I know at least 2 of the regulars on this forum have recently had some fairly grievous medical things come up (specifically Lilith's emergency appendectomy and Utak's being shot at work), and I wondered if it would be possible to set up a system to donate something to our friends in the recovery ward.
Just the ability to donate a few dollars to their accounts so they can pick up a few things from their favorite hangout might brighten their day, speed their recovery, and of course recover some much needed Karma points for the giver.

Damn, this is the first I've heard of either of these two unfortunate events.
My thoughts go out to them both.
While I think this is a very good idea, and would support it, it might be hard to carry out in reality.
Some system would need to be set up to collect, monitor, and distribute the money appropriately. All at expense to Paizo....when frankly, this isn't their responsibility. Perhaps personal get well wishes/gifts to the specific person would be more appropriate??
(Before anyone jumps on me, let me reiterate, I *DO* think this is a very good idea. I just don't know about the practicality of it all.)

First off CRAP! Are then okay?
As far as setting something up (recently some people I know did something similar). Basically I don't think any one at Paizo can offically do anything (I might be wrong). But if someone with pay pal volunteered to set something up, odds are that would be the easiest way.

I was thinking maybe putting an item into the store, named after the recipient. Value 1$,so if you want to donate 5 you just pick 5 as the quantity. Then instead of shipping us something, or letting us download something, it would just put a credit into whoever's account.
BTW, I assume I didn't violate anyone's privacy since they have both posted their situations elsewhere on this forum.

Wow. I had heard about Lilith's appendectomy but I must've missed Utak's statement. Best wishes to both of them.
It sounds like what Drag is suggesting is basically like an incremental gift card system. Basically, people would be chipping in "Paizobucks" that the recipients could use to purchase items from the store (or at least use as credit towards a larger purchase). I think it sounds like a great idea, but I'm sure there is some significant difficulty involved in establishing a system like this. Perhaps Paizo could make gift cards available through the online store and manage things that way?

Any body at Paizo have any idea if this is even possible?
Not sure how many of them (if any) are in the office this week as Gen Con starts Thursday and I know a lot of times people from companys head out at least a day or 2 before. And are running around like mad men before they leave, we might not hear anything until next week.

At this point, unfortunately, no.
We've been wanting to get a gift card/gift certificate model in place for a while now, but things just kept coming up. : / The good news is that we will be putting this kind of functionality in place soon... ish.

This is very much the case.
However, I pretty sure that I can speak for the whole company by saying that Utak and Lilith are very much in our thoughts and prayers right now and we wish them both a speedy recovery.
Thanks,
cos

As far as Lilith is concerned:
She has been released to Fly so she plans on attending GenCon. I have personal feelings about this fact but there is no justifiable reason not to allow her to attend. She is still at the 5lb limit for the next 4 weeks.
I did not hear about the guy getting shot? at work...I sincerely hope he is getting better and my prayers...for what they are worth...go out to him.

Wow, I am always amazed at how a gaming community can come together. Thank you for your kind words. I am actually doing much better than you may think. The bullet missed anything important, and believe or not, I should be back at work by mid next week (at least for half days). Maybe I'm nuts but I love my job. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Dragonmann, you truely are a good soul for starting this thread. My prayers go out for Lilith. To health and a quick recovery.

It is good to hear that you are okay. I agree with the concept of your getting enough XP to get the Dodge feat

Excuse me for my ignorance but what's a emergency appendectomy ???
An appendectomy is the surgical removal of one's appendix. An "emergency appendectomy," therefore, is one such surgery committed in haste in order to preserve the health of the patient.
For example, say an issue of Pathfinder was about to go to the printer, but James Jacobs noticed at the last second that the approved book was 3 pages over the printing limit for the volume. If James raced down to the delivery room, scooped up the manuscript, and ripped out the 3-page appendix at the back of the book in order to make the volume within printable limits again only minutes before the shipment left the office to the printer, that would be an "emergency appendectomy."
I'm kidding about the second paragraph.

Wikipedia's got a pic and all.
Hope Lillith & Utak are on the mend and making their antibiotic saves.

I am on the mend, Fortitude saves made and the Heal checks made by captramses for post-op care were successful (he had several bonuses to his checks ;) ).
Utak, glad to hear you're getting better. When I can, I'll be sure to have a mug o' ale to ya. :)

Yes Lilith, please do get better. I suffered from the same thing about 10 years ago. It's pretty horrible. I don't know if it is common, but it seemed to me that I had a lot of toxic fallout afterwards due to the late state of my appendicitis. I was knocked down by 102-104 degree fevers for three days at a time, every two weeks (like clockwork) for 2 months after the surgery. Hopefully you won't have any problems like that, but forewarned is forearmed. Make sure you're being nice to your immune system for the next little while.
My best wishes go out to both you and Utak. (Thankfully I have nothing about which to commiserate with Utak! Egads!)

It can get that bad depending on the state of your appendix - fortunately, mine was caught early. I'll keep an eye on things, though, just in case.
