I hope it does well for those that like it, but this is a hard pass for me.
I guess it's time to break out the MIU and rejoin the Collegia Titanica again ;)
I should point out that the rest of the stuff here is solid gold. Loving that cyberpunk skyline and vibe from Vercies!
Bionic Knees System All legs
PRICE 2,750 LEVEL 5
Complex actuators and servos are installed in your knees, giving you the power to make impressive leaps. You always count as having a running start when attempting Athletics checks to jump. In addition, you don't fall prone if you fail an Athletics check to jump by 5 or more. Finally, the damage you take from the first 10 feet of a fall is converted into nonlethal damage, even if you aren't falling onto a yielding surface.
I'm not sure the bolded text of this upgrade actually does anything in SF. To my understanding an attack/damage is either nonleathal or not (depending on if it has the nonlethal tag), this might need a re-word to bring it in line with how damage types work in SF.

And yes, +1/lv to everything is no panacea. But I'll take it over PF1's forced incompetence hands down, warts and all.
Now if only we could make more out of those proficiency levels...
FWIW, I agree also.
My reason for starting this thread is that I have a vague glimmer of why the designers went down this road. Although it's not my preferred solution, I can live with it as a solution to these kinds of problems.
However (in my opinion), the price of now being unable to remain totally incompetent is too high. I'd like them to solve the problem of auto-fail vs auto-succeed situations which cropped up in PF1 without making everyone able to do everything.
I'm hoping they'll be able to tweak the system and find a way to let me do that, whilst still solving the problems they're trying to solve. FWIW I'm no fan of the +1/level to everything. It's been said before, but for myself when you're adding the same scaling number to everything, you may as not be adding anything and just going off Stat and Prof level. Unfortunatley doing this with skills (where my biggest problem lies) would also lead us back to the PF1 forced incompetance again.
Perhaps if skill proficiency levels were more available/granted a higher scaling bonus something could be done there?

Roll damage only once. The weapon hits all targets with an AC equal to or lower than the attack roll." ....if so, then neither cover or concealment are meant to apply (never says anything about miss chances from cover or concealment).....remember this is some weird quasi-aoe attack we are talking about ...the only people that really know on this one are the designers
........and regardless still don't think cover can't apply because in the case of a wall that would be total cover and we know things beyond the wall can be struck if the line weapon exceeds its hardness ...total cover would make that impossible ......and how can it provide you cover if the round goes right threw ...false hope bonus? ....maybe if you reduce it all to soft cover(but even that represents a shot getting stopped/deflected by a creature in your path..you can't do that to a line weapon if it beats your dr) .... the description doesn't mention anything about targets\obstacles creating cover for the next target in the path ...the cover in this case either stops it with Hardness(negating the attack entirely), or it doesn't and isn't cover
In this case, I'd roll to attack, and damage once as instructed. If the target has cover roll the miss chance as well.

Cheers, for this. Now time to take a look over my character and work out what I fancy doing.
Any other Pathfinder Savants kicking around?
I'd have assumed that a black blade's purpose in PFS would just be "explore, report, co-operate" much as the ronin is for samurai.
Ah this encounter!
Are you dead-set on running this as a combat encounter? The cleric has info on the party and knows what they are capable of, she is presumably aware that her odds aren't good. I'd be tempted to let her bargain with them as a first resort. She also has info on their main target and the layout of where they are.
Given the nature of this particular pre-written piece the PCs are likely to have dodgier allies than her to begin with so why not a few more? Well the group I ran for did anyway.
Wow, these are excellent, many thanks. It'll be a nice extra for my players!

To Judge a Soul part 1 is good for this.
Oh, sudden thought, in the suggestions section does it suggest taking the Dodge feat? If so that might explain the rogue (if you'll forgive the pun) +1. Dodge basically gives you an extra +1 DEX to armour (that's not quite true, but you know for simplicity of explanation and all that).

I just recently bought the Pathfinder Beginner Box from a local store.
I have never, ever played any ttrpg before and I bought it to play with some people who also have zero experience.
I'm trying to build some characters to get a hang of the process, now I've come to building a rouge, and I think I've got most of the basics.
One thing that bothers me though, is that on page 33 in the Hero's handbook, in the equipment box in "Rouge suggestions" it says the following:
"In section H, write +3 in the Armor box. Add +1 to the Dex box."
So, the +3 is quite obvious, the studded leather armor give +3 protection.
But the +1 DEX? I have looked through the armor section and the rouge section and I don't seem to find where the +1 is coming from.
Can someone help me out?
And it would be nice not to just get the answer, but also if I could get a clue for where in the book this information can be found.
Or at least how I calculate it.
For now I just ignored the +1 DEX and just put my ordinary DEX in there.
Hi, and welcome!
While I don't have the book to look at it sounds like you're doing it right by using your own DEX modifier instead of the +1 that is suggested.
Armour Class is calculated by adding the bonus from your armour and the bonus (or penalty) from your DEX to 10. So with studded leather amour and a DEX of 16 (for example) your AC would be the following 10+3(studded leather)+3(DEX modifier)=16
Hope that this helps!

