What do you think of Heroscape and / or Deulmasters ?

I'd like to know what do you think of Heroscape and/or Deulmasters?

HeroScape brings the magic of HeroClix, Mage Knight, and D&D Miniatures to the mass market.

Duel Masters is like Magic 2.0--all of the knowledge of what makes Magic challenging went into making Duel Masters less so. It's both a great game and a primer for Magic.

Just like I discovered D&D as a kid in the toy story and followed up with it as a teenager in the bookstore, today's kids will have that opportunity with games like Duel Masters and HeroScape.

HeroScape is probably the best introductory wargame I've seen for kids. The eleven year-olds at the game club play every Friday. It has a good goofy factor with the mix of WW2 paratroops, romans, vikings, Men in Black, and space aliens. Oh, and the dragon.

The rules are very simple and very clear. They've had a FAQ, but I think only two of the questions are really undetermined by the published rules.

I don't think I'd play it every week for six months, but it's a great introduction.

Is duelmasters a yu-gi-o remake?

Far from it. It's actually the Magic game design cleverly dressed up to appear similar to Yu-Gi-Oh! on the surface.

The biggest difference between Magic and Duel Masters is mana--in Duel Master's mana is a value of every card. So far, I've only seen 1-mana, single-color cards. Another big change is that Duel Masters uses shield cards instead of life points. When all your shields are gone, one more attack finishes you off.

Visually and story-wise, Duel Masters is very much like Yu-Gi-Oh! The art is big and very fantasy-oriented, the power values are typically 4-digit numbers, and the storyline involves monsters on the cards coming to life.

I'm no expert on Duel Masters, but you could debate endlessly about the similarities and differences between it and other games.

I LIKE HeroScape, I think it's a very nifty game.

The only issues I have are board assembly (I feel ready for a break after putting it together), and getting the thing back in the box afterward.

But the drafting, tactics, and general feel of it are all good, and it's the kinda thing I recommend to kids for under the ol' Xmas tree.

Take care,

Rick

All I can say about HeroScape is that it is a fun game. I played it for the first time on Saturday at a friend's house and I got my butt handed to me. If that sniper had not taken out my Deathwalker 9000, I think I could have won the 2nd game. Oh well.

Woa! I think I resurected this thread. ~grins~

I got into Heroscape last year and I really like it. I think it's better that the DND miniatures because it's less complicated. The board assembly is really the hang-up for me.

One of my friends called it the poor man's Warhammer.

The main issue I have with heroscape is that my kids leave all the little board pieces all over the house.

I'm a big fan of the Heroscape...if only I could find someone to play it with more often. My wife is actually quite good at it. :)

I love Heroscape. The board set up is a pain, but you can get a 1.5" hex battle map and some markers for quick games. The boards look really cool when they are all set up.

The castle set is a great add-on.

I also really love the fact that you can see whats in the box before you buy it.

I'll add to the pro Heroscape voices - it's a really fun game!

I play with my 13 year old son and we have a blast. Setting up the combat field can be time consuming, but it can also be a lot of fun. Plus, coming up with interesting new battle ground set ups ads to the uniqueness and longevity of the game, in my opinion.

Worth a look to be sure!
