Fiendish Codex

I just stumbled upon a product entry for Fiendish Codex, a WotC book written by Eric Mona & James Jacobs and sheduled for a summer 2006 release, on Amazon.com
Here's the link:
FiendishCodex
I was really exited and surprised to see this and I'd like to ask if it would be possible to have some information on the book.
WotC couldn't pick better authors for a book with this theme.
Will this book be part of the creature-series (Draconomicon, Libris Mortis etc.)?
Also, its labeled as Vol. 1 so we can expect to see at least a second volume. Will this be written by the same authors?
And is it possible that there'll be stuff from the Demonomicon-series included?

This is very cool.

Honestly, this is the first absolutely-must-have book I have seen since "Lords of Madness" came out. I think we were all waiting for this, and we didn't even know it!

This early in the book's production, neither Erik or I have much to say about what it entails. Once it gets closer to the book's release, of course, we'll be around to answer questions. For now though, it's the waiting game.

I CAN say this though: it's something that both Erik and I have wanted to be a part of for a long, long time.

I think it's oddly interesting that every listing I've seen so far has JJ's name spelled wrong. ;)

Fantastic! Explains the Demonomicon articles. The first volume is for the demons, so the second is for devils? and the third is for daemons? So this time next year we can expect the Devilomicon articles in Dragon? :)

Can't wait.

Thank the Gods that they had the sense not to call it 'The Demonomicon', D&D bashing Christians would have had a field day with that.

That hasn't been a problem yet. And if it is, I know where those people work.

*bounces up and down*
This is going to be goooood.

Ooh! If you click on "Jacob, James" on the Amazon listing... well, who knew that you were moonlighting in the 80s for Christian Books Unlimited? Fascinating!

Heh! ;-D

That's OK, James. We know it's you, at least. :)

On the topic of misspelled names, people can almost never get mine right. I don't mind because I've gotten so used to it, but it can get tedious. My name is Isaiah and people keep coming up with new ways to spell it. From Isaih to the strangest, Izaha, or something like that.

As for the book, sounds pretty cool. I want to know more now. :)

Bear in mind that the name is likely to change. Lords of Madness was originally slated to be called Codex Anathema or something of the sort. It could be called "Words printed on paper about monsters" by the time it comes out :P

Looking forward to this one myself...

Codex Diabolis for the devil book?

Oooohhh... this is gonna be good... *drools*

I do get to wondering.

Fiendish Codex I: Demons
Fiendish Codex II: Devils

Of course, those are the two most popular fiends, and the others that have been made have never recieved the hype of these two. So, I wonder. Will the Yugoloths have get a book? Will the Demodand finally get their due? Will some mysterious race of fiends native to Gehenna before the migration of the Yugoloths strangely emerge?

Also, if this is the beginning to an Outsider section of the creature series, how will they cover the Inevitables and the Slaadi if they cover the lower planes and upper planes. Will they get their own books? Who knows? Only time will tell.

those are some good questions. as for the Fiend Codexes, 1. Demon 2. Devil 3. Yugoloth 4. Demodand sounds like the most logical progression. :) #4 might be a bit of a stretch though, as the other three types have have a lot more room to work with.

Fiendish Codex...nice...

Heh, heh...I've got 'wood'.

Speaking of demons and devils... what are the official rules for killing them on the Material Plane? I get the impression that in older editions, this merely banished them for a century, but there's nothing of that sort supported in 3.Xe that I know of. I assumed it to have lapsed out of use, but then came "Unfamiliar Ground" in issue 119, with Hezzrack the crazed imp. It once again mentioned banishment for a century due to death. So, what's the official stance on all of this, if anyone knows?

I suggest the "official line" on outsiders being banished will make its appearance in the very book James and Erik are co-writing. I think its been made clear in the Demonomicon articles that the 100 years of imprisonment for being killed rule is well in effect.

James and I are huge fans of the classic material. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the hundred-year banishment appear in the book.

--Erik

woohoo! :) yeah, always go with the classics, but never forsake newer material when it adds to (rather than detracts from) the original feel and purpose.

Well, in the recent Igwilvv article she killed Graz'zt and he was banished back to his home plane for 100 years, so you have already set a precedent for this in your own magazine.

By the way, does that mean you'll be including demon amulets in the Fiendish Codex?

I hope there's more info on the demon lords and dukes of hell. BoVD did a great job, but they mentioned a lot of beings that got n attention in the book, which I'd love to see expanded upon.

i second the motion on demon amulets!

oh, and since the thread is appropriate, posing this link one last time: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=152741

This is gonna' be good...
:)

Sounds Cool. Has anyone heard if the release date is firm on this one? (Not to offend oh great sayeed) I could plan on staving off any major demon encounters in my current campaign until I get my hands on it.