That's an excellent example of SORT of the tack we're taking. If you go with the amnesia route, you WILL be handing over some of your character's background and history to the adventure and to your GM, and how you handle what those revelations are when they happen is intended to be part of the unsettling nature of the campaign. Well I'm sold on that as a start, and yes I'm looking forward to some deadly serious Lovecraftian action. oh and creeping horror, lets not forget that too.
edit.
I've just read the book titles. Well then, those are rather nice aren't they.
Ghost-Rider cavalier, enough said ;) Oh and yes I'm liking pretty much the whole book, this was clearly a labor of love for the authors, and it shows.

But a group and place like ours has it's own charm.

I was just wondering what the range of Spell Disruption was? It is melee for unwilling targets, but how about willing? I assume it is probably meant to be adjacent targets only but it doesn't actually state this at the moment.
Congratulations Dave! Very well deserved :D
Just a quick question about spell prep for the Arcanist. Wizards can prep low level spells in higher level slots and Sorcerers can spend higher level slots to cast low level spells. Does the Arcanist have the option of either? Personally I'd be inclined to say yes as this brings it in line with how meta-magic works for them. Thoughts?

This spell does not prevent subsequent natural decay or spoilage. Unholy water and similar food and drink of significance is spoiled by purify food and drink, but the spell has no effect on creatures of any type nor upon magic potions. Water weighs about 8 pounds per gallon. One cubic foot of water contains roughly 8 gallons and weighs about 60 pounds. I'd be inclined to say it doesn't remove the salt, you just end up with really clean sea water, but I could see how it'd be argued the other way. What say you ladies and gentlemen of the boards?

GM Elton wrote: Whale_Cancer wrote: I've ran both an ancient Greece game (so, before your period) and a homebrew setting that was equivalent to the age you are suggesting.
I enjoyed both, and think it has a lot to offer for both hack and slash types as well as those interested in the unique politics, art, ethics, etc., of the era.
Personally, I think I prefer a setting inspired by the era rather than the era itself. You can handwave things that serve only to complicate things (like currency or the interaction between obviously existing gods and syncretism). You also avoid arguments about historical accuracy which can occur if you have players with an interest in the era.
Will you be putting out new crunch for such a setting? I would certainly be interested in that.
My current setting, Phoenicia: the City of Psionics; is based on the era and is currently in it's second game. I'm writing what I could for crunch on it and it's getting involved. :)
It's themes are:
1. It's Hellenistic. Reading about Alexander the Great is great fun, by the way. I can't wait to get my hands on Plutarch's account and Arrian's account. There's a third account that comes recommended. It's too bad that the original sources are lost. :( Researching the era has come up with the most interesting intrigues.
2. It's East meets West, or West meets East. One part of the city is staunchly Indian in flavor. Another part is Ancient Persian, and it even has the equivalent of a Chinatown. There is a spread of Hellenic language, culture, and art and the common language is Western. The city was divided by a ethno-racist ruler (i.e. a racist who is not only racist against elves, dwarves, halflings, and the like, but was also ethno-racist.) The city is also the Western hub of the Silk Route (it's further than Samarkand is in the Real World).
3. The third theme is about human potential and achieving human potential, so Psionics plays a big part.
4. There's a struggle between those that want self determination in... This sounds awesome, good luck running it! Sounds like you and your players will have a blast. Currently in a Second Crusades game using the PF rules and it's an awful lot of fun.
Lorian wrote: For that price they should be assembled, painted and have twice as many figures. ...at the very least.
To put them in perspective it works out at £8 per figure (for the 5 figure sets). It's just that you have to foot the price for all five at once. Their price is about the going rate for single, high-quality, fantasy/si-fi figures (which is not to say that they might be too expensive for some people's taste).
Actually I tell a lie I think BF/GF9 will have a limited number to sell themselves.
I have no idea if the rules are different in the US, but them is the breaks over here. ;-)
I was under the impression that only bricks and mortar shops could stock them (at least in the UK).
1. Have you considered the Naga Aspirant Druid from ARG? Like a regular druid only with a selection of wizard/cleric spells to pick from (can you say magic missile and shield of faith!), Also you get to wild shape into a naga.
2. I do have a powerful love for the sage sorcerer. Wizard would work just as well but depends on how much book-keeping you want to do.
3. Not seen that many derp-foxes around in actual play really but they do seem to be quite popular with people from what I've heard (I'd certainly play one given the chance). Some of their rogue talents do look like fun!
Seems OK if you are using a musket.

I think it's safest to assume that if no extra prof. is mentioned then the PrC doesn't grant any.
