Ultimate Armies is still on my list, but I've been mostly focusing on either development on other people's books or completing stuff for Kickstarters that people have already paid for.

This year I got the second of the Unholy Trinity off my desk with the release at long last of Fort Scurvy, with Ultimate Armies the last one on my list. It's still there, and I've done some more small bits on it as I've been able to, but we've got Kickstarter stuff still stacked up that needs to get out the door first.

Ultimate Strongholds is still being worked on as well, but that one's not me; rather, Ben Walklate (who did the terrific Ultimate Factions, which is on sale for just $2 this week at the Legendary Games website!) is doing that one. I've just emailed him today to see how far along he is and how close we are to getting it up and out the door.

Here's to hoping that you finish the other stuff soon so that you can't get back to working on these two products, after all PF2 is coming down the road! You always do quality work, so I'm really looking forward to how Ultimate Armies and Ultimate Strongholds come out.

And FYI, I picked up Ultimate Factions earlier today when it was mentioned that Ben Walklate had finished it in the Strongholds thread, couldn't resist the $2 bargain for such a great product LOL.

I write this with some concern, since I was incredibly hyped to see both this and Ultimate Armies come out. However, after some energetic discussion about it being worked on, I have heard not a single peep about it in about a year. It was originally discussed nearly 3 years ago that it would be coming out, and yet nothing else has come about it. I've noticed that Legendary Games has been focusing more and more on putting out 5E versions of their products, so I wonder if that has been taking more of their time from doing Pathfinder products. Also, I haven't heard anything about Ultimate Armies since September. The real question is: have these products been greatly delayed, or have they been abandoned to work on other products instead?

I'm looking forward to those three in particular. I'm also hoping we finally get to see Ultimate Tournaments and Ultimate Armies, both of which I so badly want to read. Sorry, broken record, I know.

It may be sooner than you think... stay tuned.

I think patience is the watchword when it comes to Jason's own projects. I get the impression that he spends the vast majority of his time being Jason Nelson, Publisher of Legendary Games, and relatively little being Jason Nelson, Designer.

Picture it like Mark Seifter, who has his day job at Paizo, and does freelancing stuff on the side. LG is Jason's day job, and the books he writes himself are freelancing work that he just happens to be the publisher for, but it's still "on the side".

Unfortunately this means that there are some projects which have languished in design hell for a looooong time, and includes three that I'm looking forward to (Legendary Fighter, Royal Tournaments, Ultimate Armies). It's a pain from a consumer perspective (I want to be all "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"), but a man's gotta pay his bills, and I can't begrudge him that.

I've got to agree with that sentiment. I've been looking forward to Ultimate Armies for over a year now, and have seen its deadline been pushed back at least four times. But I'm patient, because in the end I know that it's going to be a great product when it's done and that Jason has a lot on his plate already. Because, to make a point, it's never so simple as going from point A to point B when making a product. Sometimes (most times) Jason is quite busy with what needs to be done, rather what he wants to do next. All I can do is be patient and congratulate him on a job well done when Ultimate Armies comes out............shortly before I get on him about creating Ultimate Strongholds. :P

LOL no pressure, Jason. Keep the great work coming!

Palpatine- Okay, so yeah, yadda yadda fascism, oppression, Palpatine was the hero! Fact: The Old Republic was a corrupt corporate oligarchy, run by fat cats and policed by celibate warrior priests who were too self involved to try and stop the obvious corruption rising all around them. According to the old canon, Jedi Knights used to actually rule over the Republic directly and things were a lot more peaceful, eventually they had to give up their rule and the whole thing devolved into frigging nightmarish insanity. Palpatine was able to take over the place because the whole Senate was overrun with cartoonish levels of corruption, which is why Palpatine DISSOLVED the Senate because who needs ugly, stupid monsters running the show when you can have ONE smart monster in charge of everything. And it worked, it was efficient, brutally so. But what about the slavery? Well, slavery was ALREADY semi-legal because criminal Hutt gangsters used the Slave trade to make money in total defiance of the morally upright Jedi knights. The Slave Trade, which existed anyway, was now regulated and orderly because Palpatine recognized that with so many cultures and so many vastly different kinds social structures, it would impractical to impose a single moral vision on the Galaxy, so instead he imposed a coldly efficient, brutal method of law and order. No more mincing samurai moaning about being good as the whole galaxy devolved into corruption and chaos, instead it was legalism and clearly defined order. Obey the law or get shot. That is cold, it's terrible, it's cruel, it's also efficient which is everything that the Old Republic wasn't and is kind of Palpatine's appeal. He's a ruler, not a philosopher. Is he a manipulative monster, sure. But he's also ruling over THOUSANDS of planets each with their own races, legal systems, and traditions. If the alternative is nothing but chaos, isn't efficiency kind of preferable? Wasn't the reason the Republic fell was because none of the Good Guys were smart
...

