![]() Hi James, In PF1, I know your preference for the appearance of Catfolk was that they were humanoid with some feline features, as shown in the first illustration in (I think) Bestiary 2. Since then they have often been depicted as anthropomorphic cats, and so far in PF2, all artwork I have seen sticks with the humanoid cat appearance. Is this the new standard for Catfolk moving forward in PF2? ![]()
![]() One of the reasons I play Pathfinder is because it was a continuation of D&D with a better rule set. Not sure yet what I'm going to do in terms of jumping on board PF2 or not, but changing "lore" and re-concepting monsters to move further away from D&D and its traditions would be a definite turn off for me. I don't like having elements I'm used to having in the game taken away with a new edition. And yes, I know I can bring back and use whatever I want in my homebrew, but please, please don't start changing all the flavor and ret-conning monsters. (like the aforementioned Ankheg...I don't get renaming it at all). ![]()
![]() Nope, nope, and double nope on Resonance. Doesn't fit my concept of the game I've been playing for over 30 years and I just don't like it! Others may love it, and that's cool, but for me...no go. Not a deal breaker, because I can easily house-rule it out, but I don't like it at all. If you want to limit spamming of wands...then limit the availability of wands, or limit how often per day they can be used. ![]()
![]() Please keep alignment as it is. Yes, it's a sacred cow, but so are classes and races (ancestries), and HP's and AC. So much of what I associate with the "game" includes alignment, especially when you start talking about Outer Planes, Outsiders, magical weapons, and certain spells. You remove alignment and you suddenly remove all of those other things. Not to mention the implication on Clerics and Paladins. I think there needs to be some strong continuity between editions of "the fantasy game", and Alignment is one of those things that should stay, despite other rules changes. And yes, when I say "the fantasy game", I'm thinking of Old D&D, 1st Ed AD&D, 2nd Ed AD&D, 3E, 3.5, and Pathfinder. ![]()
![]() I have to say, I REALLY like this book. Some of the negative comments had me concerned that this one might be a PDF only, but after a quick review of the PDF, I definitely want the book too. I can see getting a lot of use out of it. Lots of good stuff in here, and very good artwork throughout. I really like the Seasonal Witch (I think that's the name). ![]()
![]() I have to chime in and say I really like this book! I was a little skeptical at first since I run a game set in my own homebrew world, but I can find plenty of uses for just about everything in there, regardless of it being Golarian specific. I really like the appendices in the back with alternate "world neutral" names. That's a particularly nice touch! Good job once again Paizo! ![]()

The only issue/question I see with this is the Magus...which is supposedly a "hybrid" class. There's no restriction from taking Fighter or Wizard levels with that class. Unless the Magus is no longer considered a "hybrid". Which I'm fine with, there's just a lot of terminology being thrown around and the Magus is offered up as an example of what these other classes would be similar to in design philosophy. ![]()
![]() I've had similar thoughts with the Cavalier...the mount gets sidelined so often and can be problematic during dungeon crawls, which kind of takes away a big part of the cavalier's class features. My idea was doing an archetype that had some kind of family heirloom instead of the mount...something that would gradually grow more powerful as they leveled up, taking the place of the bonuses they get with the mount. It wouldn't necessarily have to only be with a weapon either, but could be a suit of armor maybe. As far as still being a mounted warrior, that wouldn't preclude them from still owning an ordinary mount and investing ranks in Ride and in taking the various mounted combat feats. ![]()
![]() I've had some homebrew races with flight before, and honestly it doesn't imbalance anything. A lot of action takes place in dungeons or indoors where flight really can't come into play, and like Quatar mentioned above, unless the PC invests in Hover, flying isn't always easy to mix with combat actions. Plus, when one character can fly and the rest can't...that single flier isn't real keen on going off on their own to scout or investigate. Too easy to get ambushed or attacked and not have any backup. With the assumption in my campaign that such flying beings are a little more common than otherwise, it also means that combat tactics reflect that, and most enemies are smart enough to carry ranged weapons, and if they expect to face off against a flier, you can bet they've got some weighted nets and know how to use cover to avoid ranged attacks or spells from that flier. ![]()

I have to agree with this. Their communications have been really screwy throughout this whole process. Am I frustrated by the "delays"? Sure. But I'm patient and I'm not going to crucify them for that, but they need to be updating via KS, not posting in random places. They've been hammered about their communication (or lack thereof) over and over again, and they keep making the same boo-boo. ![]()
![]() 1. How long have you been gaming: 27 years.

