Not sure what we would have done had that happened.

From the FAQ:
Can I resubmit an item from last year?
Provided the item was not selected for the Top 32 last year, you can choose to resubmit it for this year's contest. The judges have long memories, however, and are probably not likely to advance an item that they passed on last year. Your best bet is likely to create an entirely new item specifically for this year's contest.
Because the items were selected to be in the top 32 and then disqualified, wouldn't they fall in the above category (you may not resubmit top 32 material)?

I did do that. But it was too late, because the word-count revelation came out after the judging had begun. I guess it was ruled we couldn't edit them or something. Oh, well.

If an item was disqualified from the top 32, it wasn't in the top 32, so it could be resubmitted. Right?

Clark meant he was surprised you didn't do it this year—he wasn't talking about last year. Nobody's allowed to edit their submission for any reason once it's been submitted.

By the letter of the official rules, that's probably true.
However, from a strategic point of view, I wonder if the judges would view resubmitting it as a cop-out—or an indication that you couldn't come up with a better idea.
