I want to remember that the store opened by 9am Friday last year. I know I had no game booked for the first session and did all my shopping, dumped it back in my hotel room and was at my first seminar at ten.

To show how different Paizocon is to other conventions around the world, I know of one person from Australia who bought his ticket and was travelling around the US with limited internet connectivity for a few weeks beforehand a few years ago. He did not even know that you had to sign up for particular slots/lottery etc. as a result he attended the convention and somehow managed to get into nothing. I was there and did not see him, if I had, I would gladly have given him a few of my slots, so it does happen.

So, just as I feared, my son and I, and a friend flying in to play with us, are all at different tiers for the special, and only one of us in the tier we had hoped to play. I know I can attempt to trade, and will try to do so, but I do wonder if Paizo can rearrange the table distribution given what the demand seems to be. It looks like there are empty seats at higher and lower tiers, that could be assigned to the more popular tiers - which definitely looks like 10-11. As I write this, there 42 empty seats at the 5-6 tier, and 47 at the 12+ tiers. I expect that a handful of those are being saved for walk-ins (which is a whole 'nother issue, and a separate thread), but that is still a lot of empty seats.

I still don't get why the lottery for the special was done by tier, and am pretty frustrated with the way it has played out.

Agreed - I'm glad I didn't try to coordinate a group like I did last year.

As for the reason, the main benefit I can think of for breaking out tiers before muster time would be to make it easier for GMs to prepare. Shifting the # of tables based on demand could have been done before lottery results were released, though, and still accomplished this goal.

I'm also trying to trade into the most popular tier. So I'll second your request to re-distribute the tables now, if possible!

From my experience over the last two years, mustering by tiers is a lot easier to do for both GM's and mustering volunteers than on the day as people walk in. It is still possible to coordinate. We have managed to get 3 tables from memory pre-organised for the top to tiers among people I know. Granted, we started organizing this months ago via Facebook chat as some of us are travelling transpacific, but I feel your pain.

Ok. So one primary level 16 and three level 16 aid characters for me then. Now to decide which one to actually play. Definitely going for Champion.

There is an Aussie bakery fairly nearby that I have yet to try if we want to bring in supplies. I almost bought some lamingtons last year to share at my precon table but wasn't quite organized enough.

I had no idea. Sounds like a definite win. We will be bringing vegemite and a few other choice things with us.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone, and a Thurs + Mon night game would be great!

DM Livgin, this is G from Australia. I might PM you as the time gets closer.

Another Aussie. Yay, that makes 6 of us before you count Syrinscape people.

Somehow I forgot to post here. The lone Aussie is not travelling alone this year. I am bringing friends(4) and vegemite.

PFS multitable special is normally Sunday night.

Had one at the table I ran last month. Player was happy with the result as character wanted to retire anyway. Now he just needs to get another character up to Seeker tiers for Gallowspire.

Part D is legal for play in exclusivity period. We ran it at Cancon last weekend.

I looked into this for Australians a few years ago and was told no. That was before the OPF though. Might have to look into it again when everything is finalised

Thanks for the video! Was very useful as a PaizoCon first timer! I'll be travelling over from New Zealand for it.

What's the food situation like there? Do people go to the hotel restaurant, or offsite? Do people eat at the organised play tables? Are there any rules about bringing your own food and drink in? Cheers! Look forward to meeting everyone there!

Hey Lazlo,

VC Canberra Australia here. There a bunch of us travelling over from AU if you want to join up with us let us know. Two of us have done the trip before and we have accommodation sorted and now our way around town.

Third year attendee here. First year I knew no one and had a blast. Last year was better. I allow ten days for the trip. Sightseeing takes a few and there are normally some precon games on during the day on Thursday.

Great news.

Personally, the final seeker content scenarios for June and July should have a cap of 16. A lot of people I know have characters at that tier who have the majority of interaction with Thurl, Hestram, Dreng, early Torch events, the Aspis and the Ten.

Huzzah, first in 10-11!

10-11 as well. I might get to play a game with the mighty TOZ

Used mine last year without a problem. As stated, wifi might be an issue. I stay at another hotel and am travelling from overseas so I just get a prepaid data sim to cover me for the trip.

It always takes me a few sessions to get the feel for a character, whether it’s brand new or a GM blob birthed at a higher level. Having this be a character’s first session? I don’t know. While I’m certainly not questioning the player’s ability to do so, I’d have the same reservations as Majuba.

