...lots of cool stuff...

I saw QOTSA about twelve years ago and it was hugely disappointing: they doubled the length of every song with noodley soloing which left me cold.

Mars Volta did something similar.

I can see that noodling in some of the youtube clips. I only had 'Welcome to Sky Valley' from Kyuss. Mostly for Demon Cleaner and then I lost track of Homme until Feel Good Hit of the Summer. I didn't see em live until 2011, then not again until last year. But they've tightened up and go with the flow.

Mars Volta and Sunn 0)))) I cant get into, yet.

Mars Volta's gateway drug is the Tremulant EP, first thing they did and has hints of At The Drive-In lurking in the corners.

I'd love to see QOTSA really kick it.

Melvins was the best gig I went to where a band just rocked hard for an hour and played all of their crowd-pleasers.

This weekend I have listened to a radio show twice, because I enjoyed it so much.
Stuart Maconie's guide to No Wave.

I just realized that the "Golem at the top of the page" motif thing is over. :(

Kraftwerk before they became Kraftwerk?!? A radio show on No Wave?!? Man, I wish I wasn't stuck back on page 124.

This post lends some evidence to my working theory that you're secretly Henry Rollins.

Thank you, but I am not Henry Rollins.

Women impressed by men who condemn their taste in music

"WOMEN have confirmed that nothing gets them hotter than men vigorously criticising the music they listen to.

"Researchers at the Institute for Studies found that women experience strong sexual impulses towards men who glance through their iTunes playlist while mouthing the words ‘s#!~, s&$+, s$+#’.

"When condemnation of their favourite artists is then followed up with recommendations of obscure beard rock albums, most women are unable to stop themselves initiating sexual intercourse."

Can - "Vitamin C"
Ritchie Valens - "Sleepwalk"
The Gaslight Anthem - "Here's Looking At You, Kid"

Trying to get that stupid annoying repetitive overplayed Mumford & Sons song out of my head -- on the radio YET AGAIN this morning.

Which made me wonder why I dislike them, and I suspect it has something to do with the reasons I really, really can't stand Dave Matthews, but I can't quite put my finger on any of those reasons.

Ooo, Can, The Beach Boys, Magazine, The Dead!!!, I can't wait to listen to all this great music three weeks from now!

In addition to more Golem and more Joy Division (I decided that my all time fave JD song is Interzone), I've been spinning another soul comp that came with an issue of Mojo, like, 15 years ago or something that I might as well link up even though it's not yet quite Friday.

Some bad-ass chicks:

Maxine Brown
Bettye Swann
Tina Turner
Little Ann

Also, I've been working on a sex mix tape. It's not done yet, but don't worry, I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

Joe Henderson, at the moment

I also keep watching this live video of Deep Purple doing 'Burn' - great stuff, but still not sure what the song's about. My guess would be space hookers, or possibly gonorrhea.

And 'Yiddische Hula Boy' by Janet Klein

The sound of my son's live in gf actually doing something to help out around the house.

It's about a witch who burned things like people and towns. The gonorrhea metaphor could be a possibility, though. Them boys wuz clever like that.

Also, as I mentioned somewhere up above, I've got Soul Journey on my MP3 player for work. Also, I taped my Freedom LP and have been playing it in my car. So, I'm sorry, but this was inevitable:
