Guurzak wrote: This is where I'm stuck too. What is PF2's value proposition to players who might otherwise be playing PF1, or 5e, or 4e, or 13th Age, or Dungeon World, or Blades in the Dark, or Gloomhaven? What kind of player is PF2 looking to attract who is underserved by the current library of games? What will PF2 do better than any of the other options?
I've played a lot of different kinds of games with a lot of different kinds of gamers, and after reading the rulebook, I can't think of a single person I've played with who would say "yes, I'd rather play this than my current favorite game." If Paizo could state a specific design goal that we're trying to make a game that does X better than any other game does or that appeals specifically to Y kind of players, that would help greatly in the community's ability to provide feedback on reaching that goal.
Man this is my same feelings... I don´t understand how this will be beter than PF1... making changes just because you want to launch a new edition isn´t a good move.
You need to offer something new, evolved mechanics from previous edition (see how D%D1 changed to AD%D, then AD&D2E and so on, there were significant and atractive changes).
Runequest is another example on how to take the bullet; since 7th edition is about to come, we all still love the 2 edition of it, and it seems that 7th edition will take a lot of it.
World of darkness evolved too... more simple (ppl say that the last version of the game was like D&4thE too) and White Wolf take note on it.
So, moving to PF2 with this set of rules, is at least to me, going back to 2008 and jumping from 3.5 to 4thE entirely blindfolded

mmm im here by my own, excited as all of you on how the game i love will take changes, i love changes with purpose, and im not a d20 player only, i played CoC, WoD, Runequest, D&D, and some others.
The fact that launching a new edition is an important happening, a risky move (see what happened to WotC when they tried to steal from us with that awful 4thE), but also, i think you must offer something atractive, and decide for whom you are making this new edition.
There will be ppl loving it, entusiatical, esceptical, and haters... im still in a disapointed mood... trying to be optimistic and i want to offer my experience, but i think this will be a waste of time.
In the 5thE playtest (wich took 3+ years with fans to test) we all apport something, and you can see your opinions making it a better edition than it was intended.
But with pathfinder 2, it seems they already have done the edition, and want to line up the finishing details.
sorry if i look so underwhelming.

After reading the whole ruleset for the playtest, I get so disapointed.
Im not going to lie, there were some rules that I liked (equipment section only).
But as a responsible customer, one who take care of what i buy and such, why do i need to move to pf2 if the rules offers nothing new at all?
I mean, Racial Powers (now called Feats) were in D&D4thE. Class Powers (now called class feats) were in D&D4thE PHB.
Someone told me last night "the half elf and half orc are a feats only for humans"... yea, but that was also a rule from 4thE. You need to be a human, and take the "half vampire feat" to make your human a dhampir.
Skills: they overcomplicated the things you could do without feats in PF1, now you realy will need a feat to take a shower or so.
I think that paizo´s crew need to remember why we all moved to Pathfinder 1 back in 2008: because we all dislike D&D4thE.
Gladly this is the first step for what seems will be a loooong playtest (if they hear us all). So, with a lot of luck, we, the testers have a lot of work to do to make it the game we want/need/desrerve.
I will not test this round, tell me when round 2 is out because this one really sucks

I am esceptical with paladins, since I think Paladin should be an Archetype or even a Prestige Class at all for Clerics, Monks (also a Samurai for monks and fighters)and Fighters (wich would result in a better approach to the meanings of the entire concept of the class, not just being a hole to fill in a book with to hit prob and divine powers.
Doing that, you should fulfill some prerreqs and accept some rules before attempting to become a paladin (Being lawful, being good, being the representation of right and justice, and the enbodyment of their deities needs). And with this as an option, every deity could have their own paladin´s oaths, codes, flavor, and even aligtmens

ahhh alchemy :(
I wish paizo make it like in the witcher video game, with toxicity, so you could use a little ammount of alchemical items per level.
As a houseruler, i use Vitality (con score + fort base) and every potion has a toxicity equal spell level (even cure wounds potions). amd toxicity reduce your max vitality score.
So, once you get at half your vitality score, i apply the rules from pathfinder unchained wound treshold (p. 136).
I hope you read my comment and consider this at least as an optional rule.

well it was a great movie, a great storyline and I loved it.
Also, the galaxy is a vast space for a story to move around the same characters every new trilogy (please, let the skywalkers die)
I never liked star wars movies, I would prefer a saga regarding Revan and the Mandalorian Wars at the Old Republic.

