The Road From Highmoon Discussion

Play-by-Post Discussion

1 to 50 of 109 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

This is the discussion thread for the Forgotten Realms PBP campaign starting with an adaptation of "Keep on the Shadowfell"

Please check in your characters here and feel free to chat and discuss how you all are acquainted. I would much rather have common links then just a random encounter.

My best suggestion is that each of you tie yourselves to two others of you.

I hope to have the game up and running by monday or tuesday, I know it's a holiday this weekend so a lot of you may not be around but we'll see what we can work out.

Male Razorclaw Shifter Shaman 1

Chorro pauses, nostrils flaring, and sinks to his haunches . "Bah. First ones here, we be." He looks to the ghostly cougar-spirit as it settles comfortably beside him, tail a-twitch. "Same as ever, eh?"

His long-fingered hands absently trace symbols in the earth, as he closes his green eyes to mere slits, leans back against a mossy tree trunk and awaits the others.

Profile needs filling in, but that'll have to wait til tomorrow, I am afraid. I am open to any ideas you may have as far as background placement, DM, since I am not a student of the realms.

For Chorro

"Grand Duke Valarken used a band of lycanthropes known as the Band of the Red Moon to try and seize complete control of the city. He was defeated by the current Grand Duke Portyr who subsequently dissolved the Council of Four and replaced it with a parliament. Some time in this period the Flaming Fists, formerly a mercenary force, became the official militia of the city-state"
Also,
Werewoods (which are outside baldur's gate)
"It is said that after Grand Duke Valarken’s failed coup, he and his
lycanthropic mercenaries fled into this forest. Many believe that the group has begun rebuilding the city of Vehlarr in an attempt to refashion the former werewolf nation."

Basically what I'm going to use for the sake of our story is that Baldur's gate is now heavily guarded against lycanthropes and shifters alike, with the overpopulation from the spellplague refugees it is just easier to lump the two separate species together and keep them all out. which can be where Chorro hails from.

Feel free to bounce any ideas off of me

Aglaeca is a talented adventurer, Arcanist, and Linguist looking to work to further his own studies, (which will culminate with the destruction of the 9 hells, and the rescuing of his sister's soul).

Aglaeca is somewhat frumpy and dour, but friendly and earnest.

So who wants to be my friend.

Chorro has certainly met you before, and remembers you - the smell of tiefling is not an easy one to forget. The spirits tell him you shall need his help one day...

Just FYI - I do not generally post much on weekends, as family consumes the bulk of my time then.

No worries, I understand how that is.

Male Human Invoker 2

The road from Impiltur has been a long one, but Marcus refused to show any signs of weariness in either his step or his look. He eyed the sign above the doorway, looking for something significant in the words or the image of "The Gilded Lady". Nothing came to him, though. It was only another tavern along the way. He hoped that his journey was still on the right path to leading him to find a savior for fallen Impiltur. Perhaps someone inside...

Marcus gripped the flame-embroidered staff tighter, feeling the warmth from the flames of battle spread into his body. Tempus confirmed that he was still following his destiny. Gathering his red cloak over his finely-meshed chainmail, Marcus glanced around for his companions.

The dark elf was a fine warrior, but preferred the shadows nearly as much as the rogue. Such an odd pair to be travelling together, he admitted, but it was no less strange than his compulsion to join them in their travels. Neither was likely to be the one which he sought, but they both proved effective in a fight. The Lord of Battles had definately shown him the way to find worthy companions. Now he just needed to lead him to the one who will save his beloved homeland.

Shaking his head, Marcus cast aside any doubts, knowing that the pair would catch up to him in their own good time, and stepped into the noise and warmth of the tavern.

Anything you want to add to this, DM?

I don't know if Marcus would be already acquainted with either Chorro or Aglaeca, but I'm assuming someone will be able to bring the two groups together. I'll leave that ball for someone else to run with.

Male Drow Fighter 2

Everything looks good so far and all but two are checked in, can't wait to get started. As soon as the others get here and you can all make some more connections, I'll get you some more info and we can get to rolling!

Male Human Anti-Paladin (Lord of Darkness) / 1

Karn had never been the type to travel with others unless he absolutely had to. Whether that was the case know or not, the two bit swindelr had no idea. However, when one finds themselves facing either fleeing your home or finding yourself the victim of one of the most ruthless thugs in the city, one often does things that they might not usually do. So when Karn found out some Invoker was looking for a guide to Highmoon, Karn put on his best smile and spun a nice tale that soon had him traveling with the man to Highmoon.

The rather human looking half elf was making his way to the Gilded Lady, where he had agreed to meet with Marcus after he had taken care of his own things. Once he arrived, he entered to find Marcus already arrived, however, he had not yet spotted the odd pairing of the Drow and Shifter who they had stumbled across during the trip to Highmoon. Making his way to the table, Karn takes a seat and orders a drink to have something to occupy his hands while they waited for the others to show up.

I've got to rework the background, but other than that, Karn should be rady to go.

