I have no previous experience with the Marvel rules, but I want to support superhero games. I have been reading my old copy of the rules and consulting the link Radavel gave. If you will accept my lack of familiarity withm the system, I'd like to join.

I have played V&V, Heroes Unlimited, GURPS supers (1st ed. only), Champions (several editions), and have run both editions of M&M (because I couldn't find anyone to run it for me). But never Marvel.

I have done a random character, but have no sense of scale or balance for Marvel.

I work 3-11 pm on the east coast of the U.S., so I post mainly after 1 am and between 9am and 12 noon on weekdays. On weekends, I will not post as much as I spend the time with my wife (and in local games). I am already in two pbps, so I would be spreading my time to a third. If this is acceptable, count me in.

OK

Here goes.
Chris Mortika gave these guidelines:
1) Determine a physical form (d100)
2) Determine an origin (d100)
3) Generate Primary Attributes (seven d100 rolls; different origins roll on different tables, but it's always percentile rolls)
4) Determine Secondary Attributes (health and karma are calculated from Primary stats, Resources are rolled on d100, and Popularity is fixed.)
5) Determine a weakness (3 times d100)
6) Generate Powers, Skills, and Contacts:
a) d100 to determine how many powers
b) 3 d100 rolls to determine the particulars and the strength of each power
c) d100 to determine how many skills
d) d100 and d10 to determine which skills
e) d100 to determine how many contacts
Then make sense of it all.

(I’m writing this from my notes, so apologies if it isn’t clear.)

Physical Form: Induced Mutant (add + 1 CS on any attribute)
Origin: Technical Mishap
Fight: Remarkable 26
Agility: Incredible 36
Strength: Good 8
Endurance: Remarkable 26
Reason: Excellent 16
Intuition: Good 8
Psyche: Good 8
Weakness: Molecular Allergy / Power Negation / Permanent

Powers (4 / 6)
1)Plasticity (Remarkable 26) ; Bonus: Elongation (Incredible 36) ; Optional: Bouncing Ball (Remarkable 26)
2)Fire Generation (Good 8)
Talents (3 / 4)
1)Acrobatics 2)Business/Finance 3)Repair/Tinkering
Contacts (3 / 4)
Resources: Base of Typical Increased by three ranks = Remarkable 26

OK, Plasticity is cool, Elongation less so, and Bouncing sounds like the core ability. So as not to be too similar to other flexi-stretchy types can I switch power rank of bouncing and elongation, then drop elongation to excellent? Fire generation gets dropped as it doesn’t fit well, but I’d like to spend two resource levels to purchase Armor Skin (Remarkable 26): Leather.

Story:

Spoiler:
Boyd Boykins graduated college and found an entry level job with a major cosmetics firm, as an assistant to a junior executive in the research department. After he was used as a test subject by Mad Scientist Dr. Edward Mingle for a “tanning spray”, he developed a thick, leathery skin. The corporation fired the researcher (who blames Boykins), and hushed Up the incident with a large cash settlement. Boyd used up most of the money looking for a cure, but eventually gave up while he still had funds, which he invested in a small commercial building in a less desirable part of town. He lives upstairs, and uses the first floor to pursue his hobby of tinkering with broken gadgets. As time went by the harsh appearance he had been cursed with faded like an old scar, leaving him with no worse looks than any old sailor or outdoorsman. To the touch, his curse is still apparent and he has developed an additional effect. His whole body is now flexible and elastic and, most especially, bouncy. He has put his powers to use locally to reduce street crime and is looking to involve himself in a group of heroes so he can help more than just his neighbors. Unknown to Pong (his chosen superhero name) Dr. Mingle can cure him and, by doing so, remove his powers. (This is also unknown to the mad doctor)

Any advice on where to add a column shift to his stats? Or on how the power set will work with the team? Or on any of this? Armor skin seems like a good defense against most attacks. Elongation give Pong a long reach. Plasticity gives him power rank resistance to blunt Physical attacks and allows bouncing away from a fall of up to his power rank stories. Bouncing Ball makes him look goofy but allows him to travel at power rank, increase his Fighting rank by his power rank, adds +3 CS to his resistance to blunt Physical attacks, and reduces his resistance to slashing attacks by -2 CS. So I guess I’m really good at fighting, but is damage tied to strength or to power rank?

