It is the fact that:A) they take the name of someone who could very much be called a national icon and give it to some crazed assassin.
B) They use it in an actual official publication.
Now, I don't know where Lassiviren originated. probably in someones home campaign, but Paizo did publish him later as 'critical threat' and for that they should be ashamed. Yes, I known finnish names get abused a lot, such as 'Eloranta' in Dungeon adventure 'Practical Magic'. How about giving it a rest?
Lassiviren was originally published in 1e Rogues Gallery as a character. Accompanying image is here: http://paratime.ca/v_and_v/pics/jeffdee/roguesgallery01.jpg

And Kyuss...I mean, I could easily see an alternate STAP based on fleeing the mainland after the Age of Worms occurs...
Heh... interesting you should say that, as one of our initial ideas for this adventure path (before we hit upon involving the Isle of Dread) was to have it be a "Flee the motherland for parts unknown" campaign that tied in to the events at the end of Age of Worms. We decided against this, since it seemed weird to base AP3 on the assumption that AP2 had ended poorly for the previous batch of PCs...

OK someone already said it but yes Warduke would be an awesome addition, but along that theme what about whats his face... Strongheart the Paladin... ok, maybe not.
Any of the surviving Circle of Eight would be welcome to make an appearance, especially Mordenkainen.
Other guesses mentioned or not...
Fraz Ur Blu (or however the heck that is spelled)
Iggwilv
Grazzt
Pazzuzu
Iuz
Orcus
I wonder if we will see His Most Ferocious Majesty The Despot Turrosh Mak of the Pomarj?
Someone mentioned old Lassiveren, I wonder if we shall see Erac's Cousin? (First edition Rogues Gallery). Just had to through that obscure reference out there... :)

How about grown-up versions of the kids from the D&D cartoon? I know they've popped up a few other places: D&D computer games, horrible Forgotten Realms free comic, but I think it would be cool to see them play a part in the coming AP. They could be a rival group like Khellek, Tirra, and Auric in the AoW.

That would be great! I love nods (no matter how small) to the origins of the game :)

I always wondered about that characters name Erac's cousin-was he Cousin to Erac and if so did he have a name...

I find it extremely tacky and even offensive that NPCs get named after real and living persons.
As my real-world name is Robert; I hereby declare my disgust at every 'Bob the fighter' who has ever been rolled up by any player too lazy to think up a sufficiently 'fantasy' name.
See also:
'Bob the Builder' (BBC) - I'd like to fix him!
'Bobinogs' (BBC) - I am Ogi and I'm the drummeeeeeerrr!!!!!!!!
'Bob' the female 'pageboy' from 'Blackadder' series 2 (also BBC).
My God, it's a conspiracy!!!
Give me back my licence fee!!!!

Hyper sensitice, us?
Hah!
If anything banned from discussion boards on the repeated basis of general insensitivity :D ..esp regarding certain 60yr old issues..
But yeah, meepo would be awesome fun, this time having constructed a belt of gargantuan fighting.. (+250Hp, Bab+25, Fists 6D10 & AC+20, Str+40 & Con+20).. remember that gem from Demonwing? ;)

It seems that adventure 11 (Enemies of my Enemy) will be based on the PCs trying to get Orcus, Malcanthet, and other demon lords to ally with them on the strike against Demogorgon.
I'm just waiting for the good clerics and paladins to go ballistic and completely ruin this adventure.
Then again, Wolfgang Baur wrote it, which means it should be able to be pulled off.
EDIT: Ooh, and Iggwilv will be there, too!

From the DMG, 1st edition:
Example of Melee: Party A (player characters) is composed of Aggro the Axe, a 4th level fighter; Abner, a 5th level magic-user; Arkayn, a 4th level cleric; and Arlanni, a 2nd level thief. ... Suddenly they round a bend and confront party B, who are earnestly squabbling over some treasure. Party B is composed of Gutboy Barrelhouse, a 6th level dwarf fighter; Balto, a 1st level monk; Blastum, a 4th level magic-user; and Barjin, a 4th/5th level half-elf fighter/magic-user.