Instead of bringing things from 3.5 I would love other things comming into game:
Instead of lots and lots of feats, perhaps a rank on a feat (I.E); Iron Will. you need to spend a skill rank on it at any level except the one you take that feat and progress in the nex feat of that chain.
EXAMPLE
_______
Improved Initiative
- Quick Draw (1 rank)
- Rapid Reload (1 rank)
- Fast Armor (1 rank)

ha! you dont need to convert them at all.
just drop like they are, with their ac, saves, attacks and everything. if you need something more dangerous, just add universal monster rules for advancing them ie if the creature is a magical beast then use a d10 per hd and such, i just watched one creature and was a wyvern so;
Wyvern is a dragon and universal dragon rule are like this:
Dragon
A dragon is a reptile-like creature, usually winged, with magical or unusual abilities.
A dragon has the following features.
d12 Hit Die.
Base attack bonus equal to total Hit Dice (fast progression).
Good Fortitude, Reflex, and Will Saves.
Skill points equal to 6 + Int modifier (minimum 1) per Hit Die. The following are class skills for dragons: Appraise, Bluff, Climb, Craft, Diplomacy, Fly, Heal, Intimidate, Knowledge (all), Linguistics, Perception, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Stealth, Survival, Swim, and Use Magic Device.
Traits: A dragon possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry).
Darkvision 60 feet and low-light vision.
Immunity to magic sleep effects and paralysis effects.
Proficient with its natural weapons only unless humanoid in form (or capable of assuming humanoid form), in which case proficient with all simple weapons and any weapons mentioned in its entry.
Proficient with no armor.
Dragons breathe, eat, and sleep.

Eltacolibre wrote: Strahd with the mythic vampire template should work well to make Dracula.
Interesting proposition but would say that in general at least in the case of the vampire hunter class, giving some vampire like abilities can easily represent the vampire bloodline for the Belmont. But of course, not all groups have access to that supplement, alternative in pathfinder: Vampirism Corruption (Horror Adventures book)
the affliction sounds good, still i would make a kind of gestalt with the vampire bloodline instead (fits more accurate to me)
Belmonts comes from any class, but always have that thing as a super humans... but it never felt like an affliction at all, it is in their blood (since they are the descendants of dracula [even without the lords of shadows lore you could note that]
as my research went (when i ran my CV setting)
|

For Dracula use Strahd Von Zarovich stats with appropiate modifications by age (according to CV era you were trying it) and some dip with mythic levels (just to make them suffer)
Also, Any Belmont should have the Vampire Bloodline from 3.5 UE.
And for Alucard you should use the Half-Vampire Template from 3.5 Libris Mortis.
Belmont with the Vampire Hunter Class (if you have the goodie)
and for Alucard a simple Inquisitor would make it fine.

an old house rule i used in the early days of 3.0:
you can have the dragon´s con score * size modifer (large *1, huge *2, gargantuan * 3, colossal * 4) in total lb in useable hide to make armors.
So, a colossal great wyrm (con 29), you´ll get 116 lb of useable hide (2 full plates and 1 leather armor or something else)

I love Pathfinder, and i wish that paizo expand the rules, i dont want more feats, i rather an escalating leveling to 30th lvl, balance on the rules, Prestige Classes more like mythic tiers instead of xp dependants, and paragon racial options.
its too easy to do such a thing, i did with my house rules and was only I working on it. why paizians can´t offer something alike?

