At first level, Valeros looks almost entirely the same as his 3.5 counterpart. He has an additional +1 to hit, and +1 to damage with his longsword. It's nice, but it's not exactly overwhelming.
By 15th level, though, he's showing serious signs of improvement. His to-hit numbers at 15th level are in the neighborhood I expect from 20th level fighters, and the combination of Weapon Swap and Double Slice mean he's putting out monstrous amounts of damage with very little loss in to-hit probability. If he's able to achieve a full attack against an opponent with an AC of, say, 29 (about average for a CR 15 bad guy), his average damage output is north of 170 hp, and that's without figuring criticals into the mix. He could almost certainly kill himself in a single full-round action. He still has the undeniable weakness of a terrible Will save and no way to deal with highly-mobile opponents without help, however - but at least he's making progress.

This may be a bit off the topic, but I couldn't help myself. I'm currently playing RotRL with an 8 party group. Which some of the members are playing iconics. My group was fighting Rune Giants in the last AP, and Valeros fell to their mighty blows. At the time my Druid was the only person capable of helping him. So I cast a 4th lvl. spell called Last Breath on him. He accepted the spell because he had no other option left to him, but death. So I rolled up on the reincarnation chart, and got a 12%. Budda-boom budda-bing, Valeros is now a dwarf. Iconic reborn, literally.