Male Human Invoker 2

Marcus stood up when Karn finally arrived, gesturing to the empty seats surrounding the large table in the middle of the dining area of the tavern. "I hope the others arrive soon," he remarked as he took his seat once more. "The owner seems to be growing anxious. I'm sure this is one of his best tables and I've been doing my best to convince him that everyone would be arriving soon and ordering from his less-than-savory menu." Gripping his flame-etched staff, he leaned in and added, "Tempus willing, that mutton he's had warming in the back for the last day or so will not be our greatest challenge today."

Male Razorclaw Shifter Shaman 1

Wrinkling his broad nose against the overwhelming rankness of stale beer, stale flesh, stale hearts and stale lives, Chorro enters the building that the townsfolk call the Gilded Lady.

His eyes rove the room, assessing, searching. They soften momentarily as they fall upon the familiar face of the human Karn, who claims he bears elven blood. Chorro can smell the fey on him, but it is faint, oh so faint.

Shrugging, the shifter approaches, his glare warding off the approaching servant. "Here be Chorro, who hopes he mustn't remain in this city much longer."

He sits, nodding briefly at the other figure. "Child of Tempus." is all he says by way of greeting.

Male Human Invoker 2

Marcus blinked at the shifter's feral words, and maybe something else.

"Child of Tempus," he chuckled, rubbing his chin as if seriously contemplating something. "I don't think I've heard that one before. But then again, I don't think I've ever encountered a creature such as yourself, either. Perhaps, one day, I'll explain to you why that term amuses me. But for now, you may call me Marcus."

looks pretty good so far I'm gonna go over everyones stuff one more time once our goliath warden is checked in and then ill put a game thread up, you'll all be gathered at one table in the middle of the gilded lady having drinks. feel free to save up the rp til we begin :). glad to see it in the group already

"Perhaps one day Chorro will listen," the shifter grunts, eyes flickering restlessly around the room. "Aglaeca should hurry."

I got a lot of RP to burn, so don't worry about me running out. I'm already anxious to get this going. ;)

Male Human Anti-Paladin (Lord of Darkness) / 1

Ok, History is now updated and magic item has been picked, Karn Lathern is ready to roll!!

I know I didn't tell you before, but Karn doesn't actually know he is half elven. His ears look like scarred human ears, the result of a deed done by his "parents" to hide his true origins from him. In almost all ways he acts human, though a shifters sharp senses would definately pick out something fey like about the nimble man.

LOL! Well, just disregard the first bit about claiming elven blood, and we'll be golden! That's uncanny :)

Male Tiefling Warlock 2

Aglaeca slumps into the bar, his brown hair disheveled, smudged with soot and smelling of Lamp Oil over the tangy sent of hellfire that seemed to purposefully invade the nose of anyone who came close, as if to verify that it was infact a Tiefling infront of you.

"Ah, Chorro, Nice to see you again, looks like a bit of a fire down the road, Secret Basement cult or something of the like. Looks like a bad time to be worshipping orcus or whatever."

Seeing the other's Aglaeca bows meekly and mumbles "Aglaeca, Linguist, pleased to meet you" before wandering off to get a pint that he promptly hides his face with but does not drink"

In the distance in the Thick Glass at the inn, a lurid red glow can be seen.

(Don't know if im overstepping my boundries, but as this is a sort of build up to the real thing, we'll see how it goes. )

Everyone's profiles look good, I went ahead and built your characters in my DDi character builder so I can have all the character sheets ready here.

Aglaeca:

Spoiler:

Could you put which powers you picked up on your profile?

DM Nixon wrote:

That thing is a godsend - I use it for that purpose in the game I run here, cuz 11th level is alotta stuff to cram in a profile!

Lol it really is.

Game thread is up HERE We'll get some IC actions going while we wait for our last player

My Profile has been updated with powers.

Male Goliath Warden 7

I am closer to being ready as well. I will pick powers tonight. Pay no attention to the powers and a few other things in my profile as they were copied from another PC.

Karn, everything alright with you? I posted again for you to hit our 24 hour mark. hope all is well.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd like it if you all would post an item wishlist on here for me. Thanks :)

Sure. What levels are you looking for, exactly? An item for every level? Three items up to level X? Some specifics would be appreciated.

Well this adventure should take you to level 3-4 so I'd like to see some items up to level 5. I don't need a whole huge list but just throw in a few things that you would like to get for your character in these early levels.

Marcus Armethal's Wishlist
Staff of the War Mage +1 (Level 3)
Staff of Storms +1 (Level 5)

Astral Fire Armor +1 (Level 2)
Enduring Spirit Vestments +1 (Level 2)

Flame Bracers (Level 3)
Gem of Colloquy (Level 3)
Cloak of Resistance +1 (Level 2)
Ornament of Alertness (Level 3)
Cloak of Distortion +1 (Level 4)
Battle Standard of Healing (Level 3)
Battle Standard of Might (Level 4)

Bag of Holding
Maybe some residium and ritual books if your into that sort of thing(i was thinking of taking ritual caster next level )
Things to make the magic go stronger/harder/faster, but I already have a +1 rod so its probably out of range for the +2 rod of awesomeness.