Fletcher had a normal upbringing his parents both came from large extended families and he had no idea what secrets they kept until the day he was visiting his mother at work and whilst waiting while she was finishing an experiment she was helping with.
The lab was raided by federal agents whom inadvertedly caused an explosion that caught Fletcher as he ran in to find his mother during the commotion.
The blast turned him into an immobile statue which took a number of hours before he reverted back to normal.
Taken to hospital for a check up the doctors discovered he was now a living magnetic generator imbuing everything he touched with a magnetic field, taken into protective custody he received a battery of tests and eventually discovered he could move anything he had imbued with his magnetic energy up to a limited range, but during an argument because they refused to tell him when he could go home he punched a wall and his entire body turned into it granting some measure of strength and resilience!
However there was a time limit involved and when he exceeded it he was left paralysed as he was after the laboratory explosion, but this periods of paralysis were far shorter but left him powerless until he rested during which it was revealed his magnetic power proved to be the source of his physical transformation.

Still working on the rest of the story

The character looks great about your doubts you can follow your instints to create a character you feel well with. You could instead increasing a CS perhaps erase any weakness other than slashing attacks.

1) Saint Ignatus Orphanage
2) Lou Detelli (Reporter for the Progress Report A daily paper)
3) Bert 'Twitchie' Cole (local low-life and all around snitch)
Bonus) Detective Marta Dano

Background story:

Spoiler:

Evan was just one of many abandoned children left on the doorstep of the local orphanage. He was small, scrawny was more to the point but he was always quicker both in speed and in thinking to outwit most bullies. He received a state-paid education meaning he learned most of everything on the streets. He ran with gangs from the time he was old enough to understand the way the world worked but he always managed to keep out of serious trouble. He would have probably ended up much like his best friend Twitchie but puberty brought him a new path.

Never knowing his father Evan (nicknamed 'Red' for the shock of red hair he has)had no idea his father was a mutant, as was his father and so on and so forth. While he was named Evan Rivers (Because he was found on the River Street entrance stoop of the Orphanage) his father was Kurtis MacSidhe a powerful mutant Criminal. Evan's powers started to show with a dramatic increase in his reflexes and speed, but the most dramatic change was his discovery he could alter his appearance.

After a few daring robberies Evan received a visit from a man who claimed to be his Uncle. Calling himself Uncle Angus, the man revealed to Evan the truth of his lineage and the origins of his powers. Uncle Angus expected Evan to return to him to the 'Old country' and join the family business of Crime. Evan however had other ideas. Growing up in the orphanage he was weened on stories of Robin Hood, the Three Musketeers and Zorro and while he admitted to being a thief he did not see himself as a criminal. He stole yes but never from anyone that couldn't afford it. Using his great speed and agility he fled his Uncle and vanished into the underworld to become a Vigilante, a modern day Robin Hood...

Again, this is just a rough idea and work in progress.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

He would be able to take on the likeness of anyone that is humanoid, so while he could look like the Lizard he couldn't have his tail. Simply put I suspect it works much like how Mystique's powers work. He can take on the appearance but not the powers or skills of the person he's impersonating. That's how it's written up anyway

I see it at least in the looks of it being very fluid, almost like how morphing programs can change one person in a photograph into another person.

I hope that helps. The Imitation power in the Advanced player's book has the actual game mechanics of it.

Look. I'm a bouncing ball!

Patricio, if you and Radavel don't mind, I'd like to pass off my +1 CS for an attribute and the power I choose to drop to Radavel. No offense meant, but my dice for character creation were hot and his were not. I'm happy without the CS and the power, and he may want the boost.

I'll try to finish out the character and get it entered to Pong's profile tomorrow.

Back at the turn of the century Fletcher’s great grandparents had worked for Nikolai Tesla during his many experiments and these resulted in their children developing supernatural abilities which they kept hidden however the subsequent wars resulted in a number of the family fighting on either side though most preferred careers in scientific or academic interests, but as with most things the family had both superheroes and supervillains in their number but they were never many in number.
Fletcher however came to the attention of a local hero who recruited him whilst he was visiting one of Fletcher’s uncles whom had retired from his superhero career back when said hero was only starting.
Fletcher’s family don’t like the idea of Fletcher’s new hobby but what Fletcher hasn’t told them is that he was threatened by a member of the family connected to the local criminal syndicate after he turned down his offer to join him.

