My main concern is that humans no longer get a 'free' martial weapon proficiency, and I based Justin on using a sword, not a staff.
I guess I could just use my first extra feat to buy him back his weapon proficiency with longswords?
Please don't even begin to get me started on how much I Hate, I Hate, I Hate the fact that Humans have lost the Bonus Martial Weapon Proficiency!!!
I have made 2 characters (with thoughts for more) to take advantage of this and luckily both DMs have allowed me to keep the free MWP rather than totally retcon the character or suck up a Feat to continue to use it. I actually would have quit using at least one of the characters if I had to retcon because I was so mad.

Hey Rags, I'll give you the bonus, since it can be 'grandfathered' in. You didn't know the rules had changed, and I'm not gonna penalize you for it. Consider it a gift.
Yay! Presents! :)
Thank you Patrick.
Althogh, to be honest, I wouldn't have stopped playing Justin if you hadn't let me keep it, (I'm mad, but not as mad as flash it seems!) But I DID design Justin and his spells with certain themes/cooperative effects in mind.
And, how often do you get to play a wiz with a sword, I mean really now?!?
:)
Thanks, again!
I saw why they had added that particular bonus IN, but I don't see why they took it OUT. Maybe If I looked at all the races REALLY hard, I'd see a balance problem,...? :P
Or not. I have 'selective blindness' almost as bad I have 'selective hearing'!
:)

Well, if anyone has an issue with the rules set changing, just ask. I am pretty liberal in my rules interpretations. As long as we are all having fun, that is what really matters. I want everyone to feel like they got a fair shake. If you are mad, then I'm doing something wrong. If you don't enjoy the game, then we will see what we can do to change that.

Oh no Pat, sorry not mad with you. Mad about the rules change. I lnow you're a pretty accomodating GM and I loves ya for it. ;)

No worries, that statement was more of a general one to anyone playing. I'm sure you would have spoken up if something bothered ya! :)

Basically, some people acted like it was the flipping apocalypse. You know, commoners using greatswords, wizards swinging axes around, cats and dogs living together, total anarchy. I can't say they don't have a point, though...
Heh,... Yeah, but "Who ya gonna call?!?" :)
And NO worries Patrick, I AM having fun! As long as I am, It's going to be VERY hard for you to get rid of me! ;P

Hey, I have a BS too! (Oh, wait, that was a BA, NM) ;P
Actually, I have an AA, a BA, and then a Master's in BS! (Theatre!) :)
Good luck Patrick, go deal, we'll be here when you get back!
(Nothing TOO serious I hope?! <makes Sign of the Cross to ward off both evil and stupid spirits!>)
Nah, just car insurance forms to fill out, Fall gardening issues, lots of various appointements, ferrying our ersatz foster child about as she tries to piece her documentation back together (birth cert, ss card, etc.), vet appointments for our three bowsers, sifting the Internet for a job to transition into before my current one lays me off, etc. etc.. And of course, now tonight I have a spot of open time to post. Heh, silly me...

Wow.
Thanks Rags. I try to help where I can. One thing I believe in is if I complain about government programs, the flip side is that I have to pitch in as an individual to help those less fortunate. Believing in the power of the individual brings a lot of responsibility to the individual as well. One of my biggest biotches is so many people turn their SEP* fields on and go tra-la-laing through their day without a care.
*SEP=Somebody Else's Problem - thanks to Douglas Adams for that one

ROFLMAO!
I like it!
(And not JUST because my personal SEP field is one of the industrial-heavy-duty ones!) ;P
AGain, kudos. After my usual day, it's all I can do to motivate myself to go HOME and try to make life better for my wife and kids! :)

Flash & Rags
I'm currently in a really great game that actually feels more like an interactive story, thanks to an amazing DM and players. We'ver recently lost 2 people and our DM has tasked a couple of us with reccommenting players of the same caliber or better before opening up to the public. I think either or both of you guys would be great.
You can check out the game thread here and see what you think, then chime in on the discussion thread if you're interested.

MARK-
first, Thank you very much for the consideration! :) I'll take your offer as a compliment! I have to admit, mostly I just write to entertain myself. IF others enjoy it as well, BONUS! ;)
I am always interested in a(nother) good Pbp! Please give me a couple of days to read and respond, as I actually have to do work sometime, and this is one of those weeks!
I will let you know asap, and thanks again!

Hey, Patrick, is there a definite date for when we're supposed to switch to the final Pathfinder rules? I'd like to swap out Isaac's rogue talent if possible as well, since I've never used it and I think Swire has that one covered. Up to you.
Oh, and great job with the game. I always look forward to checking in for updates and such.

