For people who've never dealt with Paizo Customer Service before, I want to express that the current situation is not the norm. I have dealt with them many many times and it has *always* been a pleasant experience. As someone whose sole job is to get late product from a supplier pushed out the door so it can go into high level military jets, I can verify that situations like this happen ALL the time in my field. I have million dollar parts that are a half year past due and have several hour long daily calls on a *single* item. I deal with suppliers and late product every day and I can 100% say that dealing with Paizo CS is by *far* the best experience I've had. In my interactions, they gave my $100 orders much more attention and care than high level industrial companies selling me millions of dollars of product on a single order One thing to keep in mind is that the issue with the printer has multiple factors. * this isn't a delay to one customer, but to hundreds. So even if they ship Joe's order today, they might not get to Mike for a couple days. There are weeks of backup to get to. * it sounds like the printer has been giving a lack of or even misleading information. From what I gather, Paizo held shipments because they've been expecting these in the door any day now, and are just now realizing that this isn't happening. * Splitting the order means splitting the shipping without charging us the extra money. That means a possible HUGE loss to Paizo's income. And yet they have made that decision. Let that sink in. They are taking a profit loss to make up for someone else's screw up. I don't know about you, but if it was my company, I'd be pretty loathe to do that and only bite that bullet when it became obvious that the other options had gone from bad to horrible. * Having the product come later than promised when they've already started processing the order is a nightmare. And depending on the system they use could be virtually impossible to back up. One could argue that they shouldn't begin the process if they don't have the product, that doesn't always work when you are on strict timetable demands (such as preparing for GenCon). This is compounded when subscribers insist they get their product before everyone else, which pushes Paizo to get everything ready to ship ahead of time. * It's not as simple as just saying "ok, the product isn't here. Action!". They had to have meetings with the printer, meetings internally, build battle plans to resolve, and then work overtime to enact. A lot of people scrambling to fix a surprise problem is bound to cause human error issues that they then have to fix on top of the original issues. Procurement can be a nightmare of carefully constructed process that goes downhill fast in a nightmare of compound cluster-frak * following this up, fixing this issue is a *lot* of work. That means they have to choose between getting it resolved as quickly as possible and losing man hours sitting on the boards and fielding questions from hundreds of people. I for one would rather less response and more shipping. Is it frustrating? Absolutely. But from Vic's responses I have zero doubt in my mind that Paizo is doing everything they possibly can with the hand they were dealt (pun intended). Given their past performance, I would urge you all to please judge them on their history, and not this one unanticipated catastrophic incident.
In my younger days we would RP during combat. Over various editions of the game combat has become time intensive enough that we often just want to finish the combat and get back to the story. In general, we find descriptive text in combat is best kept for outliers. Crits, fumbles, death blows, hints at fast healing/regneration/DR, etc. Describing every little attack adds far too much time.
Forgive me if someone mentioned it already, but are there any plans to make it easier to spot if a product has been updated since the last time it was downloaded. I know buyers get an email, but sometimes things end up in a spam folder. Drivethrurpg has a nice method wherein if a product has been updated since it was last downloaded, it will turn red on your product archive. This would be an ideal solution for me, as it means whenever I'm looking at my downloads section, I could make a quick visual scan to see if I missed any updates. I know I can sort by date updated, but when you have a product list as long as I have, the idealness of the method weakens. You guys have several methods to help, so I'm not complaining in the slightest, so much as offering suggestions to help you help me. If it's an idea that's been brought up and dismissed, I'm not upset or anything, I just thought I'd ask.
Please rescind this request. To the mega-awesome person who left me a gift: I have seen generosity from this community before, but I've never actually felt moved to tears. I cannot describe how awesome you are and how happy it makes me to be a part of the Pathfinder Community... nay, it is too big, let us now call it the Pathfinder Movement. I thank you, and I will do my best to ensure that in the future this generosity is paid forward.
Aaaaaand boom goes the dynamite.... Mythic Adventures announced on Buhlman's facebook, playtest next month slightly ninja'd by TOZ, but this one's from the man hisself

you can patent a DNA structure that doesn't occur naturally in nature. Monstanto patents all of it's seeds. Percy Schmeiser was sued by Monsanto because seeds from a neighboring farm landed in his. The canadian Supreme Court ruled in favor of Monsanto. So yes, as far as the government is concerned you are a Pepper Felon.

I describe the american ending thusly: Imagine Star Wars, except that instead of getting in an X-Wing and spending ten minutes of screen time blowing up the death star, luke runs to his room and spends the whole fight (drawn out to a full 45 minutes of excruciating screen time) sitting in a chair sobbing like a child and waxing philosophical about how much the world sucks, occasionally falling to the floor and flopping around like he's been possessed, followed by uncontrollable shaking. Then the battle ends, and he goes out to get his medal.

I think one of my favorite hobbies is talking to Texans stuck up here in New England during a Nor'Easter. You find out which ones are religious real quick. They're the ones with their arms out waiting to ascend (because they think it's armageddon... get it?) The New Englander, on the other hand, might sip his coffee while slowing his car to a meager 55. Except for the New Yorker, who is behind him and honking his horn and screaming obscenities.... /tangent

I can handle adding basic stuff, and have put a few of my SGG PDF's in there, but for the most part I am resigned to having to skip over anything requiring any code writing Bingo. I'm getting better, but I'm still only mostly good for data entry. I can enter about 90% of a pdf. Ok, I won't derail this thread any more. But if you want to compare notes, you can find me on the Lone Wolf forums as poizen37 (an alias I also use here) and @Hyrum, I'll dig through and see if I have any SGG products I managed to 100% input. I don't think I'm qualified for guru level, but I'm certainly willing to do a fair share of heavy lifting.
Tolkien - I tried multiple times to read it growing up. I made it through the Hobbit (barely) and just couldn't handle the holy trilogy. In my twenties I got a hold of the audiobook and thought it was fantastic. The movies, which did away with all the exposition, brought that magic to me that I was always told about. I've since gone back and read them and enjoyed them immensely. So I can definitely see both sides on this one. Salvatore - I have to admit to growing up on his works and thinking they were the greatest things since sliced bread. The exposition read smoothly, and the fight scenes were phenomenal. As I grew older, the emo-ness of Drizzt began to wear on me, and I realized that the smooth writing and the fight scenes were hiding some glaring writing flaws. Then again, I have the same thoughts on Stephen King, who I simply cannot get through a single chapter. Smooth writing, draws in the reader, *terrible* mechanical writing skills. Anne Rice - Another writer I grew up on thinking was pure awesomesauce. Then I realized it was a world of vampires layered on top of a thinly veiled androgynous work of porn. Eventually the writing developed in such graphic sex that I just threw it down on the ground and never picked it back up again. It pretty much turned me off to anything vampire save Stoker himself.

Because when it comes to nerds and rulebooks, everyone's an amateur scientist. It is not the validity of the question that causes them to begin experimenting, merely that someone asked it in the first place. Otherwise, there would be no 500 page threads with titles like "Stat out Superman using Mouse Guard ruelz!!!" or "How many XP do I get for stealing Lilith's cookie recipe?"
[grognard] You're problem is your stat array! In my day, we didn't have this "point buy" nonsense! You rolled 3d6, in order. What you rolled is what you played with. If we rolled a 14, we were happy! Each class had a minumum ability score! If you rolled good enough to play a Paladin, we threw you a party! Good times... [/grognard]
