You know, I'm loving the idea that Paizo is having an open forum to discuss this game, but I can't get over my belief that Jason and the other developers can't help but be completely and totally overwhelmed by the tremendous amount of input from the fans.
It's clear to me that people love this game dearly - that is evident in the many posts I read on here.
But I can't help but wonder if the chaos will end up being too overwhelming?
In Congress (or a college fraternity for that matter) when they have specific issues they need tackled, they create committees. These committees focus on a specific topic - and beat it to death. In the end, when they are done reviewing all the options and debating the pros and cons, they give their recommendation to the leader (Jason, for example) who can make the final decision to use that idea (or not).
It seems like it would be a MUCH more efficient method than what we currently have.

If you could come up with one word for the reason that mankind will never achieve its full potential as a species, that word would be: meetings.

That's a nice theory you have, but a really ignorant one.
I'm pretty sure the signing of the Declaration of Independence was a meeting.

One of the problem with the committees is that this format can drown out the individual voice... thus create a series of "elitist" style groups that make the shots as far as public opinion is concerned, thus further isolating the individual gamer... which, in many ways, lead to the creation of Pathfinder RPG (not Paizo's shutting out of ideas, but rather... well, you get the idea).
I understand your concern, and your core concept, but in many ways I feel that specialized committees could very well hurt the base concept of the open playtest itself.

Groups might work.
You could also pick one topic or problem a week to focus on and have everyone discuss it.
I believe that is the point behind the [Design Focus] threads.

Ahh ha! I missed those.

I think I will be avoiding committees for the time being, but there will be more Design Focus threads as needed while I work through the process.
For the record, I am currently keeping pretty good pace with the threads here, especially now that they have slowed a bit.

The design-focus threads are great. What I'd like to see is people who see a particularly slick idea in another thread then post it to a design-focus thread. It would be great if we could "farm" all the fora for good ideas, preferably ideas that are somewhat whole and already thought through.
Maybe instead of committees, people could take it upon themselves to go through threads and "farm"?

I also like the Tennis Court Oath, as long as we're quoting from history.
I guess it depends who gets to be Louis XVI ? :-)
