Psion

Races & Classes

I know this is on another board, but if this is the right place to post it so that it gets properly reviewed . . .

I think it's a shame that despite being a core 3.5 SRD class, that it faces the real chance of complete neglect when it comes to an official Pathfinder player's HB make-over along with the rest of the classes.

I find it ironic since psionics will be making brief cameos in the 2D AP and Campaign hardbound book, but not as part of the player's HB. I assume this leaves any modifications up to individuals?

I agree with you that psionics gets neglected, Heavily. I think this edition of dnd (3.5e basic) is a good stable one compared to the other previous incarnations. I enjoy playing around with the shaper discipline.

If a vote-count will help the psions (and soulknives and psychic warriors too, of course) survive into the Pathfinder RPG, then I will definitely cast my vote on the pro-side.

Please, don't exclude psionics from Golarion!

I haven't had time to find it for context, but there was a thread on the WotC forum that may or may not still exist as part of gleemax under the paraphrased title of Psionics is not broken, which details an exhaustive list of misnomers and rules clarifications for those that dismiss psionics without really reading/ understanding the rules.

As you say, psionics has come a long way since 2nd edition, and I think it is not the white elephant that it once was.

When I think of Githyanki, Aboleths, Yuan-ti, and the Astral Plane, I associate them heavily with psionics. If a game setting includes these elements, then I wouldn't think including psionics would be that contrary to the setting for me.

I haven't read all the rules for psionics, but wouldn't just adding a psion class to PFRPG come with a need of printing whole lot of pages for psionic powers and rules to play them? I'm not sure, but isn't there about as many psionic powers as there are spells? And seven out of eleven core classes use spells. Wouldn't adding psionics increase the page count enormously?

Honestly the page count could be cut in half if they'd stop repeating SRD info. It would make it a lot easier to determine what was changed at the same time.

It’s an early release, but I was a little bummed by the lack of psionics love. This is a prime opportunity to make soulknives stop sucking.

Considering that almost every book wotc has come out with spells for the mages, clerics, etc. (the spell casters) Honestly no. the expanded psionics book's section on powers is 71pages in thin compared to the 122 pages for spells in the PHB. That is not included what would be added for spells from the fellows at paizo.

P.S. I like the term mage for arcane spell caster and cleric for divine casters

As well, the SRD is a free resource online. I'm not sure if they still do, but WotC at least had a version which could be downloaded.

It would be most welcome though to also see those select psionic powers receiving the same update to the Alpha as certain spells get.

So far, like other posts, I'm planning on mirroring it around how they have modified the wizard.

It's a peculiar sensation knowing that psionics will be involved with upcoming AP's and the campaign setting but will not receive the same amount of alpha rules updating the other classes will receive.
