A lot of feats and abilities from Ultimate Combat say "If you use the attack action to make a single melee attack at your highest base attack bonus [then X happens]" or something similar.
Does that mean it can be combined with feats like Vital Strike, which require attack actions? The curious wording makes me think it is intended as a rider effect rather than a "you must use this action [to gain this benefit]" which wouldn't be compatible/synergistic.
For example, Felling Smash says the following:
If you use the attack action to make a single melee attack at your highest base attack bonus while using Power Attack and you hit an opponent, you can spend a swift action to attempt a trip combat maneuver against that opponent.
Another example would be Gory Finish, which states:
When you use the attack action, you can use a weapon with which you have Weapon Focus to make a single attack at your highest base attack bonus. If you reduce your target to negative hit points, you can spend a swift action to make an Intimidate check to demoralize all foes within 30 feet who could see your attack.
If I am using my attack action for Vital Strike, than I am using an attack action and therefore qualify for the above ability. Right?
