D&D miniatures for RotRL

Rise of the Runelords

The Exchange

One of my players has the complete set of D&D Minis. This comes in real handy most of the time. I just tell him "I need X,Y and two Zs" and invariably he has them.
The AP's Bestiary has some monsters that he obviously doesn't have. Unfortunately, I don't have access to his collection ahead of time, and I don't want to waste 20 minutes of game time looking for close matches. Does anyone have suggestions for minis that at least vaguely resembles these monsters?

Spoiler:
Right now, my players about to delve into the catacombs of wrath. I need a couple sinspawn... The best I could think of is a ghoul mini. Anyone have a better suggestion?

Try Ettercaps, the Giants of Legend variety.

I used Ettercaps for these and the mouths are what was important to me...

I agree. Use ettercaps and then resort to ghouls if you run out of those.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick response everyone!

I'll be using the Dolgaunts, because i've a bunch of them, and they look scary. I'll change the description and attacks to match, but they'll still have the same stats.

Scarab Sages

I'm using Gnoll Claw Fighter (Night Below) as Sinspawn, since they look realy alike, only the gnoll is brown. I also wanted to avoid the "It's undead!" player's reaction when they see a ghoul on the table.

Here's my list of minis to use in Burnt Offerings:

I went with Terror Wights, because they also don't look like their limbs are attached properly.

Thanks! Lots of good suggestions

Spoiler:
My players delved into the Catacombs of Wrath last night. I used gouls for the sinspawn instead of the ettercaps. Ettercaps seemed too large and too purple to me. For Koruvus, I stumbled upon a wrackspawn while looking for the bloodhulk. It was perfect with it's three hands and strange, mutant shape. Although, the bloodhulk would have been a great second choice.

Liberty's Edge

I took a flatish rock and wrote 'sinspawn' on it in black Sharpie.

For your information, I'm using Bifur tool to build my DDM warbands, and found it's a very usefull tool to search for the right minis to use in D&D sessions. With all the filters, you can easily narrow down to a couple minis that best suit the NPCs/monsters you need.

PS: It's a MS Access Database, so either you need MS Access instaled or you should download the Bifur + MS Access Run Time version.

Djoc ! You are a God amongst men! This'll save me a heap of time getting my player with the most minis to sort out the entire batch for the campaign, thanks buddy

Eyesofdissaray! Please alter your post if possible to delete the list of creatures in the game. Its a spoiler renember lol

I will say it again, I want my mammy graul mini!! Someone please make one.

simple! 2lbs of plasticine squished up into a vaugly ball shaped mound and stick some bellybutton hair on it's head and viola! A more atractive version of mammy Graul.

Scarab Sages

Alternatively, the Lemure mini (4th line from bottom) shares some body features with it (I don't like to use "her" when talking about Mammy Graul...). I'm not sure it's a big-enough medium mini, though...

Rise from your grave!

I was just perusing the spoilers for Elder Evils, the summer '09 DDM huge set (seen here), when I came across number 34, the Scarecrow Stalker. What a perfect mini for use in
Skinsaw Murders!

They'd never admit to it, but I'm sure WotC looks at Paizo when planning these miniature releases.

I'm seeing more and more similarities between WotC material and Paizo material. Some skills were merged together, some monsters got revamped, some races seem identical.

But that's a good thing. It means I can easily convert Adventure Paths to 4E.

I was thinking exactly the same thing when I saw that Scarecrow mini.

Impressive. BTW, remove the space before .jpg so we can copy-paste it more efficiently. I recognize the horse from thw DDM Warhorse, but where do the wings come from? And the tail?

I'll make an effort and photograph all my Burnt Offerings and Skinsaw Murder custom made miniatures. I went so far as making a custom made tentamort (the poor creature lasted 2 rounds without inflicting any serious damage).

Wings look to be from a fire mephit and tail looks like its from one of the dinosaurs (one of the drow riding a dino maybe?) aslo linkified for him

I used dalgaunts, from Eberron, for the sinspawns.

The fire mephit wings are too small for a large horse.

What are you going to do for the last part of the AP? It looks like there are just too few stone giants released, and later on it get even worse with Taiga Giants (?) an other extreme critters.

I'll use Eldritch Giants and other huge miniatures. No need for Gargantuan giants, the huges are impressive enough. I *might* be tempted to modify a male Barbie doll for the gargantuan size, but I'll see in due time.

As for the stone giants, I got 4 of them, should be enough for 90% of the encounters in Fortress of the Stone Giants. If not, I'll get some metal mini to round it up.

any ideas for the faceless stalkers?

I used Wrackspawn (Common, Angelfire, 60/60)

I planned on using Nothics.

I took a picture of all the minis I painted or modified for our Rise of the Runelords campaign. Here is
the link.

Share your minis, I'm always eager to see other people's work.

Really nice, Zorg. Thanks for sharing those.
