Just passed the first half of my A+ certification today (Hardware portion, for those that are curious).
Yay me.
(Mind you, this was after the fact of getting called to work when I requested the morning off to restart a web server and diagnose what was wrong with our phone systems...oy vey.)

First off, congrats! I assume that would lead to a job promotion, which is always good.
I also noticed in an earlier post you mentioned art commisions; I then take it you produce artwork. Just wondering: exactly how you managed to get started with that. I have a bachelor's degree in illustration myself, but I was never a salesman so I couldn't/didn't know how to promote myself and am always curious how others have done. I realize this is really off topic for a D&D forum but I figured I could at least try to ask.

Unfortunately, no, as much as I would like it to be. :( My direct supervisor is aware that I can argue for more pay, but the Overboss (see the rant thread) is unlikely to recognize any certifications that I may earn as a bargaining crowbar. However, my direct supervisor is on my side and will likely bring it up at some point to the mysterious, not-often-seen Overboss. (I hope.)

I do art commissions, but I will be the first to admit it's not my full-time job and I certainly haven't done any professional-level work (though I would like to). As far as getting started, I would hunker down and figure out what aspect of illustration that you want to get involved with and start sending out portfolios to potential clients. If you spend a lot of time on forums, a lot of them give you post signatures - make sure you advertise there. Try to get yourself into some of the bigger art sites, like DeviantArt and Epilogue. I know dA, in particular, has a "job seekers" section where you can get a few commissions here and there. Send some of your stuff to the Art Director (Sean Glenn, I believe is his name) here at Paizo.
You got to work it! *snap snap*
My two pieces of advice: Don't Give up and Don't Stop Drawing!
Oh, and for me, art isn't off-topic for D&D - after all, many an adventure has inspired me to draw.

MacGilith, I completely agree with Cosmo. At worst case scenario, get your MCSE and tell them to kiss your... Well, you get the point. However, you are an honorable person, so you would do the right thing. Just do not neglect yourself. Because in the long run, that is all that matters.
Question... What is your next move? As someone from the computer world, my sugesstion is to get your MCSE and then head for the Cisco certification. Oracle is also a good road to travel, from what I have heard. Pick up whatever training they will let you get. The more certified you are, the better your chances of getting a MUCH better paying job. You deserve it! Keep up the good work!
Microsoft certs... *shudders* I'll leave those for my other half. Me, I like databases and web work stuff. :D
My next goal is Linux+, after that probably Network+. If I can find similar certifications for MySQL, I'll do that (which apparently they do have certifications for MySQL - yay!). CompTIA's Server+ and e-Biz+ catch my attention as well.
Lilith, if you can do those others, then I see no real reason why you can't do the MCSE. ~Wicked grin~ Yes, it is very hard, but even now, the base salary is very nice. Hey, you ***ARE*** the IT department over there. If you do head for the MCSE, then remember that there are three things to learn...
1. The Right Way.
2. The Wrong Way
3. The MicroSquash Way!!!

As for the MCSE, I agree. However, think of it as a College Degree. Almost none of that has any use in real life, but it helps you get a job, more money, ect. I do understand that you just do not want to deal with the hassel of the tests. Whatever you do, good luck with it!
