A couple months ago, we put up a blog post wherein all the members of R&D answered the same burning question (a question I have long-since forgotten). Anyway, we're thinking you might enjoy more such blog posts (yes? no? maybe?). If you would like to see more posts where we all answer the same question, provide us some questions!
Yes, that's right! Post your questions here for us to potentially answer on the blog. We might not get through all the questions y'all post, but we'll answer as many as we have time for.
So if you like those kinds of blog posts, put up your questions here.
If you don't like those kinds of blog posts, tell us that as well (a simple "No thanks" will suffice, no need to be verbose).
If you don't really care, let us know that as well.
:D

P.S. to Mike's post: In general, the questions we're looking for are less the yes/no or super-specific types - things that can be answered adequately by one person on the boards - and more the sort of general or philosophical questions that benefit from a wide range of responses. I'm thinking less "What's Desna's backstory?" and more "What country are you most excited about?" or "What discontinued campaign setting is your biggest influence, and why?"
But then, the whole point of this is to write what you want to read, so perhaps you should ignore that and just ask whatever you want. :)

Alright Mike...
not sure if this is the correct thread to post this on, but the title of this tread is: "Help us give you what you want"; so here goes-
I want Paizo to expedite the release of the Adventure Gear #2 deck/set of Item Cards.
I have noticed the cards were originally scheduled to be released in January 08... they are now listed with a scheduled release of February 08.
I Don't mean to nit-pick (and please I'm not really asking/looking for any negative comments from other posters).
I've been eagerly waiting for the release of that specific set of Item Cards, and I'm bummed the date got pushed back.
So... If you can expedite the release- I would truly be ecstatic and appreciative. If not... I guess... I'll see-um, when I see-um.
Thanks for listening Mike,
-JM
P.S. - If anyone else feels the same... I'd sure like to hear :-)

There's nothing we can do to accelerate the release of that product short of flying someone to France and chaining Vincent (the artist) to his drawing table until he's done.
Personally, I wouldn't mind getting a free trip to France, but I'm not keen on the idea of angering one of our most trusted artists. ;)

I vote yes. I'm with fate spinner I like to hear Glorions version of the traditional races, specifically my favs, gnomes. I like the outlook of elves you have done, good job

Can you guys name an area of Golarion that you don't plan on extensively developing?
I like designing areas myself. I also like Pathfinder. If you guys could tell me which location you didn't have plans for it'd be cooly-smoove. That way I could indulge my world building instincts, run Pathfinder, and not have to worry about continuity gaps and suchlike at the same time. How great would that be?
Pretty great from where I'm sitting.

I just want to clarify that we're not suggesting that the product is late because of Vincent. The primary reason for the delay on Adventure Gear 2 is that we prioritized the Rise of the Runelords Item Cards because we want them to come out while we're still publishing that AP.

Will there be a "Moon of Golarian" GameMastery Module in the new crop of GameMastery Modules for release sometime beyond April 2008? Will it have an ERB-type flair with Radium Pistols and Flying Ships?
| Hierophantasm |
Personally, I'd like to see some (more) GameMastery minis, more specifically ones that would be appropriate for key characters/creatures featured in the Pathfinder or GameMastery Modules series. No spoilers from me, but I'd love to get my hands on some minis of those awesome original creatures from D0: Hollow's Last Hope and D1: Crown of the Kobold King.

I'd like to see more info on how the races of Golarian differ from their 'traditional' counterparts. You've begun to touch on the elves, but I'd like to see some more info on the dwarves, gnomes, and halflings too!
Agreed and seconded. It seems like you're taking a very human-centric worldview (which I like), but I'd still like to know more about the non-humans given that they are still such a popular player choice. Right now, I've got two dwarves in the group, and they opted to grow up in Magnimar rather than Janderhoff because we have so little info.
Also, it's gravy if you make them communists...

Yes! I didn't mean to imply that Vincent is holding us up. He is not. We gave him the art later than anticipated and he can only make so much wonderful art in so much time. The only way to accelerate his production of art would be to make him work longer hours, and nobody wants that.

Do you have any plans to include any types of religious conflict in Golarion. Particularly anything where groups deny or refute the existence of other groups. Perhaps even people who don't believe in the gods?
Sean -
Erik alluded to the existence of a kingdom where religious belief is prohibited in the pathfinder chat on Tuesday night, so I'd say you'll be getting your wish.

