Alrighty guys,
Here's the deal. I am fast becoming addicted to Pathfinder. I was flipping through the blog, seeing all these tempting Pathfinder products shipping in early 08. And I'm thinking to myself "Self. You want those Pathfinder products. But you hate making purchasing decisions and, perhaps most irrationally, you hate purchasing things over the internet."
So, in the interest of overcoming this piece of myself that would resist purchasing additional Pathfinder products, I wanted to come and ask for your assistance in tricking me into spending more money. A Pathfinder Deluxe subscription, would ensure you lovely Paizoians even more of my hard earned cash and me even more Pathfinder utility.
So what do you think? Can you push it up to the next price point for those of us willing to drop some disposable income on your products?
Thanks,
Sebastian

Until they answer you, Sebastian, I'd be willing to ah... "safeguard" that extra cash you've got there. Just to make sure you don't accidentally spend it on hookers and blow. I know how tempting SoCal can be.
Thanks FS, but my hookers and blow budget is completely separate from my gaming budget.

Not once you see our Summer Line-Up! (Just kidding.)Seb,
I have forwarded this to The Powers That Be and expect them to be visiting your question soon.
Thanks,
cos
Your're a genius cos!
Hookers + blow + D&D = BIG AMERICAN DANCE PARTY!
I love it.
Who is driving car? Oh no! Bear is driving car!!!

Woot!
And the hookers and blow?
God bless 'em, that's what.

This is great news. When I saw all the Pathfinder stuff on the way not part of the subscription I was concerned I'd forget about them when they do come out.

That's why I should never quote from memory. Thanks.
Sorry, I've got to fix your spoiler, too...
As for what this is from, it starts with a C and rhymes with Jerks, created by a man whose initials are KS and rhymes with Eleven Fifths.

This might just be the best thread ever - for both customer support and inane comments. You win the internet.
Woot! To mangle yet another quote: this is better than that time the prophet Mohammad gave me a fish helmet!
Here is a link to the clerks cartoon. I think it's not as good unless you've watched the whole season up to this point and, in particular, the rest of this episode. Not that there's continuity involved, it's just that you need to get into the Kevin Smith zone to appreciate it fully.

Tom Cruise! Oh no! You want the truth, you can't handle the truth! Show me the money!
Also, my personal favourite: "Why are we walking this way?" *Flower pot SMASH*
Now that that's out of the way...
Pathfinder Deluxe: Excellent idea. I can't say for sure that I'd subscribe, but it'd be nice for those who have the cash, to be sure there's no chance they'll miss anything.

So, offering a subscription to Pathfinder Chronicles is easy enough... but when it comes to *complete* complete, well, how complete is complete?
I assume that most people interested in such a sub would expect the Rise of the Runelords Item Cards to be part of it, and probably any Map Packs or Flip-Mats... but would you expect a T-shirt to be part of it? How about a variant cover to a book?

For me:
I'd like item cards, map packs, flip mats and the Chronicles.
T-shirts, not so much.
Variant book covers - no (unless you mean that we get the variant cover just for being the deluxe subscriber).

Well, you're going to love this, but how about a Pathfinder [Something] that gets you just the regular volumes plus all supplementary volumes (gazetteer, map folio, etc) and then a Pathfinder [Something Else] that gets you absolutely everything that has anything whatsoever to do with Pathfinder.
Thanks ;)
Edit: oooh, or a roll-your-own - when you sign up, you check off your preferences for what's included in your "Deluxe" subscription. Harder to code, but covers a lot more bases. And subscribers could update their selections whenever they felt like spending (or saving) money.

So each time we announce a new product, you have to decide whether you want it or not? That's functionally identical to just having you preorder everything you want separately, which you can already do.

Yeah, I'm not down with that.
Mostly I want the pdfs. That's a significant factor in my decision. But, I'd also like the item cards and such.
And, I wouldn't mind a discount on such a subscription...

Or, have a radio box that will say "Yes" or "No" for the next 3 products to ship. This would give the subscriber plenty of time to determine if they want an item.
Database wise, wouldn't be too difficult to maintain and should be easy enough to "ship over" to the "check out queue" or whatever you would use to bill the account.

I think this would be a great solution. Personally, I am mainly interested in the supplementary volumes (gazetteer, map folio) and was just looking for a subscription for that.

Nope! I just meant it sounds like the various Pathfinder products could be grouped into a few product "lines" - the AP volumes, supplementary volumes, toys, clothing/accessories, etc.
If the subscription page allowed you to check off the combination of product lines you'd want to subscribe to (not individual products themselves) that should be flexible enough to serve most customers' needs and wouldn't require the creation of multiple, pre-determined specialized subscription types to account for various combinations of things.
That's all :)

Because of the whole life thing [kid, car payments etc etc etc] Pathfinder monthly is my sole RPG purchase each month. Now I am not making any accusation or anything at Paizo when I say this. it is annoying for me to see all these cool add on products coming which are not included in the sub. I'm not worried about shirts and stuff, but those books which The monster guide, the Guide to Korvosa etc. I'd like to see something in place that would be mutually beneficial to both the consumer and Paizo.

