I'm in for Pathfinder, guys!

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Hello Paizo and fans.

I've just heard the sad news and me and my dearest are completely devastated. Dragon and Dungeon are both institutions of gaming, and I really can't express the sadness I feel rushing through my heart right now.

I'm also happy Paizo moves on with new projects and endeavors. Erik, James, Josh, everyone: I'm in, guys. I'm going to support and help with Pathfinder. I already converted my "credit" with Paizo.

Please relay my compliments and admiration to all the staff. You guys rock. You should be proud of your accomplishments!

Benoist.

well, as Is obvious by the little thing next to my name, I'm in.

I'll figure out how to get teh wife's approval for this monthly expenditure later.

Good thing I just quit WoW last month...

Yeah, I will give pathfinder at least a try as well. As we are spoiled by Dungeon and Dragon from paizo over the last few years, it better be good... ;-))

Honestly, I got no doubt that the paizo crew will do their best - which is quite something, as they have shown already.

Stefan

I am in too. I am so looking foreward to what the Guys and Girls at Paizo can do without having their hands tied behind their back by WotC. ~sighs~ I will still miss Beholders, Mind Flayers, and the rest however.

Just so long as this thing includes stuff like cool monsters and interesting prestige classes in its material. That's one of the main reasons I read Dragon. The Adventures might be cool too, plus those can be adapted, I guess. I just hate seeing Dungeon and Dragon go...

I've already talked to the Paizo guys about writing articles for Pathfinder. I'm looking forward to it. :)

I can't wait for the submission guidelines, Sean! Can't wait for them, indeed. ;)

I am saddened by this too but am very happy to see Paizo land on their feet and have a new publication in the wings. I have no doubts it will the high quality that we've been seeing from Duneon and Dragon the last five years. I hope that a magazine for players is being considered too unless some sort of non-compete is getting in the way.

I'm in too!!

Paizo has put out the greatest issues that Dungeon and Dragon have ever seen and I've happily subscribed to both since the mags were revamped some years back.

This sounds blasphemous (even to me!) but the truth is that I only run pre-published adventures as a DM and Pathfinder will probably be of more direct use to me than the two magazines--and I like the book format better. I can't wait for my first volume to arrive!

Yeah, I'm definitely excited to see what Pathfinder has to offer.

Am I correct in thinking that converting credit from my Dragon and Dungeon subscriptions and ticking the "start me on a month-to-month subscription" option is what gets me Charter Subscriber status? It's not showing up that way as far as I can tell.

I'm pretty excited to see what Pathfinder has to offer, and although I can't sign up yet (money) I am really thrilled by this new magazine. Well, goodbye Dragon and Dungeon, your good information has given me more then a few adventure ideas, and your adventures themselves have always helped me.

Well, that is about it...one more thing. If anyone can even have a sliver of hope of getting us back up from this tragedy, it is Paizo!!! Go Paizo, keep us in good spirits with your new magazine, you can do it!

Best Wishes,
Sir Smashes Alot

You guys are the best company on the web--the way you respond to your customers and keep us foremost in your thoughts. Not a single person from Wizards has posted on their boards on the firestorm their decision has raised over there.

I'm sorry this happened. Losing these magazines is like losing a best friend. I don't think Wizards realizes how much emotional attachment many of us old timers have to these products...how much new copies of the magazines warm our hearts...how I kept up my subscription even when I wasn't gaming.....

The more I think about it, the sadder I get. I think a lot of us are signing on with Pathfinder because we know you will carry on the legacy and the heritage of quality and fun that Dungeon and Dragon represents for us.

Pathfinder? Sure I'm in, anything to support our friends at Paizo in these dark times. My transfered Dungeon subscription gives me one free pathfinder, I'll have to find a way to support you after that though (which is not to easy living off summer jobs a allowence.) But I do hope it gets on it's feet to keep Paizo in head!

I hear this sort of thing a lot. I think those continuing devotion to these long running magazines has brought a lot of people back into the game. And would probably do so again when 4th Ed is released (I know I probably never would have converted to 3E if it wasnt for Dungeon).

I think WoTC might be making a mistake with this decision.

No matter how good the new stuff like Pathfinder is (and I have no doubt that it will be good) it just doesn't have the history, nostalgia value and (possibly) loyalty that went with the magazines.

All I can say to what farewell2kings said is "Hell yes, you are right!". Followed up by "Go Paizo! Go Paizo!! Go Paizo!!!"

Doing that should have led you into a checkout process after you submitted your selection. It doesn't look like you completed that process....

Hey, I've got some money freed up now that I'm buying 2 less mags a month. My Wizards boycott frees up some cash, too. So you know I'm down for this. Thanks Paizo! Looking forward to it!

I had to "update my shopping cart" in order to get there.

While I haven't gamed as long as some of Board Lords, 95% of my gaming experience has been with Dungeon and Dragon Magazines. F2K expressed my sentiment more eloquently than I ever could.

Onrie--I paid for my first Dragon subscription in 1981 by mowing lawns and cleaning the pool at the apartments where I lived. I was 14 years old. YOU CAN DO IT!!! Keep the faith, my young friend.

