I am gravitating toward a more quick premise and expanding on it as the game moves on. I generally do too much with my character backgrounds and don't always leave myself with room to "discover" my character along with the rest of my group. I can definitely do goals and backstories once we have an idea of the premise. I have some pretty loose ideas so far. I'll need some double-checking when we get characters created. I tried a PF1e gestalt game and creating the gestalt character was a process. PF2e is a little gentler with character creation, but it's been a minute since I've created a character haha.

I really love a good high fantasy. I like horror elements and political intrigue. I'm most interested in character development with my own character alongside the people I'm playing with. Character-driven plots are my favorite. You already covered my hard lines. I can't think of anything else, but if we veer close to something that might be too much for me, I will be sure to send you a PM. Extreme violence & sexual assault are my hard lines. I would like to play around with some big magic spells and stuff. I usually play more martial characters and think it would be fun to fool around with that.
That video was super helpful! I have some basic things drawn up while following the instructions on the video, but I didn't really understand the blood potency/surge/etc. stuff, and I haven't spent the xp yet. I didn't touch ambition/desire/touchstone/conviction because it seemed that those things were a little bit collaborative. ST, I went with Mateo Garcia as the sire. Happy to hear any suggestions for alterations, cool things to spend xp on... Working on fluff after I post this - my students are taking the state test today, so I am watching a bunch of teenagers take a test for two hours and have plenty of time. I like the idea of Mateo Garcia for the tension/drama that it could bring to the table with the relationship...on top of the vampire drama, there's also the pressure to perform well with the art, possibly even dealing with some party boy dictating her artwork and what it should look like/what standard it should be at. I'll draw something solid up today.
I, admittedly, have quite a busy week this week, so I am hoping to have bullet-point ideas about my character before the end of the weekend. Grades for 3rd quarter are due tonight and I have 55 essays to grade. >_> Why do I do this to myself? I'm trying to launch my 2e Kingmaker game (finally) this weekend as well, so it's busy in my house. :P
I agree with Captain Morgan and KingHotTrash. I have an investigator in my game, and all the investigator stuff does is add flavor. Delicious flavor. Not to mention the benefits listed above: they let players avoid the pitfalls of hanging onto a lead that doesn't work. I've had a lot of fun with it. Plus, I can use the abilities sometimes when I forget to do something as a DM and be like, oh... my investigator would definitely know that... It requires a chunk of creativity for things like That's Odd and the like, but again, I have a lot of fun with it as a GM. I haven't had any issues, nor do I foresee any. I think GM-dependent things mean that you need to communicate with your investigator PC and be willing to work out how some abilities will be interpreted and then apply that consistently across the board during that game. All characters deserve a chance to shine & really play their characters. Investigators included. KingHotTrash and Captain Morgan left a lot of good advice here. As a GM, I want my players to win and feel powerful. That doesn't mean they won't experience danger, run into struggles, etc.... but the point of an investigator is to investigate. You gotta let 'em.

Yes, you are correct - oops. Going scimitar instead. Okay, cool. I am looking at the Murder crime trait. She went after a famed dragonslayer's family and slaughtered his wife and children to draw him out. Given that the idea for her is what KHT/Araton had written: She is the child of the last green dragon before they were slain by Talingarde's heroes. Tentative name right now is Ophelia (I am an English teacher; I love Shakespeare).

Role: high damage tank, scouting + trapfinding. Will be uncomfortably quiet for how big she is. As for background, since I technically wasn't a prisoner at Branderscar with the rest of the party, do you want me to take one of those? Or do you want me to take one on the assumption that I was there and just escaped/released/whatever later? What kind of backgrounds should I be looking at? I'm looking at using the falchion as my main weapon, can I still use the claw and the bite as a secondary attack? I know that I can't use *both* claws because the falchion is in one hand.

