Dio fans might want to check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43TlKfLdNRo
I prefer classical and metal music with my D&D, especially power metal bands like Dragonforce and Symphony X.
But right now, I'm listening to a psychedelic mix I burned for my friend:
The Doors -- "Tell All the People"
The Apples in Stereo -- "Tidal Wave"
The Make-Up -- "Call Me Mommy"
Os Mutantes -- "Quem Tem Medo de Brincar"
Oysterhead -- "Oz Is Ever Floating"
Fenwyck -- "Mindrocker"
The Human Expression -- "Optical Sound"
Bruno Leys -- "Dans la galaxie"
Brigitte Bardot -- "Contact"
The Beta Band -- "Inner Meet Me"
Özdemir Erdogan Ve Orkestrasi -- "Uzun Ince Bir Yoldayim"
(Cambodian Rocks) Various Artists -- Untitled
Kaleidoscope -- "A Dream for Julie"
Mogol -- "Sunset in Golden Horn"
Apaslar -- "Gilgamis"
Toncho Pilatos -- "Tommy Lyz"
Blur -- "Advert"
Midnight Movies -- "Mirage"
Third Rail -- "Run, Run, Run"
Of Montreal -- "Lysergic Bliss"
The Warlocks -- "Moving & Shaking"
Shocking Blue -- "Send Me a Postcard"
Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E. -- "The 'India' Crowd"
Max Frost & The Troopers -- "Shape of Things to Come"

I listen to whatever my iPod is delivering to my system at the moment. Ahh, sweet, sweet iPod, oh how I worship thee...
However, for daily listening here at the palatial Paizo estates, I dial up www.woxy.com, a radio station I used to work for and my personal favorite for over 20 years. The terrestrial station went off the air in May 2004, but the same jocks and music live on thanks to the interweb. Go, sign up, listen, join, love! Trust me, you'll love it!

Oh little piece of easily scratchable plastic, let me count the ways in which I love the bass and the treble which you output. Your many accessories, though overpriced, fill me with a joy only compared by a 13-year old who likes Pokemon, and desires to have them all.
*loves her iPod*

80's flashback complete!FH
I have 80's flashbacks all the time. I wish I could go back.......heck, I listened to Jan Hammer the other day, even though I no longer enjoy Miami Vice (it was a phase, then I bought some socks...)
Best 80's flashback album for me-- Aldo Nova
Have youse guys seen that there is a Miami Vice movie coming out at the end of July? Do you think they will try to bring back the bad fashions?

YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!
Finished grading! School's OUT!! ... for ten days, until summer school begins...
Still, it is time to crack open a few cold ones and put some party music in the player. I'm thinking anything by AC/DC (but probably "Highway to hell") and Dandy Warhols' "Thirteen tales from urban bohemia" - they'll fit in nicely next to Morbid Angel's "Domination", Alice in Chains' "Dirt" and Strapping Young Lad's "Alien". Celebration time!!

Couldn't figure out how to quote someone, but I'll make a few general replies nevertheless.
Ronnie James Dio. Wow. Hadn't heard that name in ages; now as of late, he's popping up everywhere. I just picked up the latest Queensryche, the sequel to Operation: Mindcrime, and he does a duet with Geoff Tate, playing (singing) the part of Dr. X. How cool is that?! He still has the pipes, though he is sounding tired and wobbly.
Music whilst gaming. One of my favorite flavor CDs to play during sessions is the soundtrack from the movie Master and Commander. We have a bard in the group, and this CD features some of his best Drunken Morkoth favorites. I also dig the occasional Symphony X.
In my car at present:
Tool, 10,000 Days
King's X, Ogre Tracks
Pearl Jam, s/t
Dave Matthews, Before These Crowded Streets, Live at Folsom Field
The Mars Volta, Francis the Mute
Linkin Park, Hybrid Theory
Rascal Flatts, Me and My Gang
Life of Pi, Audiobook
Audioslave, Out of Exile
And several .mp3 mix CDs including tunes by R.E.M., Coldplay, Papa Roach, Cake, et al.
Cool thread. It's made for some good Saturday-morning reading.
Peace! Or, whatever . . .