True, but I have thirteenth level unchained rogue I could bring as well.

It could be better, I have a GM blob in tier if we want to discuss.

TOZ is possibly looking for a table of Unleashing the Untouchable on Monday evening if anyone else is interested

Two arriving Monday. One willing to gm unleashing the untouchable.

And now there are three of us coming!!!

Just trying to report a con from last weekend and Solstice Scar Part B is not reportable, even though I had permission from Tonya to schedule and run it. Any ideas on an ETA? I can always report the rest of it and come back to it when I know it is going to be reportable.

And now I have to go see this Amazon grocery store.

Where and what is this grocery store?

Museum of flight at Boeing field is about a half hour bus ride front the con. Highly recommend it. And Mueseum of Pop Culture has a rotating exhibit. Last year was the career of Jim Henson, this year, by the time Paizocon arrives, 80 years of Marvel comics. I have heard the Fremont Troll is cool and one day I will visit the AFK Tavern and walk by Paizo’s offices.

Depending on my chedule I may be posting to Facebook groups regarding seminars I end up attending as well. But know direction is definitely the best place to get your news if you cannot get there.

Good call. Flying into America via LA is vile. Last year I flew into Seattle which was one of the smoothest entries to the US I’ve ever had. Not an option from Australia, sadly.

True. I did SFO last year and man it was a breeze.

Consider our native airlines and everyone else (delta and a few others) thinks we want to pay more to travel via LAX, when United gets us via SFO at the cheaper price. United gets all my money for the trip.

Accomodation is not too bad. I stayed at the Days Inn across the street last year at a cheaper rate, but I was there for two and a half weeks sightseeing. This year I should be in for the con only and at the con hotel.

Same here, but my flights are starting to get expensive to the point where I might not be able to make it.

Yay. I found a flight package for about 1100 and return. Now I just need confirmation of dates to book it.

To use the local vernacular, you little beauty. Now I can hassle everyone locally.

Memorial Day Weekend is an incredibly safe bet. Games will run from Friday morning until midday Monday.

Incredibly safe bet it may be, but when I am looking at dropping $1500 dollars on flights I want to make 100% sure. I can book accomodation at a later date, it is the price increase on flights that gets painful and is getting me worried.

True. Just wanting to confirm weekend and which hotel from an official source before booking flights.

Back to the original topic. Is it possible to confirm dates and locations for those of us travelling from outside the US? The later we leave it, the more expensive the flights get.

4/5

See now you are just teasing. I can’t do that and Paizocon. Now I really have to think about my options and try to get a bunch of Aussie Seekers to make the trip. Not sure about that last bit being possible but I am going to try.

Wow, thanks for the incredible tales. If I can find a way to purchase you independant products in the future I certainly will.

Something on Saruman, please. Every fantasy game does Asia, Europe etc. never an Australia analogue

Hey all. I had some problems with my mobile internet today. It is all fixed now but as a stopgap measure I had to buy a T-Mobile prepaid sim so I could Skype call my family back in Australia. As a result I now have an excess iPad Pro sim for T-Mobile with probably about 6gb of data on it. If someone wants or needs it, let me know or it will just be thrown out when I leave the US.

Spare a moment of sympathy for those of us who live overseas. Open enrollment for me begins at 3 a.m. local time, so I can either stay up late or see what's left in the morning . . .

Kinda why I am hoping my 18 month old needs a cuddle and bottle about then.

Anyone else want to do All for Immortality?

Count me in as long as I can get to the VC dinner.

Sarvei taeno wrote:
im up for playing all for immortality. i have a couple characters i can bring

As am I. Have plenty of characters to bring. Will be in town from the Monday before if people are available early. I would be replaying it, but think it would be worth it if people do not mind. I can also run/replay academy of secrets for seeker characters.

Options.

Ralph, erutaki force kineticist with a penchant for sculpting ice and snow and drinking/sharing alcohol. Level 8.

Hessan, Mwangi fighter/living monolith. Think the character of the same name from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons.

I have a few other options depending on what party balance needs but these are my preferences at this point based on sign ups.

Tallow wrote:

Since I won't be GM'ing anything else all weekend, I'd be more than happy to be a GM for one of these pre-con games.

Perhaps a group wanting to run through the All for Immortality series? I've run it 3 times and should be able to get that going fairly well for the convention.

Now this I would be interested in. When do you get in?

I believe the VC dinner is Thursday night. First time for me too, but I have been told by another VC that it is then.