What Vic said. We're going to review the transition page code and text tomorrow to make sure the process is as obvious and easy as possible.

Vic,

I think you guys at Paizo have done so much over the years for D&D and our* gaming hobby. When you respect your supporters and customers like you (paizo) have, you will get that respect back and I believe that has been shown today (since the Dragon/Dungeon/Pathfinder announcement).

Best Regards
Sam Phipps (Herremann the Wise)

*Thank you for realising, appreciating and understanding that it is "our" hobby. Something that I think with their announcement, WotC has lost sight of.

Everyone at Paizo: Thank you for your great products and dedication!

I'm in for the ride on Pathfinder!

Although I'm sad to see Dungeon and Dragon go, I must say that I actually think this is a good thing for Paizo, since they no longer have to change a really cool idea, just because someone at WotC thought it was too setting specific, to a slightly less cool idea (see AoW). I'm really looking forward to my first issue of Pathfinder.

Keep up the good work everyone at Paizo, I'm sticking with you :)

I'll be checking out Pathfinder, too. Thing is, while I understand why Paizo wants out of the "magazine" model, I really, really, -REALLY- want a magazine.

I want it to be on the stands at B&N -- in the magazine section, not sequestered off in the "fandom" section.

I want it to be in the FLGS.

I want it to be in the libraries.

I want it to talk about the whole industry, even if it's primarily content for one specific company.

I want it to have ADS for gaming companies, miniatures, companies, and small little vendors that I'd never hear of any other way.

I want it to have a letters column.

I want it to have comics.

There is so very very much more to a magazine than "just" the articles!

Looks like it worked. Thanks, guys.

I'm still very much on the fence about subscribing to Pathfinder. I know that it will have top-notch art, writing and cartography because I've come to expect the best from the folks at Paizo, but I just read the story outlines...and they're terrible. Maybe it's just the marketroid-speak that's leaking through but I don't see anything exciting about killing goblins, then ogres, then giants, then an evil lich. I thought you guys were going to go with all-new and original monsters? If you're unchained from the fetters of WotC why does the Pathfinder series seem so generic and bland?

I subscribed to Dungeon and Dragon because they offered several things: a huge variety of short adventures that I could select from (I disliked 50% of them, liked 40% and loved 10%); comics; news via First Watch and niche ads; a sense of community from the letters, rules answers, rule options, and campaign workbooks (loved the 101 of X collections); and detailed insight into D&D places (Planescape, Greyhawk) and things (Demons) that connect to existing D&D worlds. All for an incredibly low price!

Now all I would be getting is essentially a high-quality, serialized adventure book for a much higher price in a new untested world that has no connection to existing D&D lore. I already have plenty of long, large and high-quality adventures and I don't need any more. I want all the other things I mentioned, and it doesn't look like I'll be getting them in Pathfinder.

As for the new world, that's cool and all but I've already invested a lot of time in a) my own world b) Eberron c) Planescape and d) Greyhawk. I know that Paizo is doing their best with a bad hand, but Pathfinder seems so completely different from what I have come to expect from Dungeon & Dragon that I don't know if I'll be interested at all. The comparison to Red Hand of Doom is even worse since I recently played that module and it was one of the most hackneyed and boring bits of endless combat I've ever seen, pretty interior art notwithstanding.

So, I hope Pathfinder is a big success because I want Paizo to be successful, but it's something completely different from the two magazines I've grown to love. If anybody has good counterarguments to what I said, or if I'm mistaken about something, please let me know.

Me too. I converted my remaining Dungeon subscription over to Pathfinder.

Thank you Paizo for giving us this option.

I am already working on the translation into German. :)

Quoted for truth. That pretty much sums it up for me.

Even though I only have subscribed Dungeon for about a year, I am pretty excited and confident about Pathfinder.

With the conversion I get two issues (did not have much left on Dungeon). If I do the month to month subscription, it will pick up after these two "free" ones, correct? And do I get the free players guide?

There will be those, along with some new twists on classic monsters. For an idea of what I mean by that, check out Friday's entry in the Pathfinder Blog in a few hours.

The adventure will generally take up about 50 pages in each volume. The rest will help define the campaign world, and more. You may find some of the content has things in common with some of the things you expected to find in Dragon.

If you want short adventures, check out the GameMastery Modules line of 32-page adventures.

The *size* of the product is the thing that's similar to Red Hand of Doom. The content is very different.

You're correct—purchasing the month-to-month sub means that it picks up seamlessly after the free issues, and it also means that you're a Charter Subscriber and get the free Player's Guide.

My subscription to Dungeon ran out exactly at issue #150, so I got no credit. But I wasn't about to let a little thing like that stop me, so I'm now a proud member of the Pathfinder Charter Subscribers.

Cool.

Looking forward to the Rise of the Runelords adventure. Savage Tide has been a blast so far, but RotR sounds very much like my kind of campaign, and with exactly the right change in flavor after I finish buckling my swash.