Pat Metheny
Doanld Fagen
Steely Dan
Bill Evans (the pianist, not the sax player)
Herbie Hancock
Billy Joel
John Scofield
Sir Elton
and.....
Barry Manilow (though that's just to keep the other half happy)
Sorry, rock'n'roll subversive I ain't.
EDIT: the naughty word monitor thinks that Donald F@gen's name is a homophobic slur!

Oh yeah, Forgot one of my favorites..
All music by DIO. Holy Diver baby!
Just saw a baby vest with art from that album, but with the dogface thing waving a nappy bag...
UNHOLY DIAPER!
Maybe you have to be a parent to appreciate the humour.
They go through a phase where the contents resemble the output from my avatar's nose...

I haven't thought about Jello Biafra in years. Now if I could only find my old CDs...
Check out "Prairie Home Invasion", with Mojo Nixon & the Toadliquors. First track, "Buy my Snake Oil", sums up my feelings for the likes of Kurt Cobain very nicely.
(from memory, since I don't have it in front of me)
Boo Hoo Hoo, poor little old me
Born white in the world's richest country
I can't have my way, life is so depressing
Nothing's as important as ME!, and my giiiirl....
No doubt I'll be flamed by the Kult of Kurt, but what do I care? They haven't the energy to actually DO anything, right...?
(Hey..like..man.. don't dis Kurt..like...cos he's...umm...man...he's like an...umm..an angel, like floated down from heaven....starchild...too beautiful for this ugly world....like...poet..so wise, man....cont page 94)

I tend to use alot of Dio's lyrics as the verbal components for spells.
Dio rocks!! (hold lighter up in the air)
Don't forget Stargazer (Rainbow Rising); half a side of vinyl about slaves being dragged to Egypt, to build a tower for an alien to ascend to the stars, only to fall to the dirt and crack his head open.
It just gets madder and madder and madder as it goes along. You can't believe such a mighty noise can come out of one person, whatever size they are.
And as for his D&D credentials, didn't he star in "Willow"? :-P

I've got my iTunes on shuffle, but here's a small sample:
Depeche Mode- it's no good
Marilyn Manson- the beautiful people
H.I.M- wicked game (cover of Chris Issak)
Sarah McLachlan- gloomy sunday
KMFDM- light (cellulite radio dub)
Sister Sledge- we are family
(I know, it's so out of place ...but I've got a tiny bit of the "fever")
The Crystal Method- now is the time (olympia mix)
Deftones- Moana
The Church- the disillusionist (it's old, but I love it)

Dang I gotta get an ipod
My stuff's been in storage for about 2 years, the tape deck in my mini-van has a badly warped Basehead tape stuck in it (not that it really sounds too much different that way).
I have a bunch of computers at school, but those play whatever the
kids put in them. Which basically means I get to hear a lot of rap, reggaeton, and nu-metal (you gotta love brooklyn!).
The other day, they caught me listening to Monster Magnet's second album (Spine of God). It was tough as I had to pretend the lyric "I think I wet my pants doing whippets" didn't happen.

Who told you what "umlaute" are ?
Ach du lieber! Ich kann ein bischen Deutch erinerrn.
I hope I got that right. I lived in Germany as a kid, studied the language in school, and was stationed there when I was in the Army the first time.
Thanks for responding
Now on CD player: The Cruxshadows 'Ethernaut'

Ach du lieber! Ich kann ein bischen Deutch erinerrn.I hope I got that right.
Not bad at all ! Some minor errors, but every german would understand you.

You´re welcome.
Studying german is not that easy, I´ve heard. The umlaute and the grammar give trouble to foreigners, not to mention pronounciation... Try to say "Brötchen" and despair :-))

I found it easy, but then, I grew up speaking German as well as English.
Most GIs are thrilled to learn that beer, in German, is still pronounced 'Beer'.
"You mean I don't have to learn a new word to get drunk?"