I am Araton/KingHotTrash's friend. Popping in to say hello - I am waiting for my phone to charge before I can run a few errands today. Mom's furnace is out again and she had a pipe burst over the weekend with the weather here in the Midwest and I've been helping her out. I will be around in a few hours. :) And yes, that archetype would be cool, and I would love it--but I understand if you want me to check out something else. I have not yet put together an alias for the character, but I will throw that together this evening for you to check out. We were waiting until there was approval so I could roll stats before making final touches. Other than rolling stats + a reason to be recruited, what else would you like to see from me, DM?
Okay...I present for your consideration: Viseka Rottur, Rakshasa-spawn tiefling phoenix sorcerer/inspired blade swashbuckler. chance encounter campaign trait. tl;dr: nerdy woman gets to pitch playing the hot catgirl her teenaged self always dreamed of being. Thanks to DM CC and Javell for help with creating this gal. Constructive criticism very welcome. Backstory:
Viseka had a relatively normal Kenabrean childhood- Crusader parents who loved her, a luxurious home, never worrying about where her next meal would come from...the constant threat of demons, the city always in defense, learning warcraft and combat from an early age… She is an only child and carries the weight of that with her every day - slightly overprotective parents led to a mildly sheltered upbringing that Viseka wanted to break free from. And she tried, over and over - a troublemaker child, especially when strange, fiery powers began to manifest in her when she hit puberty. As a teenager, Viseka snuck behind enemy lines in the Worldwound, trying to prove to her parents that she could, indeed, do the things they accused her of being too young to do. She soon discovered that her parents were correct: she was not as capable as she thought. After a veritable comedy of errors, Viseka found herself at the mercy of a group of cultists in the Worldwound. Viseka was contemplating her options: give herself up and probably die, sneak out and probably die…most of the paths lead to “probably die,” and she just couldn’t come to terms with that. Luckily for her, someone else was in a similar position and came to her aid: a beautiful, sad woman whose name she never found out…or just couldn’t remember (Vis was never sure upon trying to remember the details). The woman taught her a slew of tricks to help them both escape from the cultists. The woman called on Desna for aid several times throughout the rescue, inspiring Viseka to later look into Desna as a patron goddess later on. The woman seemed to disappear when they had both escaped to safety, as Viseka was picked up by a patrol of crusaders who recognized her and took her back to town to face the wrath of her parents. Since then, Viseka has found herself just a tad luckier whenever she sneaks out. Viseka has never shared the details of this incident with anyone, especially since the patrol of crusaders treated her like a madwoman when she had tried to suggest they find the mysterious woman who…maybe hadn’t ever existed? Viseka, as dextrous as her cat-like ancestry suggests, always did well with combat that required just a touch more finesse than some of her peers. She excels with a rapier, especially, and she likes to think that she looks quite impressive as she dances along the battlefield. She is aristocratic and fastidious, placing a high value on first impressions and appearance. She carries the typical Rakshasa-spawn arrogance, falling into condescension when she perceives someone as “below” her in any way. Despite her aristocratic background, she is keenly aware of her heritage as a tiefling and the legacy of her crusader parents and does feel the urge to prove herself. Appearance:
Appearance inspiration.
Viseka Rottur looks a tad more human than feline, as do her parents, despite the heavy influence of Rakshasa-blood in their family line. Her face is slender and narrow, with high cheekbones and a wide mouth with cat-like fangs that protrude slightly over her bottom lip. Her yellow-orange eyes are very feline, a slit pupil being the most prominent feature. Her nose is short, slightly upturned, and cat-like as well. Her hair is long, thick, and wavy black, falling in soft, loose curls that stop just above her hips. Small, reddish-orange pointed cat ears protrude just a tad above the thick mass of her hair. She is covered in a velvety smooth layer of fur and sports a long, striped tail that ends in a black tuft. Her fur pattern is like that of a tiger: ruddy, reddish-orange with black stripes winding around her body in a predictable and familiar pattern (if one is familiar with tigers, that is). She moves with a feline grace and is rarely seen without a smile on her face, albeit mostly a condescending type of smile. crunch/stats: Viseka Rottur Rakshasa-spawn tiefling sorcerer (wildblooded) 1/swashbuckler (inspired blade) 1/gestalt 1 (Pathfinder Player Companion: Blood of Fiends 23, Pathfinder RPG Advanced Class Guide 56, 125, Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 264, Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Magic 70)

For what it's worth, I DO know Javell had talked about a paladin type when he and I were discussing trying out for this...but I don't want to speak for him. I'll poke at him tonight when we chat.

