I be the only one to ignore anything negative that people want to say about me?
See the first comment about players vs not players in the players thread.
Why do I need to explain why I left the game?
You dont really, trust me, most of us really dont care.
Why does everybody think they know me so well because they've seen other people post in games before?
Probably because you ask leading questions about your internal mental states, see earlier.
Why am I still expecting that one of you is actually going to make an apology or even just a nice comment to send me on my way?
You want an apology? I'm sorry, I hope you do well in whereever your going.
And why are you asking me why am I still posting? Answer the first few questions and you might understand why.
There they are answered, and probably with less snark than you deserve.
I'm glad to see that someone else is multying leader, We're controller free but with practically two of everything else it shouldn't be an issue so much.
Still no Karn/Dran, I hope this foolishness with jacob is not scaring them away.

DM Nixon |

Alright, this is an issue that I feel has gone on in this thread long enough. It is a shame that it couldn't all be worked out as a group, I'm glad that I've had the chance to game with him and that I have the chance to continue with all of you. If Jacob feels this isn't the game for him than it should be simple as that. He moves on, we move forward. No big drama needed.
I'm glad to see the characters updated and you guys are looking at the options to keep yourselves alive. :). We should be ready to move forward through the adventure now.
Who is using the DDI builder?

Nasserath |

good grief... sorry for taking so long to post been busy with work / life / holiday / and playing catch up on the thread...
I for one, and I mean no offense to anyone in any way shape or form, dont care who leaves and goes or stays... its a game first and foremost and thats the nature of playing in a pbp. I like the inter party strife it does add more of a chance to rp... and if someone does disappear for awhile without notice it can slow the game down for everyone else but its not the end of the world.... again its just a game meant to have fun thats all i have to say about that....
DM in response no i dont have DDI...

No worries, anyone who doesn't have it I'll just go ahead and manually build your characters in mine so I have them on hand.

Paging Chorro, Dran and Karn. I understand if things are busy IRL just looking for a heads up on whether or not you guys plan on continuing here. I can always have your characters go somewhere that we can retrieve them when you are ready to come back if you need some time. Hoping for a response by the end of the week or weekend.

![]() |

I am opening up the game for new players to fill in, I will find a nice spot for chorro, dran and karn should they return
Thanks for the invite!
It may take me a few days to get a character together. What level will I be starting at, and what guidelines should I use for wealth? Also, what is the makeup of the party, and is there anything I should be aware of thematically?
Thanks!

Still around, but very sparsely. My daughter is just learning to crawl and my wife is on end-of-fiscal-year overtime for the next three weeks, meaning I'm pretty much screwed as far as sit-down computer time.

I totally understand, its rough when they start crawling fast haha. I just didn't want the game to fall through since its my first pbp dming game I wanted to try to make it a little further. If there isn't room when you are able to come back and post, I am planning on running a War of the Burning Sky campaign which I will give you a free pass into if you're interested.

DM Nixon |

Ok so! the players
Aglaeca- Tiefling Warlock
Sturdy- Goliath Warden
Karn- Half-Elf Rogue
The events:
The town of Winterhaven has been having kobold issues and Lord Padraig has been essentially waiting around for someone above and beyond his militia to come help with this issue. The adventurers who have come into this town for an other reason have signed up to help him out.
A couple of days ago when they approached what was believed to be a kobold lair they were met up by a Purple Dragon Knight of Cormyr by the name of Aenos Mar. She and her men had dispatched of the Kobolds and left a few artifacts in the hands of the party. They informed her of their secret search for a death cult of Shar in the town.
And while, having no real means to send a large bit of help, Aenos said she would try to send someone to help.
This is how I would like to introduce you guys into the party.
You don't have to have known her for a while, you could even just be a traveling mercenary who happened across her convoy, or maybe you are an old friend, however works for you guys.
The current happening is that Sturdy, Karn and Aglaeca are in the streets of winterhaven at night staging and offensive on Bairwin's shop.

Aldric Casternall |

I'm ready to go minus the background. Your resident servant of Amaunator. I was told that my grandfather was in Sembia a hundred years ago so I have a little justice for the Church of Shar.
Awesome. Two servants of Amaunator. My stats are ready to go as well, minus background.

DM Nixon |

Stat-wise everything looks good minus a couple of things,
Aldric
For your defenses you left out an additional +1 to each Fort, Ref, and Will for being human, also I need you to pick a level 2 ritual to add to your book.
Quinn
I didn't see the rituals you chose on your profile, you should have 3 total. Two for first level (One being bard as a prerequisite) and then one for level 2 (Free)
Verjack
In your profile you have your STR set to 10, I'm assuming it's meant to be 13? You had some points left over once I ran it through the DDI builder but 13 made your fort def match up
I have all of your characters in my character builder now for ease of quick info.

Quinn Ardensier |

My mistakes are now fixed.
EDIT: Writing my background now. To summarize it, the aforementioned Purple Dragon Knight saved his life at one point, some events happen to give him his current philosophy on fate, he takes up wandering, runs into the knight, she asks him if he could help, he agrees because she saved his life, it's the least he could do.

DM Nixon |

My Con is 13 so that should take care of my FORT. For stats I just used the table in the PHB; Do I still have points left?
Ahh ok cool that works out then, I knew it was one of the two
DM - I have corrected my defenses and added a ritual. Thanks for catching that!
Yup no worries! I know usually I miss stuff when I build a character so it's always nice to go through with each other and work it out.
Can't wait to see everyone's backgrounds, Quinn that sounds good!