How would you like to use Riddleport? Eg, would you like to set an adventure there, an adventure path? Should the town itself be the focus of an adventure (or storyline) or are nearby elements (for example the Cyphergate) more important than the town itself? How much was the idea of Riddleport influenced by other fantasy ports such as Scuttlecove, The Styes, Lankhmar, Freeport, Port Blacksand (anyone remember that one?) etc?
What if any world spanning (or at least large) non-human empires have existed in Golarian’s history (or pre-history)? How / why did they fall?

Well, I'm an old-school D&D guy. I started playing in 1980. My first world was Greyhawk. When I DM, it's the only world I run the campaign in. It's the first published, and still the best. I thoroughly despise the way WOTC keeps sweeping it aside for the Realms. Don't get me started on that one.
Alright, I have to rant for a minute. The original GDQ series had the portal to the Underdark clearly defined in the World of Greyhawk. It named specific geography (the Hellfurnaces and Geoff) and was verified in the WoGH boxed set ant hardback. The drow were first introduced in that series. IT IS IN GREYHAWK. Now, drow are not exclusive to GH, nor is their underground cavern lifestyle. The series, however is in GH. TSR and WOTC hijacked it and tried to tell us it's in the Realms. They did the same with Kara-Tur. DON'T RE-WRITE CANNON MATERIAL!!!! The D & Q mods happened in Greyhawk, dangit! Forget the overhyped, overmarketed Realms. Everyhting published before 1986 does NOT need to be ripped from cannon history and put in their "favorite child" of FR. KNOCK IT THE HECK OFF!!!!!!!! Stupid realm-luvin' fanboys.
Ok... sorry. I'm back, but I don't feel better.
In the DMG2, the town of Saltmarsh was thoroughly detailed. Hoody-hoo!!! Not only was that old-school nostalgia from the 1981 U-series of mods, it was incredibly useful. For non-Greyhawk players, simply change the town name and drop it on any coast with a nearby marshland and you're good to go.
THAT is what I'd shell out big bucks for. Develop semi-generic locations. Background, mapping, social ecosystems, history, etc are the hardest thing for me to develop. Give me a 32 page book with the location detailed with possible adventure hooks... dang.
Just to put icing on that particular cake, WOTC isn't currently supporting Greyhawk. If Paizo somehow obtained the license to develop the established locations... wow. To aid in that endeavor, there has been a wealth of development already done in the Living Greyhawk campaign. When the campaign ends next year, that info might be able to be harvested.
Now there are probably a ton of legal issues surrounding the GH setting that are likely to prevent development. That's OK. Suppliments and micro-settings as exemplified in the DMG2 Saltmarsh entry are well worth the effort as non-specific locations.

When will Pathfinder or GameMastery revisit Kaer Maga? This is my favourite place in Golarian (so far).
How often does Paizo plan to do "non-mainline" modules like the upcoming pharaohs module?
What is the likelihood of asking cartographers to create unlabeled (with numbers and secret doors) versions of their maps to make it easier for Paizo to provide them to customers?
What is the likelihood of map&art (please combine; going two places is annoying :D) gallery features like WOTC offers?
How well is Paizo doing as a company with the new product lines and what has been most successful?
What are the current weaknesses in the Pathfinder/GameMastery lines (i.e. what kinds of modules would you like to produce that you haven't had time to produce or haven't had submissions for)? I'm guessing one might be more science fantasy...
Wiki for Golarian has been mentioned. How will access work and what do you information do you see being on there? Additionally, will it be editable by any non-Paizo employees? And of course, what is the timeline?
Thanks a lot for all the direct interaction!
Edited to add question about wiki.