Good to know there are some tough spots in City of Brass.
Of course, if I ever do run it, I'd heavily supplement with the City of Brass Boxed Set I bought all those years ago. there are no railroad aps, just shortminded gms.
my Carrion Crown campaign was a mix from Ravenloft Gran Conjunction, Carrion Crown (with add ons from legendary games and some scenarios and modules), they started a mini adventure housemade being guards at harrowstone and unleash the events for the first ap, we played Castle Ravenloft, azalin rex, house rules, house made secondary plots and characters self adventures, 1 of them becomes werewolf and 6 of them become vampires in the 5th module and just one remain human, they fight with the rival guide party, unfold anaphexia scheme, become Kendra a wizard/gunslinger, the bard act act in karkau opera to reveal one enemy, and they went wherever they want, they travel in trains, and flying ship, kill a black dragon in an epic flying encounter, they went mythic, and we played a secondary party as a villain Auren Vrood and company to face the party in the end of AP3 broken moon and more!! it was two years and half of gameplay.
so no, there are no railroad ap, just lazy gms or shortminded

Keep in mind that Pathfinder is also supposed to be backwards compatible, however.
And that this class is bad right now and would do better as a feat or trait rather than its current incarnation.
@Wierdo/Skylancer: I didn't say it was part of the basic premise or design intent, just that it was required to make this class actually worth taking levels in. Or that was my point. Guess it wasn't clear enough.
@Zwordsman: yeah, gestalt is pretty uncommon overall. Except for where I game (online and Spokane area), which is odd in a general strangeness way.
@Snowblind: bard/fighter is a great combo. I was trying to play one once but didn't get accepted into the game. Sad times ensued.
do not argue with rulelawyers... it is pointless... They event dont understand that PF IS a 3rd party product.
Also, in PF unchained are a secondary class option... perhaps that could work as gestalt.

3.5 epic handbook
3.5 gods and demigods.
Mythic Heroes handbook (http://paizo.com/products/btpy9dso?Mythic-Heros-Handbook)
mythic monster manual (http://paizo.com/products/btpy9dsp?Mythic-Monster-Manual)
mythic spell compendium http://paizo.com/products/btpy9dsq?Mythic-Spell-Compendium)
And for the mythic rules: DONT use mytchic monsters rules, instead put tiers as if they were characters, nor monsters. the rules for mythic monsters are so underpowered against the mythic players rules. so if yu realy want to challenge them, dont bore with that.

noble peasant wrote: First off, I hope this is the appropriate thread for such a topic, if not I apologize.
I was making small talk with someone at my local PFS group. Somehow, something made me bring up that I never liked nor have I understood why you had to be evil to take the assassin Prc. Just after I make this comment another player had overheard this tidbit of the conversation and somewhat irately retorted, "Because they KILL people!" with which I responded, "Everyone one does! Every pathfinder has killed people." While I'm sure this is a generalization I think it is fair to say most pathfinders have killed people. We then proceed on an adventure in which we slay pirates... Which are people.
Is this it? Is the fact that the class is designed to kill people why its evil? I'd say most classes provide the ability to kill.
Is it how they kill? Well ninjas can use poison too. Slayers and ninjas (not sure about rogues so I'm omitting them) can also perform death attacks. Sure the assassin later learn ways to help ensure they stay dead, but them being dead was the whole point in killing them in the first place right? In a world where bringing people back from the dead isn't uncommon, this ability would be most helpful for good and evil forces alike. You can't tell me the better aligned folk of the world would really like that super powerful evil cleric whom took a lot of effort by a lot of people to get rid of would be real happy if someone just waltzed up and went Boop! He's back.
So why the evil alignment restriction?
I will tell you the truth, son.
Good people doesn´t kill other people.
Good people doesn´t kill other people for work.
and most importan: all characters kill npcs characters, which means, all characters are evil.

I run once a Monster party for fun.
The monsters was tired form got their kind killed by the heroes... so they manage to go in party to confront them.
The party was this:
Treant Paladin
Dryad Rogue
Aranea Assassin
Ettin (one head as a barbarian, the other one as a sorcerer)
Ooze Barbarian
t´was fun, the aranea live in the treant branches, and the dryad has that same treant as a tree selected (i can´t remember where do i get that the dryads have to be attached to a tree, so treant is a tree in most ways so...)
Ettin Barbarian/sorcerer (we rol phisical stat first and mentals for each head)
Ooze can now move at higher speeds and when enter in rage, he now show some bubbles from inside itself.