Sorry this took me so long to reply to. I am a teacher & I coach esports and we had our first matches this week (we lost, sadface). I have been communicating with DMCC via PM and one of the other people who talked about joining (Javell DeLeon, good friend of mine) about potential builds. Character creation was what was overwhelming me...and I am feeling a little better with some of the handholding from DMCC and Javell. :) Playing complex characters I can handle. Currently tossing around ideas for a A Rakshasa-Spawn Tiefling sorcerer/swashbuckler build - phoenix bloodline/inspired blade. Javell is tossing a celestial bloodline/inspired blade at me, too. :P I appreciate how helpful folks are. I am learning a lot! Also, I am EST.

Ohhh, bless you. Trickster sounds right up my alley, honestly.
Full disclosure: I don't know jack about gestalt and stuff, but I'm learning quickly :P Javell is a friend and poked me to look into this with him (and he's helping me). I'm floating a swashbuckling sorcerer concept because I like charming characters. If nothing else, this will be a fun excersize in playing around with character building. All the submitted characters so far look awesome.

So the "fluff" here, the backstory, might help make this easier. I'm thinking of someone who is interested in having her finger on the pulse - knowing as much as she can about everyone and everything to manipulate the situation to her favor however that might work. She's nosy and charming, but a little scary (in my mind). A social butterfly type. Ruffian rogue seems like a good fit for that! I was looking at an investigator as well, but it seems complex for a first character. As an aside, hello, fellow high school English teacher. :)
I'm interested - will work on something and try to have it by the end of the day/early tomorrow. I'm interested in being from Breachill (Local scion) & possibly a rogue. I like face stuff & it gets me out of my comfort zone of magic users. I'm new to PF2e as a player, but I just started running Fall of Plaguestone to learn the system & have been really enjoying it. I love pbp for the role play/challenge to my writing skills. edit: I see Matt's submission covered a lot of rogue things, but I am aiming for that skill/lock/trap build that DM mentioned being partial to for party composition. Hopefully, that doesn't step on toes? I've been *dying* to play Age of Ashes :)

You're not at all a bad writer, and you can take my word for it as an English teacher who has seen a lot of terrible writing from very earnest students. Grammar/spelling/etc. isn’t at all a problem. You’d get an A on the rubric for that, lol Knowing more about your intentions for her and your concept for her does clear up some of the confusion. She doesn’t need to be a girl next door character or someone easy to relate to. I'd agree with KingHotTrash wholeheartedly, especially trying to find a way to be more hands-on with that story. I like Karley.

HP Level 2: 1d8 ⇒ 2 Woooo 12 HP Willow gains 2 HP, Channel Divinity: Invoke Duplicity, and +1 1st level Spell Slot. Invoke Duplicity:
Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to create an illusory duplicate of yourself.
As an action, you create a perfect illusion of yourself that lasts for 1 minute, or until you lose your concentration (as if you were concentrating on a spell). The illusion appears in an unoccupied space that you can see within 30 feet of you. As a bonus action on your turn, you can move the illusion up to 30 feet to a space you can see, but it must remain within 120 feet of you. For the duration, you can cast spells as though you were in the illusion’s space, but you must use your own senses. Additionally, when both you and your illusion are within 5 feet of a creature that can see the illusion, you have advantage on attack rolls against that creature, given how distracting the illusion is to the target. :)
I'd love to throw my name in the ring. I will put something together shortly. I am pretty rusty with Pathfinder, so please don't hesitate to point out any mistakes if I get in, lol. Was looking into a Sea Witch or a Wizard of some sort. edit: I am happy to fill in gaps for melee damage, too, if needed! I'm down for anything. |