LOL ! By the way (continuing threadjacking), is it true that german beer is stronger than american beer ? I never tried american beer.
Stefan
German beer is SO much stronger than American beer. About 2-3 times the alcohol content, I think.
Guess we should return the thread to what's in our CD players, huh?
Okay, I'm listening to Corvus Corax (Best of...) again. Proclaimed the official musicians of the Kaltenberg Medival Festival by the Prince of Bavaria!

M. Balmer |

I have a fond dream of attending Oktoberfest in Germany...I've been told I'd make a great beer wench.
On my iPod right now is Lacuna Coil, a group that I found while browsing at the local music store. I listened to some of their clips and was like "Wow, this is neat shtuff!"
Are you listening to Karmacode or Comalies?
If you like Lacuna Coil, might I suggest you try listening to The Dreamside?

Been listening to Arch Enemy's Doomsday Machine for a few days now. Pretty awesome stuff.
That is indeed an excellent album. Not as good as "Wages of sin", though. But not much is.
In the player right now:
Testament: Demonic
Motorhead: Inferno (Where are my umlauts when I need 'em?)
Cryptopsy: None so live (Mood music... Good album, though)
And, Stefan - American beer is just awful. Just say no!

Thanks to the suggestions of a few people on this thread, my iPod is burgeoning with new tracks. :D (Corvus Corax, more Lacuna Coil, The Dreamside...)
On rotation:
Astral Projection - Dreaming Galaxy
INXS - Pretty Vegas
Jem - 24
Rinocerose - Cubicle
LCD Soundsystem - Daft Punk is Playing At My House
Lacuna Coil - Our Truth
Corvus Corax - Skudrinka
My latest favorite that I keep hitting the back button on is:
Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down
Edit: Forgot to add, I listened to the Diablo II soundtrack while reading the Fiendish Codex I the other day. >:D

It's funny, I always thought I would mellow out as I grew older, but quite the opposite has happened... I'm listening to heavier and heavier stuff, especially Scandiavian symphonic metal (even got to see Therion here in Calgary last year!), and what I think of as "world metal"... That having been said, I listen to alot of different genres, from folk to classical to Celtic to metal.
Recent purchases:
- Sepultura: "Roots", and "Nation"
- Vast: "Turquoise and Crimson"
- Apocalyptica (their new compilation, I forgot what it's called).
Stuff that has been in my CD player during the past 2 weeks:
- Tristania: "Ashes" and "World of Glass"
- Nevermore: "Dead Heart in a Dead World" and "This Godless Endeavour"
- Dougie MacLean: "Indigenous"
- soundtrack to "The Last of the Mohicans"
- Figgy Duff: "Weather out the Storm"
- Connie Dover: "Somebody"
- some Celtic music compilation (forgot what it's called)
- Sepultura: "Chaos A.D." and "Arise" (as well as the afore mentioned recent purchases)
- Opeth: "Damnation"
- Tool: "10,000 Days"
- Jeff Martin: "Exile and the Kingdom"
- Pearl Jam: "Pearl Jam"
- Queensryche: "Operation Mindcrime II"
- Apocalyptica: "Reflections"
- Bruce Dickinson: "Tattooed Millionaire"
- Danzig: "IV"
I'm also a big fan of Tori Amos, Loreena McKennitt, the Tea Party, U2, Leonard Cohen, Ozzy, Sirenia, Leaves Eyes, The Church, Orphaned Land (Israeli metal -- very interesting!), and The Crest (among many others), though none have made it into the stereo lately.
I'm surprised by how popular Dio is on these boards. I had all his cassettes when I was in high school, but I don't think his music has aged so well (mid-80s Iron Maiden has aged somewhat better, IMO). I did like his performance on Black Sabbath's "Dehumanizer," though. But to each their own...
