Not the Sawtooth Sabre, Bloody Sabre or any other wierd sabre variant. Just the sabre: There are a host of fencing type class options in 1E, but the only weapon they seem able to put their full ability use to is the Rapier. The sabre is a bog standard variant fencing weapon using many of the same techniques: it would be helpful for these classes to have this weapon as an option. Are there pathfinder stats for it anywhere?
D20, Skype. Legacy of Fire: 1 replacement player needed. 20 pts, Core races, No Evil, Summoners, Ninja, Samurai. GM will allocate traits. If you are interested PM me. Game is still in initial sessions so pcs still lvl 1. We are playing tonight if you can get it together that quickly. Setting is Katapesh in Golarion, so theme is Arab -esque/ Arabian Knights-ish.
Next monday we will be starting the 2nd session proper of this. One of the players has had to drop out for new job reasons, and so we are after a replacement player. Please let me know in good time if you're interested. All pcs are still Lvl 1 so you are still coming in at an early stage. We are using d20 roller and Skype, with a Campaign log/ page on Obsidian Portal.. Build rules: Players Characters are built on 20 pts. No Summoners (because they are a pain for GMs), Ninja or Samurai (simply not appropriate). No Evil alignments. Logical Regional Deities are Sarenrae, and to a lesser extent Nethys and Gozreh. Do not pick any traits: I will assign you a trait package if you decide to play. The game is set in Katapesh so races are restricted to Human or Half Elf generally. If you build your character as being an Outlander .I'll consider other core races (even Gunslingers, if Human). Please bear in mind that the setting is more 'Arabian knights' than 'Lord of the Rings' so I will be be more favourably inclined to characters which don't clash wildly with that. WE are starting at 5.30 pm EST (10.30 pm GMT). Current party are: Bard, Battle Oracle, Ranger Trapper, Palaldin: healing and hand to hand combat are therefore well covered. Some sort of arcane caster would be nice (Wiz, Sorc, Witch), but if you're interested at all just post here with a 2 line description of your preference. Thanks.
Availabilty on the Friday only of the two days given. Experienced RP er from way back. Been running/ playing virtual games for over two years now-originally on Gametable but now switched to d20 Roller. Favourite systems are Mongoose Traveller, Savage Worlds and Pathfinder. knowledge of Golarion patchy but quite good: GM ing JR and CC: I have LOF in Reserve to run at some point. So maybe a 7? Race: Half Elf/N /Ranger Trapper
A result of her River Trader mother and a wandering (and unknown) elf father, Ariel was raised among the river Traders of the River Kingdoms. Her aptitude for woodcraft lured her away from her family to pursue a varied career of scout, bounty hunter and general opportunist. Her wanderings have led her north into Brevoy, where she has become aware of the Adveturing Charters....
When its inappropriate I just say they haven't got it with them: I'm the GM- I can do that. They're not likely to have their plate on lounging around at home either. Roleplay vs. Roll Play. You don't go for a drink in the pub in full plate with a pack, nor do you take a pet dinosaur. If it situation sounds ludicrous then it probably is- so as GM rule on it. Mature and sensible players won't mind, and will probably agree along identical lines: off duty soldiers don't take assualt rifles out for a nights clubbing.
I am one of those players who often GMs but has never actually played Pathfinder.... I am GMT but I play a Traveller game with UK/US/Canada players so with careful timing it can work. The following tools are worth a look for online games (all free). I direct you to a game I used to play in (I still play in its sequel). Search for the game on Obsidian Portal (a brilliant campaign record site if you're not aware of it). Search for a game called 'Mustered Out on Regina' (it was a Traveller Game). Then click on the wiki page for that game and Nick, the GM, lists the free programmes and tools he used, and how to download them. It works for Pathfinder too-Gametable is a good free programme: just import jpegs of maps etc for battlemats, or build them from simple components, create POGs (counters) and off you go. It has a built in dice roller and a word chat function if you want it. We still play the game's sequel 'Mustered out on Mertactor' and my Pathfinder game 'Journey to the East' (ie Jade Regent) using the same tools. There are fancier programmes out there but these work fine. We use Skype as a voice supplement for gametable. On Obsidian Portal I am 'swampedbybunnies'.
