Fact - Umber Hulk best (get no respect monster ever) Who's with me!?!

General Discussion (Prerelease)

I am completely and totally Pro Umber Hulk. I think for too long this quality monster has not been given it's Kudos (not the delicious snack). If you agree say so, If you disagree make me believe your argument.

Most entertaining rhetorical move ever: When people begin threads, posts, or books with "Fact:"
;)

Well WOC seemed to really love them they didnt put them in the OGL so they are only theres

Did I fail to mention my love for umber hulks? I plan to paint all the shadow hulks that come my way umber. Fact: Umber hulks do not need to be shadowized.

Fact - I don't want to think about how exactly one loves an umber hulk. Maybe that's a special effect of their confusion gaze...

Close-minded so-and-so...

Dark Archive

The Ochre Hulk and the Sienna Hulk totally kick the Umber Hulk's butt, much in the way that Grey Hulk is cooler than Green Hulk, Red Hulk or Paisley Hulk.

But if I were gonna go all 'Fact! Best. Ever.' on a beastie that WotC kept IP, it would be the Displacer Beast. I love those freaky things.

I'm not convinced, Set. And surely the Mauve Hulk deserves a mention at least.
Troubling question: Why do we so infrequently see displacers with hot drow chicks?

I HATE WOTC, THEY HAVE BROKEN MY HEART TOO MNAY TIMES! what monsters are in the OGL. I need to find a new Fave.

Wait to see the new Pathfinder Bestiary. I bet we get some new favorites outta Paizo, even if they're old ones shined up.

You are so right. I LOVE YOU PAIZO! WHne does the bestiary come out?

but seriously what monsters are part of the OGL?

July. Coincidentally, the same month my birthday is in...

And how! I love the purple squid kitty. The great equalizer, it doesn't matter how high your attack bonus is, you'll still miss 50% of the time. Muwhahaha!

especially since they took the idea from a comic (a scan of it is in one of the early blog posts I think)

OK so I was looking at the SRD, and WOTC took ALmost all the good ones! I am not even sure I can find a new one to support.

Yeah, they held some of the classic favorites back. But take a look at the various threads on the Pathfinder Bestiary. I always get excited looking at the back-and-forth over monsters loved, scorned, and overlooked.

I am currently backing the Rust Monster Ticket, but i will take your advice...

Now I am still supporting rust monster remix, and suggesting Ewoks...:)

I'm more of an owl bear kind of guy myself

I like Umber Hulks, they were one of my Transmuter's forms of choice. Plus their chitinous exoskeleton is shiny and can be repainted to reflect your mood.

I still can't finish reading for one reason or another Monsters Revisited, but currently my new favorite is the Bugbear.

I like Umber Hulks when you top them with one of my favorite evil races the Neogi. Like a D&D Master/Blaster combo.

Huh. I devoured CMR. But if you meant by "can't finish":"can't stop rereading," that I understand. If the OP hasn't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it. Owl bears, rust monsters...this is sounding like the next CMR that is on tap after Dragons Revisited.

Tweaking them to be even more like this combo could be neat. The chitinous back armor of the 'Tunnel Hulk' could have slits into which the legs of the Neogi could slide, anchoring it to it's host and allowing it direct control of it's actions, turning it into a giant organic 'exoskeleton' for the neogi rider, who also feeds parasitically from the Umber Hulks body. The Umber Hulk would appear mostly the same, due to the smaller size of the Neogi, only with two spider-like arms waving up over it's shoulders, and a single eel-like head rising up as well. The bulk of the Neogi's body would be pressed up against the Hulk's body and appear as a 'hunch.'

The Neogi would have the option of having the Hulk attack physically, while it waves it's little spider arms around from it's shoulders and throws low-level Sorcerer spells or something...

(And it wouldn't have to be specifically an Umber Hulk / Neogi thing, the concept could be adapted to some sort of underwater version of an Aranea, more spellcasting jellyfish than spider, that parasitically / symbiotically fuses to the armored back of a specially-modified species of giant crab that it uses as host, armor and 'mount,' for instance. The boneless jellyfish would otherwise not be able to leave the ocean, but carried by their giant crab 'mounts' they can terrorize coastal villages with the best of them! Even something that *appears* to be a Drider might turn out to be a specially created Spider that partially swallows a Dark Elf, so that it appears to be a centauroid creature, but is actually just a freakish form of mount!)

Because they never come out of the pleasure dome?

Any combination of lame animal and wicked predator gets my vote. Owlbear, ducksnake, pengwolf, rabbitlion...it's all good.

This thread needs more flailsnail.

Mmmhmm.

Flail. Snail.

Don't forget the beaverpanther and the mooseshark ...

It strikes me that the mooseshark would be a truly dangerous animal. Head of a great white shark and body of a 2000lb elk? Even the reverse is startling. Almost as bad as a leechmonkey. ;)

That's it. I now have a desire to use fiendish leechmonkeys in my next session...

You're a sick, sick man. :) I like it!

(edit) Chokers with blood drain would be a good starting point, stat wise.

How about the protien polymorph? You know it's good to eat, cause it's high in protien!

Joelf, can I have a Pengwolf for Christmas?

I just checked the dungeon; we're all out. Sorry :( Can I interest you in a nice goosepoodle?

You know what a great show for mix and match animals is Avatar the last airbender. I think their Badgerfrog, and their Mole badger are super cool..

Did Gygax steal the flail snail from The Electric Company?
Yeah, I got a kick out of the monsters in the Avatar. What have you give me lately, Nickelodeon? Bupkis.

I have to be honest it took me at least 12 times to read rabbitlion as rabbit lion. I was like rabbitilion, rabbitillo waht combo is that...Oh!

Dark Archive

After the Sea Lion turned out to be a fish with a lion's front-quarters, I think they should make an Ant Lion that travels in a hive mind pack and appears as a six-legged acid-spitting lion with antenna and chitinous armor plates.

And Tiger Lilies should totally bite people's fingers off.

As opposed to the Lilytiger, which is pretty, but lame.

Dude, the combo is one harmless with one ferocious. Which is the harmless and which the ferocious jelly fish sting and crabs have menacing claws...ooh scary

However, I would like to offer the Badgertrout

As an expert in this field it is definitely Ponycuda, and the plural ponycudii. Glad to be of service.

Yeah but flumphs can fly and like salt, not salt water. I was thinking a disgusting highly-intellegent Portugese Man-O-War jellyfish with a NE outlook and a rasher of offensive arcane spells that casts Watery air on itself and mounts its trusty Giant Dire Poisonclaw Spidercrab to indulge in a little payback on Timmy the peasant boy who ran along the beach and jabbed sharp sticks into its children who washed ashore at high tide.

Stands in awe, and is a little frightened...(I know Timmy)

That's hot.

I want stats for these. Undersea communities full of them. Alien cities of living coral, lit by bioluminescent bacteria, swarming with intelligent evil jellyfish, some 'free-ranging,' others 'mounted' in their giant spider-crabs...