Yes, good question boss.
I've been hemming and hawing about the final switch, because I LIKE the beta version of the rules! ;P
But, the primary reason I had at the moment (The time on my alter self spell) is over now, so whenever you say the word, I'll figure out the changes.
NOW, do we pretend that nothing has happened? OR do we go "Holy S#!t! What happened to my spells and powers?!? IS the universe in danger?!?!?!?!,... Again?!?" ;P
Just a thought,... for those who actually read the old deities-fell-to-earth storyline from FR. (Like me. Yes. I actually read them.)

I'm all good... Bethany barely changes.
In Pat's other game though it's a big change... Joleesa goes from a Fighter 2/Rogue 2 to a Tome of Secrets Swashbuckler 4...

I'll admit it is none of my business but I am curious. Why does the character go from fighter 2/ rogue 2 to Swahbuckler 4? Since as far as I am aware Fighter and rogue aren't really all that different in the new rules compared to Beta.
| Patrick Curtin |
I had figured since we have the final rules, that we was using them. They're what I'm referencing to referee after all. Feel free to update the characters.
...
That being said, I am not a rules slave. If there is something that you need or want in your present character that the final rules dispensed with, bring it up to me, and more than likely I'll let you keep it. We're not playing tournament rules here anyhow, and I want y'all to enjoy your characters, not feel gypped.
...
I know switching rules sets in median res kinda breaks the 'fourth wall' but I think we can just gloss over it and just move on to other things. I don't feel like making a 'Spellplague' to cover the changes :P

The character that I am playing is a Swashbucklery type character, but while I do like the 3.5 Swashbuckler I honestly think that mechanically it could be better simulated as a Fighter/Rogue. Thus my original choice of classes. Afer reading the Tome of Secrets however, this class is almost exactly how I always envisioned the Swashbuckler should have been done. Hence I am very much keen to utilise the class and as Joleesa was built to emulate it I asked Pat if I could make the swap and he was most gracious enough to agree.

Okay, thanks Pat. One thing I noticed in my own tabletop game is just how easy it is to work with older stuff, for the most part. We could probably have 3.5 characters running around with Beta and Final version PF rules characters and not notice a huge change unless it came down to something really different like combat maneuvers.
Isaac's updated; not much changed. I switched out bleeding attack for the combat trick rogue talent to get Improved Initiative. If that's a problem, I'm fine changing it back.

That's fine James. I agree with you on the not noticing a lot of changes, but then again I was just getting familiar with 3.5 when we Beta switched and then final PF. I think you can pretty much run it striaght, I haven't had any problems pitting you against 3.5 monsters.
And BTW thanks for the props, and I appreciate having Issac as a true 'Cager' to play off of!

Yeah, we'll have to see. Having too many good campaigns and adventures without enough time to run them leads to restlessness for me in my meatspace game. Pbps are slow but a fair replacement. Having an iphone helps, too, since I can check up at work without taking over the shared computer. Kicking it around.
| Patrick Curtin |
Say, Pat: how many play by post games are you running? Does it drive you crazy, or not so much? Considering starting up another one; I think I've hit on the right strategy sticking to published material.
I have three active and one stuttering right now. I like PbPs, but I don't have a meatspace game and I like being able to update at weird hours and momentary checkins when home.
Published material makes it a lot easier, for sure. I like the module you guys are running through, and I think I might run some of the others in this series, since they are Sigil-centric and I like the Cage. The fact that they are 2e isn't even fazing me (except you guys chew through mooks quite quicker than I am used to :P)

No problem Pat. Since I'm totally insane, I'm looking to do a Scarred Lands setting pbp and I could use one or two more people if there's any interest.

I saw that and it looked pretty cool; unfortunately I passed since I have absolutely zero knowledge about that setting (and I hate being the one who's constantly forgetting important setting points in my posts ... I have a hard enough time remembering exactly what happened a couple pages ago!!)

I have absolutely no idea about the Scarred Lands Setting, so it makes it kinda hard...

That's cool. I've been dying to play that setting again, since it's the first really successful campaign I had in real life once 3rd edition came out. It's set 150 years after a huge war between the gods and their mortal followers and the titans and their monstrous children. Even though the Divine Races won, the land itself is practically ruined: where the titans' blood fell, it poisoned the earth in a lot of horrific ways and those titanspawn are still totally out there and now the divine races can't count on direct intervention to keep them safe. It's a cool setting, in my opinion and I wish it were still around.