I am GMT player also. For reasonable free tools can I direct you to a game I used to play in (I still play in its sequel). Well I am ok this week if you decide; would be helpful if you could list time/zone. We would need to swop skype contacts etc? Would I need to load any game table type programmes? I would need to email sheet too I guess. I've only just started using these boards so you'll have to forgive me any ignorance of the etiquette. No doubt you'll smile but I had to look up what 'bump' meant (I think it meant a'nudge' for me to respond?).
The general rule after book one is simply "reduce villain stats by half" (probably only by 1/3 in book 2). As the players don't know the stats anyway its hardly difficult. The players would probably want to play their characters onwards beyond CC, and if they re L15 -16 thats rather tricky. I know its just personal/ player preference but I just don't like the rapid progression in any of the AP s, and would always tend to tone it down beyond book 1 to allow a more extended character/ campaign life.
Like I said, you can use a katana with martial weapons. Various bits of jade regent suggest you can use A Wakizashi with shortsword. GMs are allowed to use logic for similar weapon types rather than rules definitions - as are players. It is simply unreasonable to suggest that someone who can use a broadsword or scimatar would be totally stumped if they picked up a Dao or Nine Rings Sword. Rules cannot be rigid, we're playing a game and trying to accomodate reasonable 'reality' (yes, I know), not stick to precedents in a courtroom. Can someone use a naginata somewhat like one of the many polearms they are already trained in? I would say so, though they might not know all its intricacies and 'special effects'.
Nope. Its just background thats why shes from Kalsgaard (Linnorm Kings: Jade quarter has lots of ethnic Tian). Basically just a two handed fighter with a weapon she has zero chance of getting a magical version of. Makes a change from sword and shield. A tetsubo is Blunt d10 2 handed with crit x 4. I know the Prof is dead I assume she recieves the news en route.
Are you using gametable or some similar gameboard programme as well as skype for visual representation also? My suggestion is Yukio Miyama, ethnically Tian but in fact brought up in the Jade Quarter of Kalsgaard. Her family produces specialist weapons, and so has sea transport links with Magnimar and various other coastal ports to the south. She has apprenticed on some of these craft (largely manned by native Ulfen of course)under one of her uncles, and on a port stop in Riddleport stumbled across an assault on Profesor Lorimorr, which she and her crewmates were able to break up. Taking the elderly scholar back to their lodgings for safety, he asked for passage to Magnimar (their next stop), and over the course of the next couple of weeks she got to know him quite well. His vast knowledge fired her imagination, so much so that she left ship at Magnimar and travelled with him as bodyguard for several months, into investigations he was conducting on ancient standing stones in the Varisian hinterlands. That was a couple of years ago, and via a series of misadventures she has eventually arrived in Ustalav, sending him a letter from Caliphas indicating that she would visit him in the coming months. How many players do you have now? I am uk based but with appropriate planning could do one late night session I guess. I am one of those players who has DM ed Pathfinder but never been a player... Two of my Pathfinder games are on Obsidian Portal- 'Shadows Over Ustalav' and 'Journey to the East' (this latter is online using Gametable). My name / profile on OP is swampedbybunnies.
Remember katana and wakizashi can be used with broadsword and shortsword proficiences. Wasp isn't that useful anyway unless a Monk really wants it. You can extend the above for eg naginata (polearms proficency), and most swords easily enough. Just don't allow the charaacter to use any special benefits of the weapon (eg katana can ony be used 2 handed with a 19-20 critical, etc).
I agree with Victor: I recently ran Part 1 ('Shadows Over Ustalav' on Obsidian Portal) amd the party were a Druid, a Bard, A Barbarian and a Ranger. I gave them a choice of Cleric or Witch as a support npc and they took the witch: very useful but not really an aggressive caster at 1st or 2nd level. The only change I made was to increase the number of available Haunt siphons from 5 to 8. Apart from the Marauder all the bad guy combats were challenging, but with a Cleric it would just have been "Pop. Bad guys (mostly)dead". Better without. The witch was primarily useful in generating potions and skills no-one else had. Everyone ended at second level (I ramped down the xp and will
The map scales in Darkmoon Vale and Inner Sea Primer seem to be wildly different eg distance from Olfdden to Falcons Hollow seems about 20 miles on darkmoon vale map, and about 100-150 miles on Primer Map- quite a difference. Similarly Darkmoon Forest is either about 25 miles east-west or 240 miles east west... Which is it meant to be? Int eh other area guides which of these two distance standards applies? |