Allow me a short comment on names appearing in the Dungeon magazins.
As a hungarian group of players, we find it sometimes quite annoying to see hungarian names used for NPCs like Sandor, Milkos or Kalman.
The one i hate the most is Kossuth (god of fire) in the Forgotten Realms who is plain simply one of the largest national heros and polititians of our country. Not being supernationalist here, it is just annoying as I live on the corner of Kossuth square where our Pairlament is. Imagine how much time it took us to famlirialize with the name...

Not funny :)
Guys, please mix a few letters at least! :)
Thanks!

I want to see those 2 boneheads that freed Frazurbluu from castle greyhawk and got teleported as slaves to his abyssal layer and in the process lost 2 vorpal blades...
they are one in the same! :)

Cool celeb's every Savage Tide needs:
1)Rautheene
2)Phoebus
3)Lassiveran the Dark
4)Slippery Ketta (she swum away, I tells ya)
5)Valerius--HE should be on the rum bottle
6)Gormadoc--the quest for the elephant
7)Wolverine (just kidding--movie coming out and all)
I second the motion for Slippery Ketta! Glad to see I'm not the only one reminded of the Slave Lords adventures by this AP!

The tasloi (V17) are from "Dwellers in the Forbidden City," mentioned elsewhere in the message boards. Some of the stuff in K8 sure sounds familiar, but I'd need a lot of help to place it...

I've been enjoying the classic adventure references too, but a couple have eluded me and are driving me up the wall. Can anyone help with the half-cow-head in V2 or "L. of G." in V3?
Here's what I've got so far:
K8: Sea Ghost was in U1: The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh.
St. Asmod's Hope was the "alias" of the Rabid Dawn in Dungeon 111 ("Strike on the Rabid Dawn").
I'm guessing T...M...AUT is from "Tammeraut's Fate" in Dungeon 106 -- Greg Vaughan got a reference to one of his adventures and still sent assassains! -- but I don't have the issue in front of me.
V2: The Earth Dragon was from A1-4 (the slavers series).
I'm stumped on the cow head.
V3: The card is from S3: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks -- I think it was even the commander's card.
L. of G. has me beat.
V6: Is the badger-like creature an aurumvorax (sp?), also from S3?
V17: The tasloi is from I1: Dwellers of the Forbidden City.
The worm must be a worm of Kyuss from the AoWAP.
I'm stumped on the one-eyed bat.
The Carcerian Sign was from the SCAP.
V26: The signet pins are house insignia from D3: The Vault
of the Drow.
"Grog's" tankard is from Dungeon 4's "Trouble at Grog's", though if you're going to go to the trouble to reference Dungeon 4, why not use "Fluffy Goes to Heck"?
Anyway, the ones I'm missing are bugging me, so any help would be appreciated.

It most certainly is!
"Grog's" tankard is from Dungeon 4's "Trouble at Grog's", though if you're going to go to the trouble to reference Dungeon 4, why not use "Fluffy Goes to Heck"?
Probably because "Grog's" is a well-loved and oft-remembered adventure, whereas "Fluffy" was a farce and a satire that I don't consider part of any canon but itself.

Touche.
(another attempt at humor)
"Any canon but itself" -- does that mean we should expect an April 1 press release touting the Fluffy Goes to Heck Adventure Path(TM) hardcover?

Sorry to rez a dead topic, but there was one celebrity that I felt needed to be mentioned for Savage Tide: Saemon Havarian from Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. Havarian is the perfect cad for Savage Tide and I think he'd make an excellent addition.
~ Bryon ~
Ooh, that is a good call. He was an excellent character - not actually a villain, but utterly self-serving, and charming enough to nearly get away with it. Maybe bring him in as an extra potential crewman for the Sea Wyvern, with his own agenda for the voyage.

So no one knows the "L. of G." reference? It's bugging me.
At least one person must know: either Nic, or James if the reference was snuck in during editing. Come on, speak up!
