I have read the Pathfinder Society game rules and at the back it states that the GM must play the scenario first in order to get credit for it. My question is this: Starting off with home games and our group there is no convention to play the scenario first as suggested. So home game GM's have a distinct disadvantage in "eating" Scenarios. Do you have any plans to create a GM rewards program for those scenarios which are indeed eaten? Maybe access to a free society scenario of choice... Cool dice with pathfinder logo on it for GM use only? anything in the works? ANY advantage to being a GM at a con?
Thanks,
Qadiran Caravan Tracker.

As a convention GM I can say there is just as much a disadvantage. The only way to really avoid eating scenarios is to get the writer of the scenario to run it for you. The best solution is to rotate the GMs through the group so no one person is eating everything.
I certainly wouldn't mind a GM reward though, perhaps for 'eating' the scenario you can gain 1 prestige for 1 character?

What I'm trying to do in San Diego is to get judges who aren't interested in Pathfinder Society to judge the round zeroes. I'm tapping into the RPGA 4.0 judges, almost all of whom have experiences running 3.5 games. That way, people who want to play the mods are not the ones burning them.
And, if I happen to "accidentally" hook another person on Pathfinder/Golarion along the way, so be it. :-)

This is brilliant on multiple levels. Thanks, Tom...I'm looking forward to playing on the 20th...for ten and half hours straight! O_O
As for the GM Reward program...I fully support this. Despite the discovery of a San Diego-area PFS game, I'm more likely to be running games than playing them.
In general, even if they do play the scenario first, running a game takes work. It'd be nice for GMs to receive some kind of recognition for their efforts.

Too bad you're not in Phoenix...I'd be in for doing that on occasion to help out some fellow gamers. That is really a pretty good idea, actually. Holler if you ever come east a little bit. :)

Couldn't agree with you more. I try my best to find little ways to thank them all the time. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a Living Kalamar method of GM rewards for PFS. Burning a mod, you still got the XP and GP to apply to any character, and you would sometimes get special access.

You guys are loaded with excellent event coordinators and judges! Heck, you even have a retired Living Greyhawk Circle member to kick around out there. :-) But thanks for the shout out!
I get out there once in a while, but it's usually a family thing for my fiancee, so I generally don't have any spare time. I certainly have lots of gaming friends out there though. To wit, "Hi everyone!" ;-)

I do like the idea of getting non PFS GM's at conventions but the issue is still for the home gamers who a: are not all GM's b: factions take a big hit on these games. If we wait for conventions we only see two or three out here (VT) a year....
Ah yes, I'm doing it for a monthly gameday and two conventions. So, I'm trying to provide the initial runs of everything for the locals who want to then run them at home.
For my Pathfinder home game, I'm the judge, and we're using the APs and the beta rules. So, it's a whole different ball of wax.
But then, in "home games," it's more expected that one person is the judge and won't be playing everything. The rotating judge model does work pretty well in that case.

I hope they (PFS) find some way to help the GM's as there is (as you know) a lot of work involved in being a GM, the event coordinators do a good job of giving you a break on convention costs for running games but still a lot of work to bone up on an adventure and new set of guidelines on short notice... for GM's new to the PFS.

Holy cow...Tom Kee. I ran one of your mods in at a retail event (AGoP) several months back. Part of a pirate series, but since I came into the LG scene fairly late I hadn't seen any of the earlier installments.
Small world. :)

If you live in VT then drop me an emial: deathboy01@gmail.com. I am trying to put together a New England PFS thing where we meet once a month to bang out senarios. My genral idea is to have the DMs switch out slot 0 running so they all get a chance to play as many as possible, but still have to run one slot 0 themselves.

I've set up a New Englang PFS gameday that will play in the northshore, southern New Hampshire area if your interested. The first gameday will be played on September 13th.

See I will be running The Hydra's Fang Incident that day for a few people. I am actually waiting for the next wave of adventures, as I have run them all at GenCon.
We are looking at a start of stuff in October/November as I can get DMs up to snuff.
I am also looking to help organize for the Cons in New England and even some parts of NY and NJ. it is all about the Coverage!

I like this idea, because in my situation I will be eating a lot of scenarios. It would be cool if the powers that be would help me out with a little goodie boost from time to time.
Same situation here, it looks like I am going to be eating the first 4 scenarios with no chance to play at all. Local game day, home game, and two upcoming conventions here in town. Hopefully I can encourage enough players to start PFS, that I can finally play a scenario or two sometime with the next year.

I am very glad to see all the response to what I thought was a "just me" topic. Maybe with all the GMing that we are doing we will have some prestige among our piers when they incorporate the final version of PF. next gen con. Maybe since we are play testing the PFS for paizo and we run enough games we get a free copy of the final PF? (the last one was for anyone at Paizo listening.....)(grin)

Shifter I have a suggestion or two from some home games. They may not help but here they are. In one home game I have been in, where most people have experience Dming and playing we would rotate the DM screen so to speak. We all had characters, and if I was taking levels 1-3, one of the other people would take 3-6 and someone else would take 6-9 etc. While we were DMing our characters would be an “npc” and when it was our turn to play, we had a character that was already part of the group.
I know that is probably useless for a convention-basted game.
Currently I am playing in a Rise of the Rune lords game, which the DM is feeling a little irritated and burned out. We have gotten through Burnt offerings, and I think most of the way through the Skin saw murders. I am thinking of offering to take over DMing. If I do take over, I would suggest that our DM make a character, with the experience matching the player who has the most experience.
Anyways those are some thoughts. I don’t know if they are useful.
Shifter and Deathboy, I live in VT and I would be interested in getting involved in some PFS games, either as a DM or a player. Tim the Enchanter I would also be interested in that New England PFS game day on September 13. I live in Brattleboro VT so it should not be too difficult for me to get to either the North Shore or southern New Hampshire.
Thanks

Just ran silent tide as a home game and I gotta say "WELL DONE" haveing played a rogue in to 10th lev. and really fustrated that undead and constructs are the only thing that was submitted for modules at upper levels I got discuraged... but there was something for everyone in that Scenario... I hope they keep it up. A game day for me is cool at this point as I have only eaten one adventure! So to play them and then run them is the Ideal situation. I will e-mail death boy and see what is shakn' I live in Burlington vt though and it is a bit of a travel...

I don't know of too many of the scenario writers that live in VT. But I do like the Presige point Idea. Maybe even some GM support materials like a GM screen with new PFS guidelines in it?
I strongly support the idea of giving special presige points to GMs, allowing them a one-time purchase of PC items on a special list.
Maybe it will be too complicated make the difference between GMing a mod and "eating a mod plus GMing it". So just give the prestige points to games GMed and reported.
Also, the Paizo store may have a section reserved for folks having GMed (and reported) at least one PFS mod (special GM T-shirts, etc...).
Pathfinder Society Organized Play needs such a GM reward program (much more than Pathfinder RPG).
Shifter, I know we have at least one author here in Montreal (not far from VT) who is currently writing a mod, so when the mod is out you are welcome!