Unfortunately, Neville, that is not going to happen. WotC has made it perfectly clear to us that they have no desire to license out anything, including (and maybe especially) campaign settings.
I have no basis to know this for sure.. but I'd say that is where they're the most threatened Mike.
Role-playing have been around for years now and I think people are coming to realize that a good solid rule system is a good solid rules system, BUT THAT IS ALL IT IS.
Lots of great material can be present by many systems.
I represent a consumer that is after the quality campaign setting. I don't buy the system for it's own sake.
Next post I'll give some questions, as was actually requested.
| Watcher! |
1.) More product information. I know there is limits you can show people, you have to tease, but still sell it.. I'm not one of the 'Paizo gang' that has been around.. I'm the new customer that you hope to attract more of. I don't know what GameMastery cards are, I've never seen a Flip Chart. Yeah.. maybe I'm just one idiot, on the other hand.. a lot of this stuff I can't see in my local shop. So I'd like to get product previews. I acknowledge you've done well on a lot of stuff on the Blog, I'm just always looking for more. Rise of the RuneLord cards in particular. As I said in another thread, I'm curious if this is just a neat novelty, or will it really add $10 bucks of dynamite to my game? Give me a sales pitch!
2.) More race information in Pathfinder as said before
3.) More diety write-ups. Suggestion: identify the ones that players might want to have their characters worship, and maybe have some of that content in the Gazeteer. Save the less likely ones to be actively used by the players in semi-regular publication like the Pathfinder Chapters themselves. For example: Player characters might want to worship Sarenrae in the RoftRL active campaign. It stands to reason that having that before Lamashtu makes sense (speaking in generalities). Hence my suggestion, put the more typical player oriented gods in the Gazeteer for access to the players, and keep more unusual flavor-ish gods in the Chapters, like you already have with Lamashtu.
That's it for now!

Here's an interesting hypothetical guys, dredged from another thread:
If you guys had the opportunity to add a brand new, never seen before (though perhaps inspired by familiar things) PC race unique to Pathfinder, what kind of race would you make? Granted this is more a hypothetical "what if" to see how you guys tick sort of question...
I like the classical races fine, but I've always thought the setting specific races were fun and added a lot of flavor.

How about a colony of four-armed, 15-foot-tall, green aliens from Akiton, the Red Planet orbiting Golarion's star, who had grown somewhat used to Golarion's stronger gravity?

I agree - I would love to see minis of the creatures you are creating... The creepy little attic creature would be first on my list....

Even when I just see the avatar, it gives me the willies. I think it was adding the doll that really cranked it up a notch. Brilliant! Who came up with that?

I'll just say "yup" right now and save you the wait. :) Religion has, after all, been one of the main sources of conflict throughout history...

It is the city that the dungeon is in for Seven Swords of Sin.

Okay, something I'd like to see - an online index of useful citations, as in what sources contain information on specific locations, important NPCs, and cultural details. The sort of thing we could use to figure out what items to buy/read if we want all the relevant info on a specific topic.
e.g. "Kaer Maga: Seven Swords of Sin (setting of)"
"Sandpoint: Pathfinder 1 (map, fully detailed); RotR Player's Guide (map), Pathfinder 2-? (setting of)"
"Thassilon, history of: Pathfinder 1"
Something like that, anyway. (Or even, permission for us to create this kind of index. No detailed entries, just an index. And by "us" I mean someone who can actually program something like this, which means not me, although I'd be glad to help fill it in if someone else builds the database.)

I'm interested in this, too. I loved reading the mention here on the boards that the world of Pathfinder would (might?) have a "red" and/or "green" planet and am curious to see how this develops.
Also, I just started reading the John Carter of Mars series, and am really getting into the first book, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this kind of adventure setup might play out in Pathfinder products or GameMastery modules.

1)Can you leave an area of Golarion unlabeled but with a map and a position on the globe that DMs could develop themselves? Like a geographical map of mystery except it actually IS on the map. It would liven up the forums (as if they need it) to have people post what they are doing with it.
Nothing fancy. Nothing large.
2)Some Myths and legends for the major cultures... I mean the kind of story some Shoanti dude would tell around the campfire to his adventuring buddies. I don't mean that you should provide canonical creation explanations. I'll bet there are a bunch of guys in here who could write this stuff in their sleep, and it would make interesting fluff for a blog.
3)The planes are starting to sound interesting.... what gives? I'd love to read that and learn their effect on Golarion.
4)I'm dieing to find out a little more astronomical data on the moon and on Golarion's sibling worlds.
5)The time will come that we will need an index. This is especially necessary becaseu you are going to spread information around issue to issue in Pathfinder. I assume you guys are on top of this, because you are bright lads and compiling it as you go along is a lot easier than doing it all later. You are bright lads aren't you?