Celeblas |

Personally I'd like to see any product included that also can provided in pdf format. That would include things like the Korvosa Guidebook or the Map Folio but not Item Cards or T-Shirts.
The free pdf versions are the main reason I finally decided to subscribe to Pathfinder and GameMastery Modules and therefore I'd love to see a subscription for additional Pathfinder supplements that includes free pdf versions of those products.
Poor Gary. This deluxe subscription stuff will mean a lot of work for him. Has Paizo ever considered cloning their Postmonster General? ;)

So each time we announce a new product, you have to decide whether you want it or not? That's functionally identical to just having you preorder everything you want separately, which you can already do.
I suggested this in another thread, how about letting our Pathfinder subscription be more versatile. Like GameMastery, let us preorder/order stuff and select a "Hold my XXX to ship with my Pathfinder subscription." This way people can preorder all the goodness and have it ship with their real subscriptions.
This also means you guys can setup subscriptions to certain ongoing product lines similar how you have it setup with GameMastery modules. So people could subscribe to the cards, for example, and every time a new card set is released, the person is billed a standard cover fee (like the GameMastery modules.) Granted the cards might be a bad example, but you get the idea.

Drop the T-Shirt, but I'd say make other subscriptions based on the current product line categories.
Pathfinder Deluxe = Everything you add to the page of Pathfinder products.GameMastery Deluxe = Everything you add to the page of GameMastery Modules.
And so on for Item Cards, Maps, Accessories, and Compleat Encounters.
The only change would be shifting the t-shirts and similar products (soda mugs and what not) to their own category.
In fact, you could probably take the whole thing to a cable TV package theme:
Pathfinder Basic - Pathfinder subscription
Pathfinder Dexlue - Add GameMastery Module subscription
Pathfinder Silver - Add GameMastery Item Carts subscription
Pathfinder Adamantine - Every Paizo Product plus the Sebastian Party Pack (OK, maybe not the Party Pack)
Then maybe tag in an "On Demand" section to order some items from product lines you aren't subscribed to, or to get extras of ones you are subscribed to. (Add a t-shirt to the next shipment, or get a second card set, or what not.)

Personally, I'm only interested in the Pathfinder Chronicles right now (in addition to the normal Pathfinder, of course). But if they're going to make a "deluxe" subscription of some sort, it should be something along the lines of a checkbox for each of the additional monthly or bi-monthly books. For one-offs (like t-shirts or mugs) or things with a sporadic release schedule (like the cards), there could be a box to send an email or something. Like this:
- [] Pathfinder Chronicles - $17.99
[] Pathfinder Map Folio - $14.99
[] Pathfinder Next Cool Thing - $2.99
[] Send email for new or unusual items
That way you could pick and choose which you wanted. And if Paizo came out with a new line later (or decided to discontinue a line) they could just added it to the list without having to create a whole new subscription level. This would also prevent a flood of different subscription levels, or forcing people to choose between a level that might not have everything they want versus a level that has more than they need.
Slightly off-topic, I'd also like to see a fourth option for the Pathfinder/GameMastery combined shipping: Hold either until the both are available. Currently, if I decide to hold my Pathfinder subscription until the next GameMastery module is ready, it might end up waiting a month before it ships. In the meantime, a second Pathfinder module may have been released. Will that one wait a month also, or will both be shipped with the next GameMastery module?

So... any news on the Pathfinder Chronicles "Super Tiger Edition" subscription?
'Cause I've got money.
I'm sure you want it.
Help me help you.
Since it's clear that different people want different things, we think the best solution is just to offer subscriptions to the Pathfinder Chronicles line. (That itself is kind of strange, because those products don't come out on a regular schedule, and won't always be the same format, meaning that both the price and the shipping price may change from release to release.)
Adding that subscription covers almost all of the products we've currently announced—the few that aren't covered, like the Rise of the Runelords Item Cards, can be ordered separately. (In the future, you'll be able to ship things like that with your subscription to save some money, but that's not ready yet.)

Two questions:
1. Will we get pdfs of Pathfinder Chronicles with the subscription?
2. Will we get a discount?
Those are the two basic components of a subscription that add value to me beyond the memory issues.
Thanks,
Sebastian

I agree with Sebastian.
I am not into item cards, but if I'd like to have some, I can still order them separately. It's different for the material available in printed and in .pdf form. I would like to get other printed Pathfinder products in printed and in pdf form without having to pay twice for them. (That would be the Pathfinder Chronicles product line, wouldn't it?.
And same as Sebastian, I would like to know that .pdf versions of all pathfinder chronicles products are included... without having to pay more than by single order. :-))
(odd, another time I seem to agree with Sebastian... :p)
Greetings,
Günther

Free .pdf's for the Chronicles line would be the reason for me to convert to deluxe subscriber.
We're not talking about a deluxe subscription as such—it's more of an a la carte thing, offering separate subscriptions to Pathfinder, Pathfinder Chronicles, and GameMastery Modules. So you can get more easily what you want, and not what you don't want.
The Pathfinder Chronicles subscription will be like the GameMastery Modules subscription—the products won't be discounted, but subscribers will get a free PDF. And you'll be able to combine them with your other subscription products to save on shipping.
Gary's still got some work to do on that front, but Chronicles subscriptions should nonetheless be available before the first two products come out in January.

Cool ,that is great news, thanks Vic (and Gary). Although I hope Gary isn't working as flat out to get this done as he was for the Pathfinder / Gamemastery subscriptions. He really needs an assistant.

I thank you and Gary and the rest of Paizo for these wonderful subscription offers! I think the printed versions are the best, but I very much like the convenience of referencing the PDFs on the computer as well.
As soon as the Pathfinder Chronicles subscription options and Wish Lists are available, I plan on ordering a bunch (more) of your products!