This. One of the beauties of a tabletop RPG. You can change/tweak those lists all you like. I like making specific lists for different casters based on their alignments/cultures/origins so that each caster has a few different options and so that different casters are distinct from one another when it comes to summoning. ![]()

Might be something they'll post here on the boards. I know James said he wanted to stat up a couple of CR 36 challenges and post them, so maybe some kind of advice for trying out solo play is forthcoming. Or...you might just tinker around on your own and see what a solo character can handle. I'd just estimate the CR of your solo PC and put together an encounter with a CR equal to the PC -2 or -3. And it might be something even they're not sure about yet until they get some play test reports in. ![]()
![]() Maybe I can shed some light on this phenomenon... I've got a buddy that loves every game system that comes out, and he wants to play all of them, but many of us, myself included, just don't have much interest in new systems...much less EVERY system that comes out or is already out there. It's not because we don't like to try new things, or don't want to game, or think Pathfinder is perfect, but it's a matter of just not wanting to learn a dozen and one different systems. I GM Pathfinder myself, and I'll play Savage Worlds, Star Wars Saga, Mutants and Masterminds, and even Burning Empires...but that's about my limit. Too many systems all start looking and feeling the same and frankly, I don't want to muddle my brain with so many different rule sets! Sure, I'll try a one-off game here and there of something new, but honestly I prefer to just stick with the few I already know and love. Part of that is also a matter of time...I'd rather spend it playing the games I know and love, when I actually have the time to game. ![]()
![]() I think Mikaze makes a good overall point...I'd like to see more heroic "good" options for players as well. It's cool to play the anti-hero, but I'd like to see more "good guys". I know pulp fantasy is filled with characters that are fairly self-serving, and often thieves, and that in the end they do the right thing...but I'd like to see some options and choices for folks that want to do good for good's sake, and have just as many tools and toys to play with as the bad guys and the anti-heroes. My players often want to play Neutral (of some persuasion) characters just so they can act like they want to occasionally, and so they can use some of those "morally questionable" tools and tactics sometimes, but I'd love to have some mechanical encouragement for them to go the "good" route. ![]()
![]() Definitely would like to see more Racial traits for races, similar to what the ARG has done! Particularly for the races that didn't get as much attention as the others! Maybe one bullet point product for a single race...that way you could do multiples! Or even menus of racial traits that could be used to build custom races with the RP values...particularly for monsters that are "common" but not covered in the ARG. Or...0 HD examples of races that weren't in the ARG but would be done like the sample races in the race building section. Like Minotaurs, Trolls, Bugbears... ![]()
![]() Megamini's has some minotaurs, but they're in the old 25mm scale, and actually seem a bit small, even for medium figures. The other option I know of, is to find some old MageKnight miniatures. They did a few different types of minotaurs, and they're medium size. One of the models in particular though was without weapons or armor, and in a pose as if charging...so it could be hard (but not impossible) to modify with some weapons. ![]()
![]() Preordering! Love his art, and was so glad to get a signed print in person this past Gencon! As for a pdf version, that's not something I would expect to see for an "art" book. Rights issues and such. Besides, most of his art can probably be found online with an image search, even if the quality/resolution isn't the best. ![]()
![]() I use a second wind mechanic, the way it was presented in the Star Wars Saga system, and allow a feat that gives a character 2 uses of it per day. I'm not much on the healing surge mechanic though...I think it goes too far. I did introduce non-magical healing in my games by way of medicines and healing poultices, but they can only be used once per day, and they don't heal a great deal of damage. More like a cure light wounds potion, but it does provide something a little extra. ![]()
![]() Interesting...I've never been much for MMO's, but free to play means I'll at least check it out...unless I have to spend a few hundred to upgrade my computer in order to do so! I'd much rather have seen a stand alone video game with multi-player options. Oh well, maybe in the future if the MMO is successful! ![]()
![]() Got mine in the mail yesterday! They are fantastic! The faces don't have much paint detail, but a wash would really do wonders for that. Otherwise the level of detail on them overall is fantastic. Great value for the price, and I like the quality of the plastic they're molded in. Much tougher than the DDM figures but not too rigid as to be brittle. I foresee buying many singles in my future. (Sorry, I don't buy blind random packs, but will buy on the secondary market) ![]()
![]() Just wanted to add to the kudos! I love these things too! I'd love to see more and would certainly snap them up! I think they'd be great for some of the critters that you can't get miniatures of. I generally use minis for everything, but sometimes you have to sub or change a creature because there's no mini available. In those cases I make my own "pawn", but I'd love to have oodles and oodles of these things to add to my normal mini supply! Sign in to create or edit a product review. |