Left some bits open to fit in with whatever background has been dedied upon for the campaign city.

Skater, Mechimera y Johnny Illuninaty ready, the Vigilante's leader is expecting for the complete roll call.

Details have been added to Pong's profile.

As I am a newcomer to the Marvel system, I have some questions on how it works in regards to Pong.

1)Bouncing Ball adds its rank (Inc 36) to Pong's fighting rank (Rem 26). Does this add +36 to the roll on column Inc or change the column to Amazing (36+26=62=Amazing)?

2)When attacked by a blunt Physical attack, Pong has:
-Armor Skin (Rem 26):subtract the rank number from the intensity of any physical or energy attack
-Plasticity (Rem 26): power rank resistance to blunt Physical attacks
-Bouncing Ball (Inc 36): +3 CS resistance to blunt Physical attacks
How does all this combine?

Is there someplace I can see an example of gameplay (or at least combat), so I can see how it works before trying it myself? Perhaps in one of the books on the link Radavel listed?

1) I will quote the rule from Ultimate Powers Book:

"his Fighting rank is increased by this power’s rank number. He has +3CS resistance to blunt physical attacks. On the down side,he also has a -2CS resistance to slashing attacks".

It is explained that your real "fighting bonus" is your +3CS to resist blunt attacks.

2) Remember that Bouncing Ball deals only with bludgeoning attacks but Armor Skin with physical and energy attacks. As far as I can interprete the rule, this powers exclude each other so you must choose if taking your Armor Skin form or execute your Plasticity powers since when you use the first one you lose your human form in a different way than Plasticity.

For examples of battling look for the Battle Book although I don't know if it show your specific case.

Should any decisions be asked of me, I give Radavel my proxy. (How can I not trust a Wild Cards fan?)

I have't seen this. Sounds useful. Where is it found?

Check out Marvel.com at the bottom they have a section for "Create your own superhero" with the hulk image there's even a gallery of others attempts.

Let me know what you think about it.

Er any word when this gets started?

By the way anyone interested in Torchwood may like to know that Torchwood radio show is on tomorrow on BBC Radio 4 at 2.15pm

Tomorrow is August 10th so we should have starting that day, however the full call roll is not yet ready. You have the whole day to create, fix or polish your characters, post them and we will start on Monday with all those who are present at the moment. The setting is New Proverbial as you now which is a copy of the actual New York, for more information look the supplement "New York, New York" from the original MSH game.

Patricio, with the stats of my character and him being a student, is it possible to not make him a member of the Vigilantes at the start?

My intention was to enter The Vigilantes as an established group, where they know each other otherwise you wouldn't have the opportunity to act regularly. However if you wish that I could change a little the first storyline and make you as a newcome hero that crosses path with the Vigilantes.

Thanks. He's just a kid out to test his powers. At night.

Here you can find out who the Vigilantes' leader is, just in case you are curious. With the only exception that is popularity is 30 because he is relatively a new hero which is seen for most of the people as an "urban legend"

Well Batman has been around more time than the other members of the team so he has a stablished career as vigilante for about 8 years. He is still Bruce Wayne and keeps all what we know about Batman's mithology except for the existence of Robin and other bat-guys. As Bruce his popularity is only 50 since he has been a low profile "playboy".

So your character is not just a member of the team, but rather the leader?

How did he recruit us?

Patricio, have you created a thread in the PbP section yet? I assumed that you would kick the game off from there.

We should also have a PBP discussion thread, for out of character communications. (Like these)

So when and where does this start?
Just wondering as this is the first of these I've ver tried playing in.

If memory serves Batman founded the Outsiders so its more a case of he arranged a meeting where the group meet up separately and are there for a specific reason perhaps as a catspaw for a foe the "leader" believes the potential recruits share an enmity for and their reaction decides whether they're suitable recruits, well okay I'm just guessing but it will be interesting to find out.
