Remember the old 1E rulebooks and how they were full of random little cartoons that kinda' went with text?
I'd love to see Paizo get the folks who do Zoogonia, Order of the Stick, Downer, etc. - all the old Dungeon and Dragon cartoons - to do a few little one or two panel cartoons scattered throughout the new Pathfinder rulebook.
For example, I remember Order of the Stick had a great one with the arrows flying past one of the characters. The PC kept saying "What was that?" but couldn't see the arrows because he kept failing his Spot check. What a funny, tongue-in-cheek thing to put on the page explaining how skill checks work.

While I love those comics I do not want them in my rule book that's space that can be better spent might as well put in ad's really.
I see your point, but assuming that there is page space allocated for art in the rulebook anyways, I'd be perfectly happy if there were some nice 3-panel comics that illustrate the rules.

I approve of this idea. Yes, approve!
Order of the Stick would work splendidly. It's already about D&D - and not only the world, but the rules, too. What would be better to illustrate what are practically D&D rules?
OotS would also work very well for a conversion guide. Explain a change, and then make fun of it. I can totally see a certain halfling ranger making lascivious remarks about grapple.

NO cartoons please. I want a RPG-book, not a comic book. I want fantasy pictures which transport flavor and underline rules. Comics have no place in a rulebook and they also do not help you with the rules.
(I could live with cartoons in a mag like dungeon but not in my rulebooks.)
Or is the another April's joke?

Not a joke for my part.
Artwork conveys the flavor and style of a game better than almost anything else.
The request "put in some cartoons" translates to "make sure the rules aren't entirely grim". Damn it, I want my gaming to be fun.
I'm reminded of the illustration of Lidda having failed a Use Magic Device roll. Or of dozens of Magic: the Gathering cards with whimsical illustrations.

I think the art in the current alpha is doing a good job. For example, you have Merisiel succeeding in her acrobat roll and Seoni being tossed aside on page 22. This art serves a purpose, I however don't want anything cartoony or comic strip like in the rule book.

It looks like we'll be outvoted here, but I agree that some cartoons could be fun. This is probably just due to my fond memories of the 1e cartoons. The plate mail clad fighter leaping into the mage's arms at the approach of a rust monster was a classic, and Papers & Paychecks still gets mentioned at our games once in a while.
On the other hand, rulebooks are so fancy and graphics intensive now that the kind of cartoons they had back in 1e might really stick out. It wasn't such a big deal in 1e where the quality of the art varied a lot and everything but the covers was black & white.
I recall that the old Call of Cthulhu book had "serious" art throughout including some beautiful full page paintings in color but also included a few pages of goofy cartoons near the end where you might stick things like charts and templates.
