Serpents of Scuttlecove ***SPOILER****

Savage Tide Adventure Path

Dark Archive

I have a verry big suspicion that our old eladrin friend celeste is going to pop up somewhere in scuttlecove. But maybe it's just me.

Hmmm - what makes you think that?

Sort of a twist on having another outsider (the half fiend nymph thrall of Grazzt whose name escapes me) pop up to "help" in Porphyry House Horror?

Or just about time we saw Celeste?

I'm hoping she'll know/introduce that awakened whale druid from the first epic module in Dungeon.

Maybe not, though. She did have a fairly piratey costume in The Champion's Belt. I could also see Todd Vanderboren put in a cameo. So might Loris Raknian or Capt. Okoral.

I too was wondering if and when we might get a Celeste appearance...

Because even if none is planned, I certainly will find a way to work her into my own campaign. She's become quite the significant player in my group's runs through Shackled City and Age of Worms (even marrying one of the Shackled City PCs!!) - to the point where it wouldn't really feel like a sequel if she wasn't around.

Celeste will be appearing in Savage Tide.

I'm not going to spoil where or when or how she appears, though! :)

That's enough for me! :)

Hooray! I do like her appearances in the APs, it should be interesting to see how she has adapted in this AP so as to fit in with the locale.

Perhaps in Enemies of my Enemy. (Not sure if the title is correct, as I don't have issue #138 with me.

In which dungeon was this?

I know of just two epic.. the stormking (though that was the first one!), and later the quicksilver hourglass.

That would be "Razing of Redshore" in the issue just before "Storm King." It was for 20th level characters, but was meant as a transition to epic level (as in the PCs should hit level 21 halfway through "Redshore"). The adventure certainly used a lot of material from the Epic Level Handbook, in any event.

Does anyone want to help out someone feeling very foolish and explain who Celeste is?

Liberty's Edge

She's a recurring NPC from the previous APs (Shackled City and Age of Worms). Trying to avoid spoilers, she hires the PCs for a mission early in the SCAP then mysteriously disappears. She shows up again halfway through AoW, helping out a powerful wizard.

Paizo Employee Creative Director

Yeah... she's basically been used in the previous Adventure Paths as a "plot propulsion NPC" who shows up to get an adventure going.

Her role in Savage Tide will be far more active.

Yeah, even though I'm happily married, I must admit a great affection for Celeste.

(That she has levels in bard only makes her sexier!)

I had a post-Age-of-Worms game where she led a diversionary army against the Spire of Kyuss, and was never heard from again.
I'm going to be happy to spring her on the players once more!

Visiting the eladrin court will probably have nothing to do with it, I suppose.

It's got to be as a courtier or ally. A bard should be able to sing backup as well as play the disguised spy. After 3 campaigns, the players deserve to know the truth, and this happens towards the end of AP3, so my money says she'll be in full Klingon regalia, as it were. An other reasonable possibility is helping with the prison break, but while chaotic, it might not be good enough for her superiors, so I doubt it.

For SOS, how about that whale druid? Loris Raknian or maybe Capt. Okorral? Zeech's daughter, looking to get away from her northern homelands? Captain Javell is a no-brainer, but I hope she's not the only one.

Let the speculation on who's in AP4 COMMENCE! Do feytouched humans have diffferent age categories from normal humans? Also, I'll guess cover girl Tyralandi, since at least one prominent cathedral of Wee Jas has been in all 3 APs. If history is any guide, AP4 will need at least 1 spell weaver, probably as a miniboss, rather than a mook.

Loris Raknian will be re-appearing at some point before the year is out.

He won't necessarilly be re-appearing in Dungeon, though...

How's that for a vexing hint?

I take that to mean that Zogonia: Slice of Death, Downer: Wandering Monster, and Dragon: Monster Ecologies are appetizers for the long awaited AOW Hardback. Sounds great!

If the awakened whale druid is being left out because no one's thought of a reason to include him, I'd suggest this:

It's possible that at the end of SOS, the PCs react to the idea of strapping a "gate engine" to their beloved ship only to plunge headlong into the Abyss with "H*ll no!" This isn't an unreasonable idea; they may have gotten the idea that the Sea Wyvern should be kept on the prime to interdict the distribution of pearls, or just to serve as flagship in a mass battle against the Crimson Fleet (not unreasonable since mass battle rules were used in TOD). They might have become quite attached to it, since it was their first big score, as well. In this case, Captain Javell introduces the PCs to her sometimes-backer in piracy, the whale druid. He suggests rich ships he wouldn't be sad to see go to Davy Jones, and she pays him a fair share of the loot. He offers to go with the PCs to the Abyssian Ocean and guard their ship during Into the Maw, in return for a favor to be named later. Since he's aquatic and 20th level, this should look like a good deal for the PCs. If the PCs aren't sure he's up to the task, I'm sure tales of an elemental swarm + storm of vengeance, or even a demonstration on some hapless mooks, should be up to the task. (I'd say he asks them to clear Golismorga of the aboleth menace when he finds out about it. As he runs in epic circles, DMs could also use him for any number of other epic adventures after STAP. You could even run Razing of Redshore and replace Redshore with Sasserine.) If the PCs still don't want to take the Sea Wyvern to the Abyss, have him suggest they strap the gate engine to a Crimson Fleet ship they hijack in Scuttlecove.