This pretty much sums it up.

Hello there!

Ultimate Armies, Royal Tournaments, and Fort Scurvy have all finally made their way to the top of my to-do pile. Of the three, Fort Scurvy has gotten the most attention thus far, including some new artwork and new stat blocks, but I'm swapping back and forth with that and UA as I nail down the troop template rules we're using there, since the revised Fort Scurvy will be making use of them. I got some work done on Royal Tournaments in October as well, so all three have been getting some attention, but I didn't have a big enough chunk done of any of the three to feel like I should make a big announcement about it.

I also got distracted with some suggestions people had made for a follow-up to Ultimate Rulership, focusing on either strongholds and castle building or on nobility and noble characters (or perhaps both), so there's been some idea-work there as well.

So, in a nutshell, work is in progress! I'll be taking a long plane trip this week, so I may be able to get a good bit done on the plane. At this point, I'm not sure which of the three will see completion first, but all three long-simmering products will get done if it kills me, hopefully by the end of the year!

*cough*I have no idea who would do this*coughcough*

............I may have some responsibility with that.

Glad to hear everything is still going on, I know you're all hard at work and are toiling on the Ultimate Strongholds book. If there's anything I can do for you, just ask and I'll be happy to see what I can manage. After all, I had thought of the name, so it's like we're partners now!...............Right? Right?..........awwwwwwwww.

Jason Nelson wrote:
What did you feel made that particular book so good?

On a number points I agree with Chemlak there Jason. But vagueness is no path to take here so let me crack open my copy and the Ultimate Campaign and compare.

1) First things first construction materials. Ignoring rarer materials like Mithral, with the stronghold builder's guidebook (SBG) I can make a Defensive Wall made out of Iron to protect the open parts of my theoretical dwarven mountain fortress. Ultimate Campaign (UC) gives no support for this. My defensive walls are wooden or at double cost stone. On top of that, SBG also covers wall augmentations very well with over two dozen options. UM we get a single option for a guard post to make it walkable, that's it. To continue with this line of thought, in SBG we also get rules and tables for a variety doors and windows.

2) Lets look at some rooms for a sec. UM I can get a book repository that gives a +3 to a single knowledge check, and that's it. I can buy some furnishings for it and make it look a little cooler but that money sink has no bonus to it. SBG I have a choice between three grades of libraries that come with varying book lot spaces, with a side bar on book lots and how to create scaling ones for better bonuses on specific or general topics. The higher the bonus, the more it costs and the more lots it takes up. Simple but effective, and a system I dearly wish you guys at Paizo would adopt. You have so many different setups when it comes to pricing your book collections that grant circumstance bonuses to knowledge skills. It honestly makes me wana rip my shirt off and go Tarzan in the trees outside. Which sucks, because in a fantasy game with Wizards, Sages, and more you'd think book collections would actually make good nonmagical player loot and great additions to player strongholds. Heck books come up so much in...

Ultimate Strongholds! BOOM! Name of the book solved. You can put me in the credits. Honestly, I think making a book like this would be a very worthwhile endeavour.

The demons could make the head into a Beheaded:

In brief, "A beheaded is a severed head or skull animated as a mindless undead sentinel that silently floats at eye level as it lies in wait for living prey or is sent out into the lands of the living to terrorize everyone it finds."

From Resurrection: You can resurrect someone killed by a death effect or someone who has been turned into an undead creature and then destroyed.

The players have the body (definitely a "small portion of the creature's body) so that should allow for the casting of Resurrection. However, since the head is now undead and hasn't been destroyed, I can easily see that being a reason the spell fails, thus engendering a quest.

According to the black-tabbed section of my spellbook, both possibilities might occur at once. It would be interesting having to fight something with your own face.

This actually happened in a friend's campaign, where they were battling the BBEG at the top of a tower. They were getting royal spanked and on the verge of a TPK. The humble monk, realizing that they wouldn't be able to defeat him, decides to grapple the BBEG, pin him, and then launches the both of them off the edge. The fall instantly killed both of them, but the monk sacrificed himself to ensure victory. Awesome.