Male Human Anti-Paladin (Lord of Darkness) / 1

Ok, I'll try to keep it short and sweet:

Level 1: +1 dagger
Level 2: Acrobat Boots
Level 3: +1 Sylvan Leather Armor, +1 Safewing Amulet
Level 5: Bag of Holding

I want to apologize for the lack of posting, it has indeed been hectic here in the real world, what with finals and other plans. I have thinned out the number of games that I am currently in and will be posting at a more regular rate. Again I apologize and hope to keep playing in this great game.

Good luck on your finals, Dathom. Glad to hear from you, and I, for one, appreciate the sacrifice of cutting out a few extra games and sticking with us, though I wouldn't have thought less if you had left this game. What matters is that you've made a choice and that you've dedicated yourself to a smaller number of games that will fit into your own personal schedule (but I'm glad you're still with us... I'm waiting to see more from Karn!).

Now that DM Nixon is enforcing a 24 hour limit, things should go a lot smoother for everyone. I think it's the right call for the DM to make, and I have no objections about having my character controlled if I happen to be absent at some point. If you miss a turn, it's no big deal. We probably should have decided something like this a while ago.

I think we have a good group here, including a good DM with a good game going. My apologies to anyone who may have felt they were being singled out or that my remarks were 'snarky' (the new hot-word for forum posts, apparently). That wasn't my intent, and I did state that I wasn't looking to point blame or fingers at anyone. We were all responsible for letting it happen and not saying anything about it sooner. My comments were meant for the group as a whole, and if that happened to spark 5+ new posts from more than 50% of the group in a single day after a week of non-activity, then I will accept looking like the antagonist on this one where nobody else was willing to stand up and say something.

But the last thing I want to do is open a rift between anybody, especially if we're to continue playing together. So, Cacophonik, please accept my sincerest apologies for having offended you. What I do, I do for the benefit of the group. It certainly would not feel the same without Chorro leading this pack with his quiet wisdom and spirit friend to aid us.

I do not think any further discussion on the issue is necessary. It seems we've established more firmly posting deadlines and that we all do want to be here. I don't want any chastising in the game and like I said, it seems like the issue has been resolved by setting a more firm post time limit before I will DMPC a character. I'm also working on making a pdf file of everyone's character sheet's so I can share that with you guys as well so you can help run each other characters.

Male Human Anti-Paladin (Lord of Darkness) / 1

Just to let you all know that I have vecation time coming up soon, as such, from June 25th to about July 6th, I will probably not be able to post. I might have internet access, if that is the case then I will try to find time to post, but that might not be entirely possible.

Hey Chorro, you still with us bud?

Hey Guyz, if I'm being too much let me know. I enjoy the bickering but I dont want to drown out everyone else.

Thanks

Also Choorrooo

I think im gonna need some friends soon ><

Male Goliath Warden 7

No, it's good RP on both sides. I just don't think Sturdy is in either of your leagues when it comes to brains or arguing skill. He will however jump in to break it up should it com to blows.

Well I wish the guy would have taken the moment to come here and talk about stuff rather than huffing about his character.

So where are we Dm nixon? If I'm the problem, let me know, I'm not aiming to ruin your game. But you know talking is the first step to resolving if you get what im saying.

I'm not sure what the issue is but It seems to me like he just felt like he wasn't able to play the role he wanted in the group. The better people to ask are your companions moreso than I. I thought it was just dynamics between you guys. we will need to recruit since we are at 2 defenders and 3 strikers, though chorro is missing too. everyone's thoughts?

Missing = absolutely totally and suddenly swamped with freelance work thru this weekend - apologies for my lack of notification, but it's been a longish two weeks in these parts. :(

I must admit that Jacob/Marcus had a little to do with my willingness to not find time to check in - while he roleplayed Marcus very well, he made it hard to coexist with a party given the needs of the paradigm.

Anyhow, that aside... I can't at this point promise to be a daily poster - if you're still willing to have me despite that, I am still pleased to play. Just let me know - y'all are fun company, and DM Nixon is doing an admirable job, IMO. :)

By the way, Aglaeca, Chorro agrees with you re: the goat cheese.

well, if it will magically fix the problem, I can have my guy ride off into the sunset as easily as anyone else.

As for fixing the problem, A new player wouldn't be horrible but 5 people is not impossible. If we need to reassign roles more than get new people, and the group is tired of aglaeca, I can ride off into the sunset and reroll something less, I dont know, full of character grim darkness from grim darknia.

That said, Do we have 5, I only remember me , marcus, dran, and sturdy from the last little bit, but I know some people were out of town persay, so the gm would know better than I.

If you all were looking for an idea of what I would replace agglaeca with, I dunno. Maybe an apprentice Human Wizard of Valathun's who being sick of waiting for the elf to decide he is 'ready' to do the cool stuff, has decided to head out in search of adventure. I'm open to suggestions however if it comes to that.

Logos wrote:

I don't see any problem with Aglaeca, really. It looks to me like Jacob has already left, so I see no reason to consider retiring another character. Just my 2 cents, of course...

If the Dm is willing, some of us could change our level 2 feat choices to leader/healer multiclasses?

Isn't shaman a leader? They do healing with some options no?

Chorro is a Leader and can heal, yes.
