How's that? ... Now, if Vivienne is waiting for us there, it's a party.

Radavel, I made one non-RAW rule and I just wanted to know if you're okay with it? I added Longsword as a weapon proficiency since it's the deity's favoured weapon and I've always felt it strange that the clergy isn't proficient with their diety's favoured weapon.

Dark Archive

Proficiency is fine. I also believe that clerics should be proficient with the favored weapon their respective deity.

It sounds like Armand and Vivienne are in town. I guess we should pack up and hit the roads in the morning.

Sounds like a good idea. Fun totally improv roleplaying this. Reminds me of improv soap operas I used to watch.

Let's get back to town though ... Hey, Rad, where do I live? If I have an apartment/office what would my monthly rent be?

Yeah, perhaps they even know each other.

A wealthy client has allowed you the free use of one of his apartments in the Noble Quarter (Quartier Savant) after experiencing one of your healing sessions. Its a three story building with lots of room. Very private. There is even an access to the sewers.

BTW, is Dayenn Naight a faculty at the University of Dementlieu, just outside of the city?

'His'? I would have assumed it was from a wealthy female client. ;-)

I envisioned him as being on a leave of absence due to his unconventional research.

I shall trust in Tarren's sick sense of narrative to bring us all into town so we can hook up.

Grim will concede some interest in Dayenn's research but has no wish to alter his memories, otherwise he would have done so himself. He does not see himself as a hired goon, but as a do-gooder, and regards Dayenn as a magnet for trouble - plus he thinks someone needs to keep an eye on Marius.

As for Witch, he feels obliged to keep his promises.

Nathaniel will continue in the morning with the group to Port-A-Lucine, hoping to find answers to his questions there. Once there, he has no real intention of continuing his association with the others (unless circumstances prove otherwise), but he will no doubt be somewhat lost in the large city, and may take any offered assistance in finding his feet.

He feels something of a kinship with Grim and the Witchbrand, but does not care for Daeyen’s theories or probing questions, or Marius’ snide attitude.

Just to confirm the location of the PCs

In the City: Viviene and Armand

Headed for the City: Dayenn, Grim, Witch, Marius and Nathaniel

Right?

For Armand and Nathaniel

Spoiler:
Do I understand it correctly that your respective wives died recently? Killed in a ritualistic fashion, I take it?

If the answer to the questions is "Yes" then we have a serial killer on our hands.

Everyone but Marius has chimed in on that positively, and I'm sure he'll be fine. It's all the sooner he can become the new Dark Power if he takes over the city.

And what would be his curse? Attracting the wrong sort of affection.

Female Human Bard 1

My affection perhaps...? Oh, you certainly would not want that.

Vivienne will contact the esteemed Doctor to inquire something about Hypnosis. She heard a rumor, that it may be possible to relive memories of ancestors while in trance. A subject she is very interested in, though she will not tell you why.

Radavel? Did you check my numbers and backstory?

** spoiler omitted **

My idea of how Armand's wife (Marie) died was that she in a fit of insanity committed suicide in some way (either on purpose, i.e. directly damaging herself, or indirectly, e.g. by falling off a building, throwing herself on a spiky cast iron fence etc.). Armand is sure that she must have been either possessed in some way or something must have "stolen" her sanity and is now searching for clues to what kind of "mind" demon could have done such a thing.

Whether she actually was possessed or just went plain bonkers I'll leave up to you. :-D

Bonkers seems to be the trade and currency of this lot.

Sorry Radavel, I thought I had answered your question earlier, but I either didn’t post it, or it disappeared.

Spoiler:
Yes, the wife is slain – apparently. I’ve left it intentionally vague as to the why, how and who … or even if – to give you something to work with.

We do seem to have that in common. Man, if only you guys weren't all so afraid of being cured, Dayenn could make a fortune off of the party and their families alone.

Woohoo!

BTW Rad,

There's a new module up for free on Digital Dungeon that looks like it might have something for a Ravenloft DM. I promise I won't read it until you have had a look at it just in case you're interested in using it.

Right now all I know about it is that it involves burning young women with magical abilities, and it's by werecabbage Great Green God, aka Mathew Conklin.

If you're not interested let me know so I can read it.

;)

Grim will explain, in no uncertain terms, that he wants to remember everything, and that he believes that memories make us who we are, and 'erasing' them just because they are bad is dehumanizing.

With this whole 'tutored by mystic aunt' psychic warrior thing I'm working him out as a sort of a common-sense-philosopher-knight with a bad temper, it looks like it will foil well with the professor.

Burning young women with magical power... sounds like an episode of Charmed.

Got me a copy of the complete series and I'm still in Season 1.

Edit: getting a copy now of the adventure.

I caught the first few episodes but it didn't really catch me. It was certainly a good show - I guess I just have so little time for TV that I'm exceedingly choosy about what I watch now.

Works for me. The professor is like many academics: so obsessed with what he can do that he is pays no attention to whether or not he should do it. The ethical problems of what he is doing are of rather little importance to him. That's why I assigned him a Lawful Neutral alignment. Lawful for his belief in the power of reason and logic. Neutral for his lack of ethical awareness.

He doesn't make people forget though. He makes them remember. He takes people back to traumatic moments and has them relive everything.

Tarren Dei wrote:

So not so much of a quack by modern standards. Then Grim's answer would probably be: "I can relive it any time I want."