Pathfinder vs D&D5th...
about 5th: Ilove the basic concept for the system, i mean (imho), with one twist they drop a lot of useless feats, or annoying feats ammounts (the game has almost a 3000 feats since PFRPG), in 5th there´s only 50 or so.
Skills: they do perfect, also with the attack bonus.
Spells: Im so tired to cast the same spell all the time... i dilike the spell casting system since AD&D ´till now (and mana, pool, magic points are so broken).
About PFRPG: 30+Classes ´till now which do the same as the basic 4 archetypes. Prestige classes, archetypes, feats, feats, traits, action points, mythic surge, sepells... and if you were thinking that with psionics there will be a refresh for the casting system... youre totally wrong, more spell slots as ever and the same feelling "casting the same spell ever again"
Both systems are very solid, and also, have a bunch of holes in their rules... If you mix both system replacing mechanics from one to another, probably you can create an alternate version with better perspective and so.

also, you can take the Slayer Advanced Class and change the sneak attack as a sign effect (maybe restrict the talents for kind of sign effect with the sneak attack damage).
I say no to inquisitor nor ranger class for the witcher:
The witcher do not cast and do not believe in religions, so no divine spellcasting. The mutagen and stracts from alchemist looks like similar but need a restricted and specific selection for the extract list to recreate the potions. And for the track and survival he will need the Monster lore ability.
The slayer offers a lot like a witcher with her studied foe (the witcher has no favored enemy, he is a monster slayer), and the signs can be created with few spells:
Aard
Magic Missile
Force
Quen
Mage Armor
Shield
Shock Shield
Stunning Barrier
Yrden
Explosive runes
Heliotrop
Haste
Igni
Burning hands
flaming sphere
Axii
Charm
Calm (animal, emotions)
The Witcher´s medallion need to be a magic item from the begining with:
Detect evil
Detect Magic
Discern lies
maybe updated or mixed with a pool... he can be created as a Slayer Archetype then :3

that´s why the Classes has diferent experience advancement in the old days from AD&D
there was 4 groups from where all the classes are attached
Rogue (Rogue, ninja, bard, assassin)
Priest (monk, cleric, druid)
Warrior (fighter, barbarian, paladin, ranger, samuray
Wizard (mage, illusionist, specialist and so)
rogue 1250
priest 1500
warrior 2000
wizard 2500
since 3e the game standar has broke the game itself since then. the new classes only make one thing clear: we need the race/class prerrequisites back. we need the class advanced xp tables back, the game needs to keep with basic system, no more complex and intricate new rules... Dude, how long do i take making a character with ARG, CRB, ACG, UC, UM, UC, ACG, MA.
guess you are planning a campaign where the chars start the game at lvl 1, they are new players. Which class? which traits? Feats?
Im a caster, Which Spell from were?
PFRPG has made clear something; it didn´t allow newbies and story teller gamers just mnchkinism everywhere.
Look the builds the people share: DPR based, Slkill Monkey and that´s all, or you make one of those or you are a bad gamer?
I have a friend who mades a build to kill the tarrasque with an 10th Alchemist and 100k gps. He almost make it happen, the tarrasque almost stroke with the Can´t Hit Issue

Msybe you MUST check Ravenloft 3.5 PH the Magic Rating rules for flavor.
Also i suggest Iron Heroes (a magicless campaign) which focuses on DR and Feats leveling up for more options.
For chemical potions, maybe you must play The Witcher PC game which brings a exotic potion creation (i create my own version, but its in Spanish if you want)...
And a friend of mine, create a system for crafting weapons without magic, based on what kind of monster you kill and what ingredient the monster has... then you go to the anvil and mix it with your weapon and the weapon reaches pluses.
(i.e.) Longsword with abolet´s guts
when you treat the abolet´s guts with alchemy, you got an ore dust, and you need to reforge your weapon.
Chemical abolet´s Longsword (mwk)
