Dragon and Dungeon Transition Discussion

I just renewed my subscription of Dragon for a year. That's bad timing.

I have to say, it's kind of sad that WotC didn't let Paizo continue, as they've REALLY picked up the quality over the last year, and with the new Eberron content, I've been really excited every month to see what little gems of Eberron goodness are being offered. And now...that all ends in September.

It's been good, Dungeon and Dragon, I hope WotC realizes how retarded they are and gives Paizo another shot.

Why the switch?

Wizards of the Coast decided not to renew our license for Dragon and Dungeon. Since we have no intention of folding up shop, we've introduced a number of products that will offer similar content to our loyal (and much appreciated) readership.

Not really... if you check out your transition options, you'll find that you can get more than your money's worth back....

Well, if I could see anything besides

every time I refresh, I guess I could check that out.

Honestly, I'll probably just end up getting back issues from before I could afford to subscribe.

I wonder why. It seemed like Dungeon and Dragon had quite a few subscribers, and was on the upswing in Paizo's hands.

Also, who's going to be writing the articles?

Sorry about that—you hit a bug in the new code, which has been fixed.

This is one of the the worst ideas in the long, sad history of bad ideas.

Sure my Dragon mag often fails to arrive (MIA: 353 & 354) but I still look forward to it every day and love it when it does come.

Bummer.

This is almost like losing an old friend. I'm generally reluctant to buy OGL/D20 products (too many bad ones in the early day), but I'll make an exception for Paizo. Your stuff was too good for WotC to continue to allow you to compete with them under the D&D brand, apparently.

As stated in the news release, Wizards of the Coast wants to concentrate its efforts in the online arena. Beyond that you'll have to ask them.

Pathfinder's authors include James Jacobs, Wolfgang Baur, Richard Pett, Nicolas Logue, Greg Vaughan, and Steve Greer. The same folks plus more (like me, for instance) will be contributing articles to the back of Pathfinder and whole adventures to our new line of GameMastery Modules.

Wayne Reynolds is on board to do the covers for every issue of the Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path.

Basically, we'll be using the same authors and artists we've been using and will always be on the lookout for new talent we haven't discovered yet.

Thanks, Russ. I really appreciate that point of view.

My only question is what's Senior Brand Manager Scott Rouses email address att WotC so I can deluge his inbox with my vehement displeasure at their "new direction."

Of all the Wizards products and resources Dungeon and Dragon magazine have been my favorite. I've been subscribing for over 12 years and I cannot fathom not having both magazines to page through every month. I've been culling fanatstic adventures, articles, houserules, magic items, spells, and monster from your magazine since High School! If nothing else Dungeon and Dragon have made me a better player and DM raising my Craft (Dungeon) and Knowledge (dungeoncraft) skills to new heights.

The last few years of Dungeon and Dragon have been the best the magazine has ever been in my long history of reading them. Kudos to the whole staff!

Erik:
This is such a serious disappointment. You guys did such a fantastic job.

I could say something really bitter about you guys outshining WotC's crap, but that might not be appropriate and might too accurately demonstrate what many people are thinking. :|

Thank you for all the great work on those magazines.

We're all looking forward to the rest of your materials.

Good luck with Pathfinder and your other new endeavours. I will be buying them of course, as I have been buying Dragon and Dungeon for the past 7 years straight (I know, 2 of which were pre-Paizo). I trust Paizo. WotC... not so much, sorry to be rude.

Thanks for all the work y'all have done for two iconnic magazines. My money will still come your way.
